Xbox Game Pass cancellation-page loading trouble was reported after Microsoft’s October 2025 price and plan changes, but there is no verified cancellation count and the reports do not prove that cancellations caused the page problems. The price increase at the center of the backlash was real: US Game Pass Ultimate rose from $19.99 to $29.99 per month in 2025, according to contemporaneous reporting. That is a historical price, not a verified current US price.
Did the Game Pass membership site crash?
Several outlets and users reported loading errors or overload around the October 2025 announcement. Windows Central said its own attempt to load the cancellation page struggled, while TechRadar also described errors when its writer tried to cancel. Those accounts support saying that the page had reported loading trouble; they do not establish a measured, service-wide outage or prove that cancellations caused it. Neither report supplied verified cancellation totals. Windows Central’s account and TechRadar’s report describe contemporaneous experiences, not audited Microsoft cancellation statistics.
Windows Central relayed one user saying, “I’m not paying that much,” and another claiming the site was overloaded by people trying to downgrade or cancel. Those comments illustrate the reaction, but they are not a representative survey or evidence of how many subscribers left.
What changed in October 2025?
In the US, Game Pass Ultimate went from $19.99 to $29.99 per month in the 2025 change, a 50% increase at that time, according to Windows Central’s contemporary reporting. The expanded Ultimate offer included Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, among other plan changes. TechRadar also reported new US, UK, and Australian Ultimate prices and described cancellation-page errors during its attempt to cancel. These figures explain the 2025 backlash; they should not be read as today’s prices. The available reporting does not establish an official Microsoft explanation for the 2025 increase.

What Game Pass plans include now
The Xbox US plan page currently lists Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. Its features are not identical across regions, platforms, or plans. The table summarizes what the page displays; it does not include prices because that page rendered US prices as placeholders in the available retrieval. Check Xbox’s US Game Pass plan page for prices available to your account before changing plans.
| Plan | Library and new releases | Platform and extras | Cloud gaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games; no day-one releases | Features and availability vary by region and platform | 5 hours per month, beginning November 2026 |
| Premium | 200+ games; Xbox-published games join within one year | Features and availability vary by region and platform | 10 hours per month, beginning November 2026 |
| Ultimate | 500+ games; new games on day one | Includes EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics | 15 hours per month, beginning November 2026 |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ PC games; day-one releases | PC access and EA Play | Not included |
These library counts and feature descriptions are from Xbox’s current US plan page. They describe the offer displayed there, not a guarantee that every listed game is available everywhere. A downgrade can mean losing access to day-one releases, a larger catalog, particular platform access, or bundled services; which losses matter depends on what you play and use.

What changed after the 2025 backlash?
French-market prices were reduced in 2026
In an April 21, 2026 announcement for France, Xbox said Ultimate would fall from €26.99 to €20.99 per month and PC Game Pass from €14.99 to €12.99. Those are French-market prices and should not be applied to the US or other regions. Xbox said the changes responded to feedback; the announcement does not establish that the 2025 cancellation-page reports caused the later reductions. See the Xbox Wire announcement for France.
Cloud-play limits begin in November 2026
Xbox announced monthly cloud-play allowances of 5 hours for Essential, 10 for Premium, and 15 for Ultimate, beginning in November 2026; PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming. Xbox estimates that the limits will affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. That is Microsoft’s estimate, not an independently measured outcome. The company said it is introducing the model because cloud gaming costs grow as more people use the service and play for longer. The limits are a separate 2026 change, not part of the October 2025 price announcement. Details are in Xbox Wire’s September 3, 2026 announcement.

How to cancel or turn off recurring billing
Microsoft’s documented routes depend on where billing is managed. If a third party handles the subscription, Microsoft says to contact that provider about cancellation and refunds.
- Use your Microsoft account: Sign in and open Services & subscriptions. Find the eligible Game Pass plan and use the available change or cancellation option. Microsoft’s plan-change guidance explains how eligible plans can be changed.
- Use an Xbox console: Open Settings and go to Account > Subscriptions, then select the subscription and choose the recurring-billing or cancellation option shown for it. Microsoft’s recurring-billing guidance also describes using the Microsoft account dashboard.
- Check who bills you: If the account page does not manage the subscription, contact the provider that processes the charge. Microsoft’s guidance says third-party billing must be handled by that provider.
Microsoft says it communicates a changed subscription price at least 30 days before it takes effect. Review the notice and the renewal details shown in your account before deciding whether to keep, change, or cancel the plan.
