Pokémon GO Remote Trades let Forever Friends exchange eligible Pokémon without meeting in person. The feature became available globally on December 11, 2025 (PST), and it works through an in-game request and confirmation process—not through Pokémon HOME.
How to unlock a Remote Trade
Remote Trades require the new friendship level above Best Friends: Forever Friends. Reaching Forever Friends takes 180 friendship points with that person and grants one Remote Trade. After you complete it, you and that friend need to earn another 90 friendship points together to unlock another. Only one Remote Trade can be available with a particular Forever Friend at a time. How the Remote Trade process works

Tag Pokémon you are willing to trade with the Remote Trade tag.

Each player reviews the other player’s tagged Pokémon and selects up to three they would like to receive.

After seeing the other player’s requests, each player chooses one of those requested Pokémon to offer.

Both players review the proposed exchange and confirm it or cancel it. You do not have to complete each step at the same time.
The other player’s requests guide what you can offer: you choose one Pokémon from the options they selected, rather than proposing an unrelated Pokémon.

Deadlines, daily limit, and in-person trades
Each player can complete one Remote Trade per day. Every step has a 48-hour response window; if a player does not respond in time, the request may expire and the process may need to restart. A pending Remote Trade does not prevent you from making an in-person trade with that same friend.

Which Pokémon cannot be traded remotely?
Remote Trade eligibility is limited. The Help Center and launch announcement exclude:

Pokémon caught within the past 30 days
-
Pokémon that have already been traded
-
Shadow Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon

Pokémon currently defending a Gym or stationed at a location

These are feature-specific exclusions; check the in-game selection screen or current Help Center guidance if a Pokémon you want to offer is missing.

If you and a friend are Lucky Friends, your next completed trade can be a Lucky Trade even when you trade remotely. Remote Trades do not count as Special Trades. Those distinctions are confirmed in the official feature announcement and the Help Center.

Remote Trades are separate from Pokémon HOME
You do not need Pokémon HOME to unlock or complete a Pokémon GO Remote Trade. HOME has its own mobile trading methods—Wonder Box, GTS, Room Trade, and Friend Trade—and its Room Trade creation has a paid premium-plan requirement, according to Pokémon Support. That is a separate service and is not part of the Pokémon GO feature.
