Pokémon GO has 18 Vivillon patterns, and the in-game Vivillon Map is the most reliable way to check which pattern is associated with a postcard’s location. Find the map in the Pokédex or on the Vivillon Collector medal page, then pin eligible postcards to make progress toward a Scatterbug from that region.
Where to find the Vivillon Map in Pokémon GO
- Open your Pokédex and select Vivillon to view the Vivillon Map; you can also open the Vivillon Collector medal page.
- Use the map to check the habitat associated with a postcard’s origin. Niantic says the map shows where different Vivillon can be found, and its Help Center describes it as a worldwide habitat map. Niantic’s launch announcement · Niantic Help Center
Vivillon patterns are regional habitat labels, not a guarantee that every postcard from a broadly named country or area will count. Niantic says some locations are not Vivillon habitats. For a location near a boundary, check the in-game map and confirm that the relevant medal progress changes after pinning. The Pokémon Company describes Vivillon’s patterns as dependent on climate and topography, but that does not establish exact Pokémon GO country borders. The Pokémon Company’s Vivillon Pokédex entry

All 18 Vivillon patterns
Niantic’s Pokémon GO announcement lists these 18 patterns:

- Jungle
- Marine
- Meadow
- Modern
- Monsoon
- Ocean

Niantic notes that pattern habitats are affected by climate. Because the game’s map is the authority for postcard regions, use it rather than an unsourced static map when checking a specific place. Niantic’s pattern announcement

How postcards lead to Scatterbug and Vivillon
- Pin an eligible postcard. Its origin determines which regional sub-medal receives progress. Some locations are outside Vivillon habitats, so a postcard may not count.
- Complete that sub-medal’s current requirement. Niantic’s launch announcement says the first rank requires three postcards and that later ranks require more. Requirements beyond the first rank are not listed there; check the live medal screen for the current target.
- Encounter Scatterbug. Completing medal progress can trigger a Scatterbug encounter for that region.
- Evolve it to obtain the matching pattern. In Pokémon GO, Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa for 25 Scatterbug Candy; Spewpa evolves into Vivillon for 100 Scatterbug Candy. Niantic’s launch announcement · The Pokémon Company’s announcement, 16 December 2022
Pin postcards before opening or sending Gifts
Postcards have to be saved at the right time. For a Gift you receive, pin its postcard before opening the Gift; Niantic says it can no longer be saved once the Gift is opened. For a Gift in your own inventory, save its postcard before sending the Gift. Niantic’s Help Center also says postcards from Gifts you collected yourself can contribute to Scatterbug progress twice per day. Niantic Help Center: “What is the Postcard Book?”

Why a postcard may not add progress
- The location is not a Vivillon habitat. Not every place contributes. Check the in-game map and watch the matching medal after pinning.
- You opened the received Gift first. Its postcard cannot be saved after opening, so pin it beforehand.
- You sent your own Gift before saving its postcard. Save the postcard before sending.
- You have reached the daily limit for your own collected Gifts. Those postcards can count toward progress twice per day, according to Niantic’s Help Center.
- You are relying on a broad boundary map. Use the Vivillon Map in Pokémon GO, especially for locations near a regional edge.
