There are 28 Unown to find in Pokémon Legends: Arceus: one for each letter A–Z, plus ! and ?. They are spread across Jubilife Village and the five Hisui regions. Use the in-game Research Notes for clues, or follow the full landmark checklist below to catch them all.
How to unlock the Unown Research Notes
After you visit the Crimson Mirelands and return the missing slab to Solaceon Ruins, Laventon adds the Unown Research Notes to your Pokédex. Open the notes to read clues for the hidden forms. The clue text is also included below, so you can use it to narrow down a location before checking the exact landmark.

How to catch hidden Unown
World-placed Unown cannot be battled. Aim at one and throw a Poké Ball directly at it. The locations below are listed by region; each form appears once in this initial collection.
Jubilife Village: 3 Unown
- H: On the signboard of the Canala Avenue entrance gate, approached from Prelude Beach. Hint: “A VILLAGE GATEWAY.”
- W: On the left eye of the Magikarp statue atop Galaxy Hall. Reach the roof through the side door from Commander Kamado’s office. Hint: “THE LEFT EYE ATOP THE VILLAGE.”
- ?: On the back wall of the player’s quarters. Hint: “WHERE THINGS HANG TO DRY AT LIVING QUARTERS.”
Obsidian Fieldlands: 5 Unown
- E: On a tree on the small island in Grueling Grove. Hint: “A LONE TREE IN A POND IN THE GROVE.”
- G: At the top of Obsidian Falls. Hint: “ATOP A WATERFALL OF OBSIDIAN.”
- I: On the back side of the Lake Verity chamber. Hint: “THE LAKE ISLAND WHERE EMOTION RESIDES.”
- S: At Tidewater Dam, among the logs and sticks. Hint: “WHERE STICK AND LOG DAM THE RIVER.”
- X: On a branch of the tall Grandtree at Grandtree Arena. Use Sneasler or Braviary to reach it. Hint: “SCALE THE GRANDTREE.”
Crimson Mirelands: 5 Unown
- A: On top of a tent in Diamond Settlement. Hint: “WITHIN THE SETTLEMENT WHERE TIME RULES.”
- D: On a stump at the Miss Fortune Sisters’ campsite in Golden Lowlands. Hint: “AMONG THE STUMPS AND CAMPFIRE ASHES IN THE FIELDS OF GOLD.”
- K: On a rock stack in the southern Shrouded Ruins. Hint: “WHERE STONES PILE HIGH AMID FOGBOUND RUINS.”
- M: On a tree near Sludge Mound. Hint: “A TREE FELLED ON SLUDGE.”
- V: Hanging from a tree in the water at Scarlet Bog. Hint: “A WITHERED TREE IN THE SPRAWLING RED SWAMP.”
Cobalt Coastlands: 5 Unown
- B: On the volcano at Firespit Island, near Molten Arena. A Feather Ball can help with the high target. Hint: “TURN YOUR EYES UP AT THE VOLCANO ISLAND.”
- N: On the eastern horn-shaped pillar rising out of the sea near Sand’s Reach. You need Basculegion to reach the area. Hint: “TWO HORNS RISING FROM THE SEA.”
- Q: In a tree to the left of Turnback Cave’s entrance. Hint: “TWIN TREES AT THE SPRING BY THE SEA.”
- R: On the cliff at the end of Veilstone Cape, behind the gravestone. Hint: “BY THE GRAVE UPON THE CAPE.”
- Z: On the mast of the wrecked ship at Deadwood Haunt. Hint: “A TIMEWORN SHIP ON A SANDY SHORE.”
Coronet Highlands: 5 Unown
- C: On a pillar beside the statue in Celestica Ruins. Use Sneasler to climb the pillar. Hint: “LOOK TO THE RUINED PILLAR OF CELESTICA.”
- F: Atop the Ancient Quarry mountain. Climb to it or throw a Feather Ball from below. Hint: “A STONY OUTCROP OVER POOLS OF MUD ON A MIGHTY MOUNTAIN.”
- J: Inside Ancient Quarry. Hint: “A NOOK WITHIN A QUARRY.”
- L: Inside Wayward Cave near a dead end. Hint: “AN IMPASSE IN A CAVE ADORNED BY TWIN FALLS.”
- P: In the flowerbed at the southwest corner of Fabled Spring. Hint: “AMONG FLOWERS AT THE SPRING WHERE FAIRIES DWELL.”
Alabaster Icelands: 5 Unown
- O: Atop a pillar in Ice Column Chamber, in the underground caverns near Alpha Froslass. Hint: “THREE PILLARS IN A WORLD OF ICE.”
- T: On a pillar northwest of Avalugg’s Legacy. Braviary helps reach the top. Hint: “GAZE DOWN FROM ATOP THE GREATEST GLACIAL LEGACY.”
- U: On top of the unusual stone statue at Heart’s Crag. Hint: “THE UNUSUAL STONE STARING OUT ACROSS THE SNOWFIELDS.”
- Y: Halfway up Icebound Falls. Hint: “SCALE THE FROZEN FALLS.”
- !: On a dead tree northwest of Snowfall Hot Spring. Hint: “A DEAD TREE BY THE HOT SPRING.”
What happens after you find all 28?
Once all 28 forms have been caught, Unown begin spawning inside Solaceon Ruins. Those later spawns include Shiny and Alpha variants. The hidden Unown placed around Hisui are shiny-locked, so they are not the source for Shiny hunting.

Checking your progress
The full set is three Unown in Jubilife Village and five in each of the five field regions. If you are stuck at 27, check the easy-to-overlook forms: ? in the player’s quarters, ! near Snowfall Hot Spring, and N on the sea pillar near Sand’s Reach.
