Spoiler warning: This guide covers the story climax and postgame quests. You can catch both Dialga and Palkia in the main story: your choice of Adaman or Irida determines which appears first, not which one you can obtain. The second Legendary is caught in Origin Forme with the Origin Ball. After the credits, get the Adamant Crystal from Adaman to change Dialga’s form, and the Lustrous Globe from Irida to change Palkia’s.
Complete the lake trials to reach the climax
After restoring the five frenzied noble Pokémon and returning to Jubilife Village, speak with Commander Kamado. This begins the “Disaster Looming” mission and sends you to the three lake trials. Complete the tasks given by Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie; the lake spirits will give you the Red Chain. iMore’s walkthrough describes this as the route to the Mount Coronet climax.

Choose who accompanies you at Mount Coronet
During the lake-trial sequence, choose Adaman or Irida as your companion. That choice sets the encounter order:
- Choose Adaman: Dialga appears first.
- Choose Irida: Palkia appears first.
You will encounter both regardless of your choice. Catch the first Legendary in the standard battle. Dialga is weak to Fighting and Ground; Palkia is weak to Fairy and Dragon, according to iMore’s walkthrough.

Catch the second Legendary with the Origin Ball
After the first capture, the other Legendary appears in Origin Forme. Continue the mission to gather Origin Ore, then return with the crafted Origin Ball and the first Legendary in your party. The encounter is a boss-style sequence rather than a standard capture battle: dodge attacks and throw balms to stun the Pokémon, then send out a type-advantaged Pokémon when it is vulnerable. The story sequence ends with the Origin Ball capturing it, as iMore’s walkthrough explains.
This story capture does not permanently set the Pokémon to Origin Forme. You change each Pokémon’s form later with its own postgame item.

Get Dialga’s Origin Forme with the Adamant Crystal
After the credits, find Adaman at the Diamond Settlement in the Crimson Mirelands and defeat him. He gives you the Adamant Crystal. Use it on Dialga to change its form.
Get Palkia’s Origin Forme with the Lustrous Globe
Find Irida at the Pearl Settlement in the Alabaster Icelands and defeat her to receive the Lustrous Globe. Use it on Palkia to change its form. These are separate rewards: obtaining the Adamant Crystal does not also give you the Lustrous Globe, or vice versa. The locations and rewards are described in iMore’s walkthrough.

What changes when they take Origin Forme?
The official Pokémon descriptions identify Origin Forme Dialga as Steel/Dragon and Origin Forme Palkia as Water/Dragon. Their signature moves are Roar of Time and Spacial Rend, respectively.
