Your Pokémon GO progress is linked to your game account, not transferred directly from one phone to another. On the new phone, install the game and sign in with a login provider already linked to your existing account. Before switching, make sure you can access that provider’s account.
Before you switch phones
Check which sign-in methods are linked

On your old phone, open Pokémon GO and go to Settings > Account. Check which login providers are linked to your account. Niantic’s account-linking guidance explains how linked providers work.

Confirm you can sign in to the linked Google, Facebook, Apple, or Pokémon Trainer Central account. Pokémon GO uses the provider to authenticate you; it does not manage that provider’s password. If you cannot access it, use that provider’s recovery process or Niantic’s Account Recovery guidance before relying on the new phone.

If your account type permits it, consider linking a second sign-in provider as a backup. Child accounts cannot use multiple linked providers. Linking and unlinking can affect access across Niantic games, so do not unlink a provider casually.

If you use Sign in with Apple
Plan carefully if the new phone is an Android device. Niantic states that “Users who create an account using Sign in with Apple won’t be able to log in on an Android device.” The exception is when another provider, such as Google or Facebook, is also linked; you can use that provider on Android. Link the alternative while you can still access the account on your current device. See Niantic’s Sign in with Apple guidance.
Do not tap Sign in with Apple as if it were automatically the right way to enter your existing account. Niantic warns that using it before it is linked to that account can cause errors or create a separate account.

Sign in on the new phone

Install Pokémon GO from the official app store on the new phone. Check the phone against Niantic’s supported-device requirements: the published page lists iPhone 6s or later with iOS 15 or later, and Android 9 or later. It also lists strong internet connectivity, GPS/location services, and at least 2 GB of RAM. Niantic cautions that meeting these requirements does not guarantee support for every device model or configuration.

At sign-in, select the same provider that is linked to your existing Pokémon GO account and authenticate with that provider. The account should load with its existing progress; Niantic’s process is account sign-in, not a phone-to-phone game-data transfer.

If the game starts at level 1 or appears to begin a new game, stop before progressing. Sign out if needed, then check that you selected the correct linked provider and the correct account within that provider. A new-player screen does not by itself mean your original progress was deleted.
If you cannot log in
For “Unable to authenticate” or “Failed to log in,” Niantic lists temporary server issues and poor connectivity among possible causes. Start with the basic checks:

Check that the phone has a working internet connection.

Wait briefly in case the problem is temporary.

Close Pokémon GO completely, reopen it, and try again.

Niantic’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance includes additional steps for particular sign-in methods. For example, removing and re-adding a Google account is an Android/Google-specific option, not a universal first fix. If the issue is that you have lost access to the account or its linked provider, use the relevant provider’s recovery process or Niantic’s Account Recovery guidance.

Moving your game account does not automatically move a Bluetooth accessory pairing. On the new phone, open Pokémon GO’s Connected Devices and Services or Accessory Devices settings and pair your accessory again. Niantic’s accessory pairing instructions note that a Poké Ball Plus or original Pokémon GO Plus paired with another phone may need a factory reset. Pokémon GO Plus + does not require a reset in the situations covered by that guidance.
