To unlock Massive Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, finish the main story and view the end credits, then start the post-game Daybreak requests. These events place several outbreaks around one Hisui region during a storm, so you have a limited window to investigate their locations and catch Pokémon.
How to unlock Massive Mass Outbreaks
Massive Mass Outbreaks are post-credits content. The Pokémon Company describes Daybreak as an update that adds requests and other activities after the main story; Nintendo identifies the relevant free Version 1.1.0 update as released on 28 February 2022. You can continue encountering outbreaks after completing the requests. The Pokémon Company’s Daybreak page and Nintendo’s update notes explain the post-game timing and update context.

Once the credits have rolled, follow the Daybreak request line. A secondary walkthrough maps the investigation to Requests 95–102, from the initial anomaly through regional investigations and the Daybreak conclusion. Use that sequence as a route guide, but check your in-game request journal for your current request and its exact objective: the official update notes confirm the post-credits content but do not enumerate every step.
Request route at a glance
- Begin with the first anomaly investigation in the Daybreak request line.
- Continue through investigations in the Obsidian Fieldlands, Crimson Mirelands, Cobalt Coastlands, Coronet Highlands, and Alabaster Icelands.
- Complete the Daybreak conclusion request. The walkthrough identifies this sequence as Requests 95–102; follow the journal for the precise objectives and progress state. See the Nintendo Wire walkthrough.
How Massive Mass Outbreaks work
An ordinary Mass Outbreak centers on one outbreak. A Massive Mass Outbreak spreads multiple outbreak locations across an area at once. The Pokémon Company says the phenomenon is accompanied by storms and can offer Pokémon that are ordinarily difficult to find. Its description does not provide a complete list of species by region, so do not assume that every rare or evolved Pokémon appears in every area. The official Daybreak description outlines the event.
#1 Best Overall
- Action meets RPG in this new take on the Pokémon series
- Study Pokémon behaviors, sneak up on them, and toss a well-aimed Poké Ball to catch them
- Unleash moves in the speedy agile style or the powerful strong style in battles
- Travel to the Hisui region—the Sinnoh of old—and build the region’s first Pokédex
- Learn about the Mythical Pokémon Arceus, the key to this mysterious tale
During the event, investigate the outbreak markers shown on the map. The secondary walkthrough describes unknown outbreaks as question-mark markers whose Pokémon are revealed when you investigate them in the field. Treat the markers as leads rather than a guarantee of a particular species: check each location in-game to learn what is appearing there.
Mass Outbreaks compared with Massive Mass Outbreaks
| Aspect | Mass Outbreak | Massive Mass Outbreak |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | One outbreak location. | Several outbreak locations across an area. |
| Timing | Not described as the storm-limited regional event in the sources cited here. | Associated with a storm; Serebii reports that it ends when the storm ends. |
| Discovery | One focused outbreak to visit. | Multiple markers to investigate; the secondary walkthrough describes question marks that reveal the Pokémon in the field. |
| Role | Concentrated encounters with a species. | A post-credits investigation and a chance to find Pokémon that may ordinarily be difficult to encounter. |
How long an event lasts and how many Pokémon appear
The Pokémon Company confirms the storm association but does not publish event durations or spawn counts on its Daybreak page. Serebii, a specialist secondary reference, reports that Massive Mass Outbreaks occur during rainstorms or snowstorms and disappear when the storm ends. It lists event lengths of 7 minutes for 75% of events, 9 minutes for 15%, and 11 minutes for 10%; Serebii does not state the year for these figures. It also reports 8–10 Pokémon at an outbreak, with a possible second wave of 6–8. These are Serebii figures, not official statistics from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company. See Serebii’s Massive Mass Outbreak reference.
Rank #2
- This game comes in UK packaging, but it is region-free and compatible with all Nintendo Switch consoles worldwide.
Because the event is temporary, prioritize the locations you want to check rather than assuming you can visit every marker before it ends. The exact species available depend on the outbreak you encounter; the sources cited here do not establish an exhaustive species-by-region table.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Using outbreaks for Pokédex research
Outbreaks can help you encounter Pokémon, but catching one does not automatically complete its Pokédex entry. The official gameplay overview explains that research tasks build out entries and research progress; it also notes that Pokémon behavior, time of day, and weather can shape exploration and encounters. Use an outbreak as an opportunity to work on relevant tasks for the species you find, and check its Pokédex entry for what remains. The source does not establish a universal research bonus for outbreak catches. See the official gameplay overview.

Shiny odds and species availability
The sources cited here do not establish exact shiny odds or a precise Massive Mass Outbreak multiplier, so no numerical rate should be treated as confirmed on this evidence. They also do not provide a complete species-by-area or second-wave list. Confirm what appears at each marker in your game instead of relying on a blanket claim that a specific rare Pokémon can be found in every region.
