Pokémon Legends: Z-A is no longer up for preorder: it launched on October 16, 2025. If you’re deciding which version to buy now, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the enhanced version; the original Switch game also runs on Switch 2, but without those enhancements. Nintendo’s US listings show regular prices of $59.99 for the Switch edition and $69.99 for the Switch 2 Edition.
Preorders are over; the game is available after its 2025 launch
Nintendo announced on May 29, 2025 that Pokémon Legends: Z-A would launch on October 16, 2025. Digital preorders were scheduled to begin June 5, 2025, and physical preorders July 23, 2025, so those original preorder dates have passed. Nintendo’s announcement is the source for the launch and preorder schedule.

The Pokémon Center also announced a gift-with-purchase preorder promotion at the time. That was a historical offer; its announcement does not establish that the bonus is still available. The Pokémon Center promotion should not be treated as a current bonus.
Which edition should you buy?
Nintendo of America currently lists these regular US prices. They are Nintendo’s listed prices, not a survey of retailers; retailer stock and sale prices can differ.

What changes on Switch 2?
The Switch 2 Edition is the version with enhanced graphics and performance, including smoother frame rates. Nintendo says the original Switch software remains playable on Switch 2, but it does not receive those Switch 2 Edition enhancements. For the full enhanced experience on Switch 2, choose that edition or upgrade an existing Switch copy.

Can you upgrade the Switch version?
Yes. Nintendo offers a separate Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack for owners of the Nintendo Switch game. The US listing prices it at $9.99; it is an add-on, not a standalone copy of the game, so you must still own Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Nintendo’s support page describes the upgrade and DLC requirements.
- Buy or own Pokémon Legends: Z-A for Nintendo Switch.
- Purchase the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack separately.
- Keep access to the base game: the Upgrade Pack does not replace it.
What to know about Mega Dimension
Mega Dimension is downloadable content compatible with both editions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but Nintendo says it requires a copy of the base game. For buyers who want the game and DLC together, The Pokémon Company announced a Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension package for October 29, 2026. It is described as including both on one game card; its price was not stated in the reviewed announcement.
