Shiny-hunting guides and creator testing report the change; Nintendo’s published update notes do not name spawn overload or say that shiny hunting was removed. The reported patch affects the overload method—not shiny hunting as a whole.
What changed in version 2.0.0?
Before the update, the spawn-overload route was used to produce extra Pokémon spawns for hunting, including Alpha Pokémon in Wild Zone 20. Game8 describes the old setup as increasing the normal two Alpha spawns to six. Guides and creator testing report that this overload exploit was patched in 2.0.0.
The attribution matters: Nintendo’s North American update history lists the 2.0.0 release but does not mention spawn overload. The claim that the exploit was patched comes from community and guide reporting, not an explicit Nintendo patch-note statement. Papa Jefé’s creator guide identifies version 1.0.3 as the last version on which the method worked.
Which versions are affected?
| Version | Nintendo’s listed release date | What that means for overload guides |
|---|---|---|
| Before 2.0.0 | Not stated for the last working version in the cited creator report | Papa Jefé identifies 1.0.3 as the last working version for the exploit; Game8 describes the pre-update route. |
| 2.0.0 | December 9, 2025 | Guides and creator testing report the overload exploit patched with this update. |
| 2.0.1 | January 21, 2026 | Nintendo’s notes list item adjustments and bug fixes, including a Shiny Pokémon registration issue in the Mega Evolution Pokédex; they do not document spawn overload. |
| 2.0.2 | March 18, 2026 | Nintendo says “Several issues have been fixed” without describing a shiny-hunting mechanic change. This is the newest version listed on Nintendo’s North American update-history page as of October 8, 2026. |
Nintendo’s Pokémon Legends: Z-A update history also explains how to check the software version: highlight the game on the HOME Menu and press + or − to see its version information.

What to do if you are shiny hunting
If you have not updated
Older overload tutorials should be treated as version-specific, not as instructions guaranteed to work on a current installation. The cited creator report gives 1.0.3 as the last working version, while Game8 describes the older Wild Zone 20 setup.
If you are on 2.0.0 or later
Look for a current guide to ordinary spawn-reset hunting or a route for your target Pokémon rather than relying on the overload setup. Community guides distinguish those methods from spawn overload, but the available evidence does not establish the success rate or current effectiveness of every individual route. No shiny-rate or time-per-shiny comparison is established here.

- On the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, highlight Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

- Compare that version with the one named in the guide. Treat a pre-2.0.0 overload tutorial as outdated for 2.0.0 and later.
How Mega Dimension fits in
Version 2.0.0 launched on December 9, 2025, and made Mega Dimension’s additional story content available to purchasers of the separately sold DLC, according to The Pokémon Company’s announcement. That release timing is useful context for identifying the update, but it does not establish any DLC-specific shiny odds or a more efficient hunting method.

Nintendo’s public notes establish the update chronology and describe other fixes. They do not specifically confirm that spawn overload was removed. The most precise conclusion is that community guides and creator testing report the exploit patched starting in 2.0.0, while ordinary shiny-hunting methods are covered separately. Future updates could change those methods, so match any route to the version you are actually playing.
