Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s paid Mega Dimension expansion is available now. Its story takes players into Hyperspace Lumiose with Ansha and Hoopa, but you must finish the base game’s main story before progressing through it. A physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle is scheduled for October 29, 2026.
What happened to the DLC’s release date?
The Pokémon Company announced the Mega Dimension expansion on September 12, 2025, before Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched on October 16. Its first announcement said the additional story would arrive “soon after” the game went on sale. The Pokémon Company’s November 10 press page and official trailer page give December 10, 2025, as the story’s release date, while Nintendo Support records the content as available with version 2.0.0 on December 9. The sources differ by one day, so the dates are best reported with their sources rather than treated as a single uncontested launch date. The Pokémon Company’s announcement, Nintendo’s US news page, Nintendo Support, and the official Pokémon trailer page provide those respective details.

What does Mega Dimension add?
The expansion continues the player’s story with Team MZ after the main story. Spatial distortions appear around Lumiose City and connect to Hyperspace Lumiose, a distorted counterpart that the player explores with Ansha and Hoopa. It features Pokémon not found in regular Lumiose, powerful encounters, and new Mega-Evolved Pokémon. The official DLC page describes the expansion and its setting.
Hyperspace levels and donuts
Hyperspace levels can raise a Pokémon’s total level above the game’s ordinary level-100 limit, according to the official description. Special donuts provide different effects while exploring Hyperspace Lumiose. The publisher’s pages describe these as game features, not as a change to the normal level cap outside hyperspace. Nintendo’s feature overview and the official trailer page describe them.

#1 Best Overall
- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Raichu and Garchomp content
Nintendo Support says the additional story includes Mega Stones for Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. Separately, a Mystery Gift available starting February 27, 2026, can reveal a special distortion where DLC owners can encounter Mega Garchomp Z; defeating it yields Garchompite Z. The Mystery Gift itself does not require DLC, but detecting the special distortion does. Nintendo Support and The Pokémon Company’s event announcement explain the distinction.
Other included items
Nintendo Support lists Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items as available from October 16, 2025. These are separate from the postgame story’s main Hyperspace Lumiose adventure. Nintendo Support’s DLC details gives the item availability date.

What do you need to play it?
- Finish the main story: Progressing the Mega Dimension story requires completing Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s main story first.
- Own the full game: The DLC is an add-on, not a standalone game, and requires a full copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
- Use either supported edition: Nintendo says the DLC works with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
These requirements are listed by Nintendo Support; the story prerequisite is also described on the official DLC page.
