For a Scarlet and Violet story team, the best Electric-type Pokémon is the one whose stats, typing, ability and battle role fit your needs—not simply the one with the biggest Attack stat. This ranking is an editorial guide to story-playthrough usefulness, with competitive and raid performance kept separate because their rules and priorities differ. Electric attacks are especially useful against Water and Flying Pokémon; Ground matchups are the main danger to plan around.
How this ranking works
The order weighs a Pokémon’s stat spread, Electric-type matchups, secondary typing, ability and likely role on a playthrough team. It is not an official ranking, and it does not assume a particular catch route, version-exclusive availability, moveset or competitive ruleset. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet take place in open-world Paldea and introduce Terastallization and Tera Raids, but those mechanics do not make one universal ranking fit every mode.

The roster and base-stat references below are from Serebii.net’s Scarlet and Violet Electric-type listing. Type relationships follow the Pokémon Database type chart. Base stats are listed in HP / Attack / Defense / Special Attack / Special Defense / Speed order; they are reference points, not in-battle stats.
The 20 best Electric-type Pokémon for a Scarlet and Violet playthrough
1. Miraidon
Miraidon is the strongest all-round pick in this editorial ranking: its Electric/Dragon typing, 135 base Special Attack and 135 base Speed make it a powerful special attacker that can act quickly. Its full base spread is 100 / 85 / 100 / 135 / 115 / 135, and its ability is Hadron Engine. The trade-off is availability and role: it is Violet’s version-linked Legendary ride partner, so it is not a general early-team recommendation.

2. Iron Hands
Iron Hands is the contrasting powerhouse: a physically oriented, unusually bulky attacker with 154 HP and 140 Attack. Its full spread is 154 / 140 / 108 / 50 / 68 / 50, and it has Quark Drive. Its low Speed and Special Attack make its role less flexible than Miraidon’s, but the HP and Attack combination is compelling when a team wants a durable physical hitter.
3. Kilowattrel
Kilowattrel pairs Electric with Flying, giving it a useful offensive role and an important defensive exception to the usual Electric-versus-Ground problem: Flying typing makes it immune to Ground attacks. It has 125 base Speed and 105 Special Attack (full spread: 70 / 70 / 60 / 105 / 60 / 125). Its listed abilities are Wind Power, Volt Absorb and Competitive. Its low defensive stats mean it is better suited to striking quickly than absorbing hits.
4. Sandy Shocks
Sandy Shocks combines Electric and Ground, giving it a distinct coverage profile and removing the usual Ground-type weakness of a pure Electric Pokémon. It has 121 base Special Attack and 101 Speed, with a full spread of 85 / 81 / 97 / 121 / 85 / 101; its ability is Protosynthesis. That blend makes it a strong special attacker with more physical durability than a frail speed specialist.
5. Iron Thorns
Iron Thorns offers Electric/Rock typing and a physical-attacker stat spread: 134 Attack, 110 Defense and 100 HP. Its full spread is 100 / 134 / 110 / 70 / 84 / 72, and its ability is Quark Drive. It is slower than the leading speed-focused choices, and its mixed offensive profile is less focused than Iron Hands’, but the Rock secondary type gives it a different role on a team.

Pawmot is a flexible Electric/Fighting option for players who want a physical attacker rather than another special-focused Electric type. Fighting adds a second offensive angle, though it does not remove Electric’s Ground matchup concern. Consider it when the team needs a different type combination and a more direct physical role.
7. Bellibolt
Bellibolt is a bulky Electric choice rather than a speedster. It suits a team that prefers a Pokémon able to withstand pressure while using Electric attacks, although a Ground opponent remains a major type concern. Its role is more about staying power than outpacing threats.
8. Toxtricity
Toxtricity’s Electric/Poison combination gives it a distinct niche among Electric choices. It is a special-oriented attacker that can add Poison typing to the team’s offensive options. The secondary type changes its matchups, so evaluate the whole combination rather than treating it as a simple Electric substitute.
9. Rotom-Wash
Rotom-Wash is a useful Electric/Water combination for teams that value a secondary type alongside Electric attacks. Its Water typing can help diversify coverage, but it does not erase all matchup risks; consider opponents’ types rather than relying on the Electric label alone.

- Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
- Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
- Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
- Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.
10. Magnezone
Magnezone is a sturdy Electric/Steel option. Steel gives it a defensive profile unlike that of a pure Electric Pokémon, while its slower pace makes it a better fit for teams that value resilience over speed. Ground remains a critical matchup to account for.
11. Jolteon
Jolteon’s defining role is speed: it is a straightforward Electric option for players who want to move quickly and apply pressure. Its narrow typing makes Ground matchups especially important to plan around, and its value depends on having other team members cover that gap.
12. Ampharos
Ampharos is a slower, special-attacking Electric choice for a team that does not need every attacker to be fast. It gives players a different pace from Kilowattrel or Jolteon, but its single Electric typing leaves the familiar Ground weakness in place.
13. Luxray
Luxray is a physical Electric attacker, useful when the rest of the team leans toward special damage. Its role is easy to understand, but it does not solve the Ground matchup or offer the speed profile of the fastest Electric choices.
14. Eelektross
Eelektross stands out for its Electric-only typing and Levitate ability, which can remove the usual Ground-attack weakness while the ability is active. That exception makes it valuable to consider when Ground coverage is a concern, though its role still depends on the rest of the team and battle context.
15. Raichu
Raichu is a nimble, uncomplicated Electric option. Its value is accessibility to a familiar fast-attacker role rather than a secondary type that transforms its matchups. Keep a plan for Ground opponents and use teammates to cover them.
16. Electrode
Electrode is another speed-first Electric option. It can fit a team that wants a quick attacker, but speed alone does not make it the best choice if the team needs bulk, broader typing or a different damage role.
17. Luxray’s pre-evolution, Shinx
Shinx can be considered for the early part of a team’s progression if it is available in the player’s game, but this ranking does not establish its location or availability. Its principal appeal is developing into Luxray’s physical Electric role rather than an unusual matchup profile.

Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
18. Pawmi
Pawmi gives players an early-stage Electric/Fighting option to consider where available. As with any unevolved Pokémon, its usefulness changes as the team progresses; judge it as a team-building path, not as a claim that it remains among the strongest choices throughout the game.
19. Tadbulb
Tadbulb is the unevolved route toward Bellibolt’s bulky Electric role. It can be a progression choice for players who want that eventual archetype, but its value as a current team member depends on stage and availability.
20. Wattrel
Wattrel is the developing form of Kilowattrel and offers the same Electric/Flying direction as a team-building path. Its appeal is the eventual combination of Electric offense and Flying’s Ground immunity; the ranking does not assert a specific encounter location or timing.

Use Electric attacks where they matter
Electric attacks are super effective against Water and Flying, but are resisted by Electric, Grass and Dragon and do not affect Ground Pokémon. Electric Pokémon themselves are weak to Ground attacks, while Electric, Flying and Steel attacks are resisted by Electric Pokémon, according to the type chart. A strong Electric attacker can still struggle if it lacks a way to handle Ground opponents.

Electric plus another type can improve coverage, introduce new weaknesses or create a defensive exception. Kilowattrel’s Flying typing, for example, makes it immune to Ground attacks; Sandy Shocks’ Ground typing changes its profile in another way. Look at the complete type combination and ability, not just the Electric label.
Stats are role indicators, not a verdict
Miraidon’s base 135 Special Attack and Speed point to a fast special attacker; Iron Hands’ 154 HP and 140 Attack point to a bulky physical attacker; Kilowattrel’s 125 Speed and 105 Special Attack point to a quick special role. These are different jobs, not a direct measure of which Pokémon will perform best in every fight.
Does the ranking change for raids or competitive battles?
Raids
Raid usefulness depends on the raid opponent, its Tera type, team composition and the rules in effect. A story-team ranking cannot establish the best raid build or moveset. Choose around the actual raid matchup rather than assuming the highest-ranked Pokémon here is always the right pick.
Competitive play
Competitive rankings require a named format and current rules. A Scarlet and Violet ranking made for VGC, for example, is not interchangeable with a general playthrough guide; a historical 2023 VGC video is not evidence of present-day usage or tier status. This list therefore does not claim current competitive placement.
