In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the six stat-raising Mochi and Fresh-Start Mochi are rewards from Ogre Oustin’, a Kitakami minigame included in The Teal Mask. The six stat Mochi each raise one matching EV; Fresh-Start Mochi resets a Pokémon’s EVs. You unlock repeat play after the Festival of Masks challenge at Kitakami Hall.
What does each Mochi do?
Nintendo says Mochi from Ogre Oustin’ can increase a Pokémon’s stat base points, and Fresh-Start Mochi can reset them. Nintendo Life’s September 2023 guide specifies the following EV effects:

Nintendo Life reports that a stat’s effective EV cap is 252. Reaching it with Mochi alone takes 25 matching Mochi and two corresponding Feathers: 25 Mochi provide 250 EVs, and the two Feathers supply the remaining 2.
How to unlock and play Ogre Oustin’
Unlock repeat play
Ogre Oustin’ is introduced during The Teal Mask. Nintendo Life reports that repeat play becomes available after you complete the Festival of Masks story challenge at Kitakami Hall. Carmine challenges you to beat her score before your first match.

Complete a round
- Ride Miraidon or Koraidon and pop the colored balloons to collect berries.
- Carry the berries to the tables marked with the matching colors and deposit them.
- Watch for Pokémon trying to eat deposited berries. Use the roar action to scare them away temporarily.
Nintendo Life lists three difficulty settings: Easy has 3 rounds, Medium has 6, and Hard has 10. Its guide recommends carrying up to 30 berries per trip. In co-op, players can each focus on one berry color; when playing solo, avoid depositing too many berries early, since the growing pile can attract more Pokémon. These are tips from the 2023 guide, not a guarantee of the best approach after every game update.
Can you play Ogre Oustin’ with friends?
Nintendo says up to four players can play together online or through local wireless. Nintendo Life reports that the game does not provide automatic matchmaking; groups connect using a shared link code. Coordinate berry colors before starting so players can divide the work.

- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
What rewards can you get?
Nintendo Life’s September 2023 guide lists these first-clear rewards:

That guide also lists Feathers, Tera Shards, and evolution items among other recurring rewards. The Pokémon Company International announced that Version 3.0.0 adjusted Ogre Oustin’ difficulty on December 14, 2023; that announcement documents a past change, not the minigame’s current balance or patch state.

What DLC do you need?
Ogre Oustin’ is part of The Teal Mask, the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. You need the full Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game to use its DLC, and the expansion must match your game: Scarlet DLC is for Scarlet, and Violet DLC is for Violet. Nintendo’s product page cautions buyers to choose the matching version.
Is Binding Mochi the same item?
No. The stat-training Mochi discussed here come from Ogre Oustin’. Binding Mochi is part of the separate Mochi Mayhem epilogue story featuring Pecharunt, not a method of earning EV Mochi. Nintendo says reaching that epilogue requires a postgame event, completion of both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk stories, claiming the Mythical Pecha Berry Mystery Gift, and going to Peachy’s in Mossui Town.
