In both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, look for Ditto in the tall grass on the land across Lake of Outrage. You’ll need the Rotom Bike’s water-travel upgrade to reach it. Serebii lists the overworld encounter at 10% and Ditto’s level range as 55–58; those are encounter-table values, not a promise of a Ditto within a set number of encounters.
Where to find Ditto
Ditto appears as an overworld encounter in the grass on the far side of Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area. The location table lists it for both game versions at levels 55–58, with a 10% encounter rate across its listed weather entries. See Serebii’s Ditto location table.
How to reach the Lake of Outrage grass
-
Progress through the game until your Rotom Bike can travel over water.
-
Go to Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area, southeast of Hammerlocke.

Why catch Ditto?

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have Nurseries on Route 5 and in Bridge Field in the Wild Area. The Pokémon Company International explains the compatibility rule in its breeding guide.
