To get Shedinja in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, level up Nincada to level 20 while you have at least one empty party slot and at least one Poké Ball in your Bag. Nincada evolves into Ninjask, and Shedinja appears in the open slot. The Poké Ball must be in your inventory; Nincada does not need to hold it.
Steps to get Shedinja
-
Put Nincada in your party.
-
Make sure it can reach level 20 and evolve. Pokémon Database lists level 20 as Nincada’s evolution level: Nincada Pokédex.
-
Before the evolution, leave at least one slot in your party empty.
-
Make sure your Bag contains at least one Poké Ball. It does not need to be held by Nincada.

If Shedinja does not appear
Check the two conditions at the moment Nincada evolves: there must be an empty party slot and a Poké Ball in your Bag. Giving Nincada a Poké Ball to hold is not a substitute for having one in your inventory.
Does the method work in both Sword and Shield?
The evolution-based method is described for Nincada and Shedinja without a version distinction. Serebii’s Sword and Shield Shedinja listing also reports Max Raid Battle locations in Bridge Field, Rolling Fields, and South Lake Miloch for both games. Those locations are an alternative reported by a secondary reference; they are not needed for the Nincada evolution method.

Transferring Nincada into Sword or Shield
Pokémon Support says that a Nincada caught in Sword or Shield can only be deposited into Sword or Shield. Its Nincada transfer guidance, dated January 30, 2026, also says Nincada from Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl, and from Pokémon Bank or Pokémon GO, can only be deposited into Sword or Shield. This deposit restriction is separate from the steps needed to obtain Shedinja.
