You can also check which evolution item the Pokémon accepts—Cracked Pot for Phony Form, Chipped Pot for Antique Form.
Inspect Sinistea’s cup in the Pokédex
- Catch the Sinistea you want to identify; the inspection is done after it has been caught.
- Open its Pokédex entry and choose Motion/Cry.
- Rotate the model until you can see the underside of the cup, then look closely at the inside of the bottom rim.
- A faint blue mark means Antique Form. If the mark is absent, it is Phony Form.
The mark is small and easy to miss, so rotate the model slowly and inspect the bottom from different angles.
Use an evolution pot as a cross-check
In your Bag, highlight a Cracked Pot and check whether it is compatible with that Sinistea. Compatibility indicates Phony Form; an Antique Sinistea instead uses a Chipped Pot. This also tells you which item to use when you are ready to evolve it into Polteageist.

Getting the right pot
Use a Cracked Pot on Phony Form or a Chipped Pot on Antique Form. The cited guide says the Stow-on-Side trader sells Chipped Pots rarely, so check the trader’s stock on successive days if you need one. Item availability can vary with the game’s in-game stock; confirm the item name and compatibility in your own Bag.

Is Antique Sinistea rarer?
Its exact rarity is not established. Reports cited by iMore range from one in ten to one in one hundred, but the guide describes the true rate as uncertain. Those estimates should not be treated as a confirmed encounter rate.
