Game Freak confirmed that hackers accessed its servers in August 2024 and that employee information was leaked. In October 2025, separate reports described alleged Pokémon Legends: Z-A development files resurfacing, including material said to point to features missing from the released game and plans for other Pokémon games. Those later claims have not been authenticated by Game Freak or Nintendo, and they are not official announcements.

What the Teraleak story actually establishes

There are two distinct parts to the story: a confirmed security breach and later reporting about alleged game-development files. The confirmation of the breach does not, by itself, verify the origin or authenticity of every game file subsequently circulated online.

Game Freak confirmed a 2024 server breach

In a notice dated October 10, 2024, Game Freak said a third party had accessed its server in August and that personal information belonging to employees and related people had leaked. The company reported 2,606 affected records, said it was contacting affected people, and stated that it had rebuilt and reinspected its servers. The figure concerns personal-data records, not the number or size of leaked game files. Read Game Freak’s notice.

October 2025 reports described alleged Z-A files

Nintendo Life reported in October 2025 that purported Pokémon Legends: Z-A source code, beta builds, and related documentation had resurfaced. Its report said the material appeared to show elements absent from the final game. That is secondary reporting about alleged development material—not an official Game Freak account of cut content or a verified, exhaustive feature list. Read Nintendo Life’s report.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Standard - Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
  • As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.

GamesRadar separately reported that more than 70GB of information had reportedly been shared, while noting uncertainty about how much concerned the final version. That figure is a reported archive size, not a number disclosed or verified by Game Freak. Read GamesRadar’s coverage.

Which Pokémon Legends: Z-A features were cut?

The available reporting supports a cautious answer: alleged prototype material appears to include elements that are not in the released game, but the sources reviewed do not establish a complete list, confirm every file’s authenticity, or explain why any particular feature was changed or removed. Treat claims about individual features as claims about what a reported build appears to show, not as confirmed development history.

  • Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
  • Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
  • Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon

  • Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game

When evaluating a specific feature claim, check what build or version it comes from, whether the feature is actually absent from the release, and whether the statement comes from an official source or secondary leak reporting. A prototype may reflect a work in progress rather than a final decision about what the game would contain.

Do the reported files reveal new Pokémon games?

Reports about future projects in leaked material are not official game announcements and do not prove that a project is still in development, has a settled name, or will be released. The official channel is different: Pokémon Support says information about upcoming titles will be posted at pokemon.com when it becomes public. Until then, treat claims based on leaked plans as unconfirmed. See Pokémon Support’s guidance.

How the reports compare with the released game

Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, according to Nintendo. The final release—not an alleged beta build—is the reference point for deciding whether a reported feature is present in the game. See Nintendo’s release information.

The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A site also announced a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition plus Mega Dimension bundle planned for October 29, 2026. That date is in the future as of October 8, 2026; the bundle announcement does not authenticate or explain the leaked development material. Check the official Z-A site.
