Terraria’s 1.4.5 update, titled “Bigger & Boulder,” launched on January 27, 2026. Re-Logic later reported that the update coincided with one of the game’s biggest player surges, peaking at “almost 230,000 concurrent players” and nearly twice the size of the spike around the Labor of Love update. Those are the developer’s approximate figures and comparison; it did not publish an exact count or a platform-by-platform breakdown.
When did Terraria 1.4.5 release?
Re-Logic announced a global launch for PC, console, and mobile on January 27, 2026. The developer noted an exception for the bespoke China Mobile version: its release timing differed because of server migration, review, and testing requirements. Re-Logic’s launch notes

How many people played after the update?
In its February 2026 State of the Game, Re-Logic said the update produced “one of the largest player spikes in the history of the game,” peaking at almost 230,000 concurrent players. The studio described that spike as nearly twice the size of the one associated with Labor of Love. Re-Logic’s February 2026 State of the Game
“Almost 230,000” is an approximate figure, not an exact count. The post does not explain how the peak was measured or whether it covered every platform, and it does not publish the underlying data or an independently measured comparison. The report supports a large spike coinciding with the update, but does not establish why players returned.

What changed in the Bigger & Boulder update?
Re-Logic presented 1.4.5 as both a content update and a quality-of-life pass. The official notes highlight changes to crafting and inventory, multiplayer spectating, expanded secret seeds, and new music. These are examples rather than a complete feature list; Re-Logic says it does not disclose everything included in an update, even in its “full” changelog. Official Terraria 1.4.5 update notes
Crafting and inventory improvements
- The Guide and crafting stations gained a searchable, tabbed crafting interface.
- Players can craft using materials stored in nearby chests.
- A banner menu was added to the inventory, and identical items can stack fully.
Multiplayer, world seeds, and music
- Players waiting to respawn in multiplayer can spectate other players.
- The update expands the available secret world seeds.
- Re-Logic’s notes list eight new boss tracks.
Does 1.4.5 add crossplay?
The release announcement confirms availability across PC, console, and mobile, but that alone does not establish crossplay between those platforms. Check current, platform-specific information before assuming players on different systems can join the same world.

What was the hotfix and mod status?
In February 2026, Re-Logic reported that five hotfix rounds had shipped and that other issues remained under review. The same post said the tModLoader update for 1.4.5 was ongoing. Those statements describe the situation at the time of that post; they do not identify the latest patch or current mod compatibility. For present-day status, consult the relevant platform’s release information and the current tModLoader announcements.
