Each has an official profile with its category, size, ability, and a brief description—but their evolutions, final typings, and battle strengths have not been revealed.
Who are the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters?
The Pokémon Company announced the three first partners on February 27, 2026. Here is what their official profiles establish:
| Pokémon | Category and type | Height and weight | Ability | Official profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Browt | Bean Chick Pokémon; Grass | 1 ft (0.3 m); 7.7 lb (3.5 kg) | Overgrow | Runs energetically while photosynthesizing with the leaves on its brow; lively but can be clumsy. |
| Pombon | Puppy Pokémon; Fire | 1 ft 4 in (0.4 m); 14.8 lb (6.7 kg) | Blaze | A heat-generating organ in its lungs makes the area below its throat glow faintly; guileless and friendly. |
| Gecqua | Water Gecko Pokémon; Water | 1 ft (0.3 m); 9.5 lb (4.3 kg) | Torrent | Launches springy balls of water from its tail; very intelligent and shrewd, while putting on airs. |
These are the official profile measurements and descriptions published in The Pokémon Company’s announcement.
Which starter should you choose?
The confirmed differences are their types, abilities, measurements, and personalities. Browt is the Grass-type option, Pombon the Fire-type, and Gecqua the Water-type. The announcement invites players to choose one as a partner, but it does not provide battle statistics or evidence that one is stronger, easier to use, or better suited to a particular play style. A preference for a type or character design is all the official information currently supports.

Players will team up with Pokémon to overcome obstacles and forces of nature; the announcement does not spell out further mechanics.
The player character’s outfit differs in the announcement images: the Winds character wears a light-colored outfit with a wide-brim hat, while the Waves character wears a blue cap. How to read the first trailer and announcement images
The Pokémon Company labels the screenshots as showing a product under development and warns that footage is conceptual and does not all represent actual gameplay. The official Nintendo product page likewise notes that screenshots and footage are from a product under development. The images introduce the setting and characters, but are not proof that every depicted feature will appear in the finished games.
