Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are the official names of the next announced mainline Pokémon games. The Pokémon Company says they will launch simultaneously worldwide in 2027, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement confirms an open-world setting, three first partner Pokémon, and a few other details—but it does not verify most of the specific map, story, and gameplay claims circulating as leaks.
What are Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves?
Announced by The Pokémon Company on February 27, 2026, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are new entries in the Pokémon series. The official names are plural; “Wind” and “Wave” are not the announced titles.
The games are scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in 2027, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. No specific release day or month has been announced. Nintendo UK lists Nintendo as publisher and Game Freak as developer. Its listing gives a provisional PEGI 7 rating; age ratings can differ by territory and may change.
What setting and gameplay have been officially revealed?
The Pokémon Company describes the games as an open world of “beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves that ebb and flow.” It says Pokémon in the lush environment have their own ecosystems, and players will team up with Pokémon to overcome challenges, including forces of nature that block their path. That is the published premise, not confirmation of a named region or a detailed map.

The official announcement does not disclose a full plot, Gym or Elite Four details, or specific systems beyond that broad description. Screenshots and footage are from a game in development; the final game may differ.
Which starter Pokémon are confirmed?
| Pokémon | Species | Type | Ability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browt | Bean Chick Pokémon | Grass | Overgrow |
| Pombon | Puppy Pokémon | Fire | Blaze |
| Gecqua | Water Gecko Pokémon | Water | Torrent |
These are the three first partner Pokémon named in the announcement. Their evolutions have not been revealed.
What is different between Winds and Waves?
The confirmed visual distinction is the player character’s outfit: the Winds character is shown in a light-colored outfit with a wide-brim hat, while the Waves character wears a blue cap outfit. The announced details do not establish version-exclusive areas, Pokémon, storylines, or gameplay features, so there is not yet a factual basis for choosing a version based on content.
