The Pokémon Company has shared their first-form types, categories, abilities, and brief descriptions; evolution names, designs, later types, and methods have not been revealed in the official information reviewed.
Are the Winds and Waves starter evolutions confirmed?
No. The Pokémon Company’s announcement dated February 27, 2026, introduces Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua as the games’ first partner Pokémon, but does not show or name their evolutions. The official game page also provides no evolution details. Any claims about their future forms, secondary types, or evolution conditions should therefore be treated as speculation unless confirmed in a later official announcement.
The games are scheduled for simultaneous worldwide release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, according to The Pokémon Company’s announcement. The official game site describes an open world of windswept islands and a vast ocean.
What the official sources confirm about each starter
The revealed profiles describe the first forms only. They do not establish what a Pokémon evolves into or what type it might have later.

#1 Best Overall
| First partner | Official category | Confirmed type | Ability | Officially described trait |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Browt | Bean Chick Pokémon | Grass | Overgrow | Runs energetically while photosynthesizing with the leaves on its brow; lively but sometimes clumsy. |
| Pombon | Puppy Pokémon | Fire | Blaze | A heat-generating organ in its lungs makes the area below its throat glow faintly; it is guileless and friendly. |
| Gecqua | Water Gecko Pokémon | Water | Torrent | Launches springy balls of water from its tail and maneuvers shrewdly; it is described as intelligent and putting on airs. |
The descriptions and profile details come from The Pokémon Company’s February 27, 2026 announcement. Nintendo UK’s listing also identifies the games as Nintendo Switch 2 titles planned for 2027 and attributes the Pokémon descriptions to the publisher: Nintendo UK listing.
What remains unconfirmed about their evolutions
In the official materials reviewed, there are no confirmed evolution names or artwork for Browt, Pombon, or Gecqua. Those sources also do not state later-stage types, evolution levels, or other evolution conditions. The published descriptions are about the revealed starter forms, not clues that establish a particular evolution.
Fan concepts and predictions—such as a bird-like future form for Browt, a larger canine form for Pombon, or a different gecko design for Gecqua—may be interesting, but they are not official reveals. The same applies to proposed secondary typings. Keep such ideas separate from confirmed facts.
