Why Pokémon is celebrating 30 years in 2026
Pokémon’s Japanese announcement dates the franchise’s 30th anniversary to February 27, 2026, 30 years after Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were released in Japan on February 27, 1996. Pokémon’s anniversary announcement anchors the celebration to that date.
The trading card game has its own 30th-anniversary campaign. On February 27, 2026, The Pokémon Company International announced that the Pokémon TCG was turning 30 and said releases would arrive in participating markets throughout the year.
