To find Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia, discover them in habitats and meet any conditions attached to that habitat—especially time of day and weather. A complete, current roster is harder to state: the available sources do not establish one authoritative total across the base game, Bubbly Basin, events, and alternate forms. This guide explains how to use habitat information, gives verified examples, and separates the paid expansion from the base-game search.
What you need: Nintendo lists Pokémon Pokopia as a physical game for Nintendo Switch 2. The Bubbly Basin content described below requires the Expansion Pass; it is not a requirement for the base game.
How to find Pokémon in Pokopia
Pokémon are discovered by finding them in habitats. A habitat entry is more than a location name: Nintendo Life’s guide records the habitat, time, weather, and Pokémon Specialty, and some species have different conditions or alternative habitats. Check all of those fields before changing your search area or waiting for a particular encounter.
- Find the Pokémon’s habitat. Use the in-game Pokédex or a habitat guide to identify the required combination of items or environmental features.
- Build or locate that habitat. Pocket Tactics reported that habitats could be placed in any area, while noting exceptions such as Pokémon specific to Palette Town. Its guide was published April 7, 2026, before Bubbly Basin was released.
- Match the conditions. Check whether the entry limits the encounter to a time of day or weather. If the habitat is present but the Pokémon does not appear, a mismatched condition may be the reason.
- Give rarer options time. Pocket Tactics notes that some Pokémon are rarer in one habitat than another. The sources do not establish reliable encounter probabilities, so a failed search in one habitat does not prove the Pokémon cannot appear there.
Nintendo Life’s August 13, 2026 guide also includes a Specialty field for Pokémon. It is useful for comparing entries, but Specialty should not be mistaken for an appearance condition unless the specific entry says it affects discovery.

Verified habitat examples
These examples show why checking each species’ conditions matters. They are not a complete Pokédex list.
| Pokémon | Habitat | Time | Weather | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bulbasaur | Tall Grass | All times | All weather | Nintendo Life’s habitat guide, August 13, 2026 |
| Charmander | Tall Grass | Not stated in the cited example | Sunny or cloudy | Nintendo Life’s habitat guide, August 13, 2026 |
For Charmander, the Tall Grass habitat alone is not enough: the cited guide specifies sunny or cloudy weather. The listed conditions for Bulbasaur are broader. Consult the individual entry for other Pokémon rather than assuming either pattern applies to the whole Pokédex.
How many Pokémon and habitats are there?
There is no verified single total here that combines base-game Pokémon, Bubbly Basin, event Pokémon, and alternate forms under one stated counting rule. Published counts cover different scopes and dates, so adding them together would create a misleading total.
- Base-game habitat count: Pocket Tactics documented 209 habitats on April 7, 2026. That is a dated count from before Bubbly Basin, not a current whole-game total.
- Bubbly Basin: Nintendo Life’s area guide reports 50 Pokémon and 36 habitats for that DLC area. These are guide-reported area figures, not an official total for all Pokopia content.
- Other published totals: Secondary sources report differing numbers, including a tracker with 303 entries and a Pokopia Network synopsis saying at least 300 Pokémon and more than 200 habitats. Their scopes and dates do not establish one comparable, authoritative total.
For a completion target, use the entries shown in your own Pokédex and distinguish species from alternate forms if the game does so. Do not treat a third-party total as definitive unless it states whether it includes DLC, events, and forms.

Event Pokémon are a separate availability question
Nintendo Life tracks event Pokémon separately from its standard habitat guide. That distinction matters: an event entry may not be obtainable through the ordinary habitat search. The sources cited here do not establish a current event roster or confirm which event encounters are available on October 8, 2026. Check the game’s current event notices before searching for a particular event Pokémon.
Finding Pokémon in Bubbly Basin
Bubbly Basin is an underwater town with additional Pokémon, furniture, outfits, and activities, according to Nintendo’s announcement of August 5, 2026. Nintendo identifies it as Part 1 of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, released August 4, 2026. Access to the area requires the Expansion Pass.

Nintendo Support lists the pass through Nintendo eShop on Switch 2 and Nintendo Store. Its published schedule placed later parts in late 2026 and 2027; check Nintendo’s current schedule for any changes. The reported 50 Pokémon and 36 habitats in Nintendo Life’s Bubbly Basin guide apply to that area only.

- Habitat recipe or features: the items and environment needed to create the habitat.
- Area: whether it can be made in any area or is tied to a place such as Palette Town.
- Time and weather: any restricted conditions, rather than just the habitat name.
- Content access: whether the location is part of the base game, Bubbly Basin, or an event.
- Rarity notes: useful when a guide identifies a less reliable habitat, but not a substitute for an exact probability.
Nintendo Life’s guide provides habitat, time, weather, and Specialty fields, while Pocket Tactics notes that some species may be rarer in one habitat than another. Neither supports assigning an exact encounter chance without a separately verified figure.
