In Avowed, “Precious Light” is a Dawnshore side quest about retrieving a crate of luminous adra from Castol’s Folly. Start with Sapiento de Falva in Southern Paradis, follow local leads to the island, then decide whether to take the crate to Sapiento or Captain Bardatto. Returning the adra to Sapiento is the route associated with the Fantastic Alembic.
How to start “Precious Light”
Find Sapiento de Falva in the Market District of Southern Paradis and speak with him to begin the quest. You can also unlock it by speaking with Captain Trevik at Castol’s Folly, according to Game8’s walkthrough.
How to find the luminous adra
- Ask around in Paradis. Follow the quest objective and speak with locals about the luminous adra and smugglers. Scholar Adelgund in the Administration District is a key lead. Some walkthroughs describe additional conversations and objective markers before you reach her.
- Travel to Castol’s Folly. Use the quest marker to guide you around the island; walkthroughs do not agree on exact direction labels. Captain Trevik and the smugglers are there with the crate.
- Get the crate. You can fight Trevik and nearby smugglers to loot it. Neoseeker also notes a nearby lockbox containing an Arcanist’s Ring; that extra loot is reported by that guide, not consistently across the walkthroughs.
These route details are reported in Neoseeker’s quest guide and Game8’s walkthrough.
Should you give the crate to Sapiento or Captain Bardatto?
Captain Bardatto is an optional stop in the reported route. You can take the crate to her, or bypass her and return directly to Sapiento. The outcomes below reflect secondary walkthroughs published in February 2025, and their reward details are not fully consistent.

| Choice | Reported outcome | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Give the luminous adra to Sapiento | Game8 reports the Fantastic Alembic and 977 XP. Neoseeker reports XP, the Fantastic Alembic, and 300 Skeyt. | This is the documented route for receiving the Alembic. Nightly Gaming Binge instead reports 300 gold, so treat currency figures as guide-reported rather than settled. |
| Hand the crate to Captain Bardatto | Game8’s choice guide says this gives no reward. Its walkthrough also says you can report back to Sapiento and receive quest-completion XP without the adra. | The descriptions do not fully align; do not assume a precise XP total or that handing over the crate ends every objective. |
| Fight Captain Bardatto | Game8 reports a Bloodstone Gem from her corpse. | This is a reported loot outcome, not a guaranteed reward across all versions. |

After deciding who gets the crate, return to Sapiento and speak with him to report the outcome. If you want the Fantastic Alembic, deliver the luminous adra to Sapiento; choosing Bardatto instead is not reported as awarding that item. Currency and XP totals vary between the February 2025 guides, so check your quest reward in-game rather than relying on a single figure.
