What the interactive map is for
Shadow of the Erdtree takes place in the Land of Shadow, a new world separate from the Lands Between. The expansion adds its own weapons, equipment, skills, magic, enemies, bosses, and storylines. Bandai Namco describes travel between the established world and this separate area in its expansion overview.
MapGenie’s app listings describe an unofficial fan-made map with location search, categories, progress tracking, notes, and synchronization with its website. Those features suit different tasks: search can help locate a named place, filters can narrow the map to a type of location, and saved progress or notes can help you manage your own checklist. The map is a separate guide, however; its progress tracker is not a connection to your Elden Ring save.
How to use a third-party map without confusing it with the game map
- Open the external map on a browser or supported mobile app. MapGenie’s Google Play and Apple listings both describe map access and tracking features; the listings are Google Play and Apple App Store.
- Search or filter for the location you need. Use categories to reduce clutter, then check the map entry against what you are looking for in the game.
- Use notes or progress tracking as your own checklist. Treat saved status as a reminder you manage yourself, not as automatic detection of discoveries or pickups in your game.
- Return to the game’s map for navigation. Map fragments reveal the area map, discovered markers add icons, and a placed beacon provides a compass icon and a visible in-world light.
Bandai Namco’s official gameplay overview says Guidance of Grace appears on the map after you find an area’s map fragment. It describes key Sites of Grace as marked by a faint golden trail pointing in a general direction. The same guide explains that discovered map markers add icons, and that beacons help you navigate toward a chosen point. These are in-game systems; an external map does not alter them. The guide also notes that not every field or world boss is marked, so the built-in map is not a complete checklist of everything you might encounter.

What MapGenie’s listings establish—and what they do not
The Google Play listing advertises more than 1,500 locations and 70+ categories, alongside search, progress tracking, notes, and website synchronization. Those are MapGenie’s product claims, not an independent audit of accuracy or completeness. The listing itself warns that some information may be incomplete. The Apple listing also describes search, categories, tracking, notes, synchronization, and overworld and underground maps, but advertises a different location count. Because the counts differ by listing, they should not be treated as a stable total across platforms.
If you compare map options, focus on whether they cover the locations you need, offer useful search and filters, save progress or notes, work on your preferred device, and clearly identify themselves as unofficial. Available information supports describing MapGenie’s listed features and the game’s own map tools; it does not establish a comprehensive independent ranking of all map providers.

Bandai Namco’s expansion page and edition information describe the prerequisite and the combined Shadow of the Erdtree Edition, which includes the base game and expansion. Editions and availability vary by region and platform; Bandai Namco Europe confirms physical retail versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, not a universal physical format for every edition or region.
