Was Pokémon Pokopia announced at a Nintendo Direct?
Yes. GamesRadar’s contemporaneous report identifies Pokémon Pokopia as a reveal in the September 12, 2025 Nintendo Direct. Nintendo’s own announcement article, published September 19, 2025, confirmed the game and its original 2026 release window, but did not name the Direct in the article. GamesRadar’s September 12 report supports the event attribution; Nintendo’s announcement supplies the official premise and early details.
What is Pokémon Pokopia?
It is a life-simulation sandbox built around restoring a desolate landscape and making it welcoming to Pokémon. The player controls a Ditto that has transformed to look human. Nintendo’s announcement put the premise this way: “Play as a Ditto – who has transformed to look like a human – to shape an empty land into a beautiful space for a variety of Pokémon.”
How the restoration loop works
Nintendo describes a cycle of exploring, gathering resources, learning useful moves from Pokémon, and using materials to build up the environment. Players can collect berries, rocks, and wood; craft furniture; cultivate tilled fields and grow vegetables; and create homes for Pokémon. The current Nintendo listing also names Leafage, Rock Smash, Surf, and gliding among the moves and traversal abilities shown.

When did Pokémon Pokopia come out, and what platform is it on?
Nintendo lists Pokémon Pokopia for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of March 5, 2026. It is not listed as an original Nintendo Switch game. The announcement-era 2026 window was later replaced by the specific launch date on Nintendo’s current product page.

How does multiplayer work?
Nintendo says up to four people can play together online or through local wireless, and the game supports GameShare. The requirements differ by connection method:
- Local wireless: each player needs a console and a software copy.
- Online: players need internet access, a Nintendo Account, and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Membership availability and terms vary by region.

What is included in the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?
The Expansion Pass is paid DLC for the Nintendo Switch 2 game. Nintendo says it adds towns, Pokémon, and features; the UK listing says the base game is required and the individual parts are not sold separately. Regional price and availability should be checked on the applicable store page.

How many copies has Pokémon Pokopia sold?
The Pokémon Company and Nintendo reported that the game had sold more than five million copies worldwide in its first four months after launch. Their August 14, 2026 release says the figure is based on Nintendo data and includes digital sales; it is a dated milestone, not a current lifetime total. Read the announcement.
