Mario Kart World has sold 15.39 million units worldwide through June 30, 2026, according to Nintendo. That is a huge total—but it does not mean 15.39 million Switch 2 owners each chose to buy the game separately: Nintendo’s software figures include copies bundled with hardware and other products.
How many copies of Mario Kart World has Nintendo sold?
Nintendo lists Mario Kart World at 15.39 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2026. The company describes the figure as worldwide consolidated lifetime software sales and says its software totals include bundled copies as well as downloadable versions. Nintendo’s official best-selling software page is the source for the latest dated total here.
The figure is a count of reported software units, not a count of distinct people or households. One person could account for more than one copy, and a bundled game contributes to the total even when it was not purchased as a separate retail item.
Does that mean nearly every Switch 2 owner bought it?
It supports the headline as a punchy description of the game’s scale, but not as a literal separate-purchase rate. The cleanest dated comparison in Nintendo’s fiscal-year reporting is for the year ended March 31, 2026:

| Measure | Reported units | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 hardware | 19.86 million | Hardware units reported for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. |
| Mario Kart World software | 14.70 million | Software units for the same fiscal year; bundled copies are included. |
| All Nintendo Switch 2 software | 48.71 million | Total software units reported for the same fiscal year. |
Dividing 14.70 million game units by 19.86 million hardware units gives a rough ratio of about 74%. It is not a verified attach rate among unique owners: the numerator includes copies bundled with hardware, while the figures are reported on a sell-in basis. Nintendo defines sell-in as sales by the Nintendo group to outside entities, including business partners and direct/download sales. See the company’s fiscal-year hardware and software sales report and financial information.
What changed between March and June 2026?
Nintendo’s reported total rose from 14.70 million units for the fiscal year ended March 31 to 15.39 million as of June 30—a difference of 0.69 million units between the two official snapshots. That difference does not reveal how many were separate, full-price purchases; the later total also includes bundled units.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
The dates matter. The 15.39 million game figure is the freshest total cited here, but the fiscal-year hardware figure is from March 31. Comparing those two snapshots as if they were simultaneous would produce a misleading owner-to-game calculation.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has described Mario Kart World as an important title the company wants to keep selling throughout Switch 2’s lifecycle. Nintendo has also said it will continue communicating the game’s appeal as an evergreen title. That framing helps explain why the company tracks and promotes its lifetime sales, but it does not change what the unit count measures.

What the sales figures do—and do not—show
- They show: Mario Kart World had reached 15.39 million reported worldwide units by June 30, 2026, a substantial total relative to the Switch 2 hardware units reported earlier that fiscal year.
- They do not show: the number of unique Switch 2 owners who made a separate purchase, the share of owners who personally played the game, or how many sales were at full price.
- They include: bundled and downloadable software units, under Nintendo’s stated reporting method.
