Microsoft documents the surrounding XPS filter pipeline, its pipeline manager, and the Print Filter Pipeline Service. The related service is PrintFilterPipelineSvc, and the broader interfaces are described in Microsoft’s XPS filter documentation and filterpipeline.h reference.
This is not a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or Microsoft Office runtime file. It normally arrives as part of Windows or a Windows printer-driver/component update.
On 64-bit Windows, system components are commonly associated with C:WindowsSystem32, but the exact path depends on the Windows version, architecture, servicing state, and component layout. Do not treat an old path, file size, or version as a universal rule. Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
A pending or incomplete update can leave Windows components unavailable. Start with Windows Update before running repair commands.
Windows 11
- Select Start.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not require an immediate restart.
- Try the affected print operation again.
Windows 10
- Select Start.
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install the available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application or printer again.

Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Use an elevated Command Prompt. DISM repairs the Windows component source, and SFC then uses that source to replace missing or corrupted protected files. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window while it is running.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test printing or reopen the application that displayed the error.

A successful result usually says that SFC found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and repaired them. If the error disappears after restarting, no manual DLL replacement is needed.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the system problems involved and show what needs attention, while repairs are performed by the full version; it is optional, and Microsoft’s DISM and SFC remain the direct repair path.
If DISM cannot find repair files
Windows normally obtains repair content through Windows Update. If that source is unavailable, Microsoft documents using matching installation media or another known repair source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with a valid repair source that matches your Windows installation. Do not use an unrelated Windows release or architecture.

If SFC says it could not repair some files, save its details with:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
The report is saved to your desktop. It identifies files SFC could not repair, but it does not make downloading a random replacement DLL safe.
Fix 3: Repair the affected printer and driver
Use this fix when the error appears only during printing, printer installation, or spooler activity.
First remove the affected printer:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices on Windows 11, or Devices on Windows 10.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Remove or Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
If the old driver remains:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
printui /s /t2
- Press Enter.
- Select the affected driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose the option to remove the driver and driver package when available.
- Restart Windows.
Then install the current driver supplied for your exact printer model and Windows architecture. Prefer the printer manufacturer’s official support channel or a driver delivered through Windows Update. If the printer is modern and supports the newer Windows printing model, an inbox IPP driver may be preferable to an older legacy package. Older hardware may still rely on XPSDrv components.

If several drivers are outdated, manually identifying the correct package can involve comparing model numbers, Windows editions, and 32-bit versus 64-bit packages. After reinstalling the driver:
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Choose Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
- Confirm that the page prints without the DLL error.
If printing still fails, repair Windows with DISM and SFC again, then check whether the issue affects another printer or application.
Fix 4: Restart the Print Spooler
A damaged or stuck spooler can expose print-pipeline problems.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it.
- Select Restart.
- Try printing again.

- Open File Explorer.

C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS
- Delete the files inside that folder, not the folder itself.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler.
- Select Start.
- Test the printer.
You may need administrator permission to clear the queue.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine and run a scan
Security software can quarantine a Windows component, although quarantine is only one possible explanation and is not established as a cause specific to this filename.
- Open your antivirus or endpoint-security application.
- Open Quarantine, Protection history, or the equivalent section.
- Look for an entry involving

- Install Windows updates and restart after major servicing.
- Keep printer drivers matched to the exact printer model and Windows architecture.
- Remove obsolete printer drivers when replacing hardware.
- Keep security software enabled.
- Back up important files before major repair work.
