productinfo.dll is not one universal Windows system file. It belongs to the application that installed it, so the safest fix is to identify the full path and repair that application rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The filename is most often associated with A-Volute audio software, including Nahimic, Sonic Studio, Sonic Studio 3, and some OEM audio packages. It can also appear in older Intel VTune installations or software associated with SOURCENEXT. These are separate products, and their DLL files are not interchangeable.

Identify which product owns productinfo.dll
Before changing anything, record the complete path shown in the error. The path is more useful than the filename.
| Path or clue | Likely owner | Best first repair |

A path containing A-Volute, Nahimic, SonicStudio, or AlienwareSoundCenter points to an audio installation, not to Windows itself. The Intel and SOURCENEXT associations come from third-party file databases and may not identify the product installed on your computer.

What the error messages mean
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because productinfo.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading productinfo.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because productinfo.dll was not found.”
- “productinfo.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These are generic Windows loader messages. They do not identify the correct owner.
“The specified module could not be found” can mean that productinfo.dll is missing, but it can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. “Not designed to run on Windows” commonly indicates corruption, an incompatible architecture, or a mismatched binary. It does not prove that the file is malware.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the owning application
This is the primary fix when the path points to A-Volute or another identifiable application.
Recommended Free Tools
Try Windows app repair first
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Nahimic, Sonic Studio, Sonic Studio 3, Alienware Sound Center, VTune, SOURCENEXT software, or the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the application again.
Repair keeps the application and attempts to replace damaged files. If Repair is unavailable or does not help, return to the same screen and choose Uninstall. Restart before installing the correct package again.
Reinstall an OEM audio package
For an A-Volute or Nahimic path:
- Record your computer, laptop, or motherboard model.
- Open the manufacturer’s official support page.
- Search for that exact model.
- Download the current audio driver or Nahimic, Sonic Studio, or audio-control package supplied for the model.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, uninstall the affected audio-control component if the manufacturer’s instructions call for it.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the package downloaded for the exact model.
- Restart again.
The OEM package is preferable to a generic download because it can contain the matching audio driver, services, configuration files, and companion software. Do not install a package intended for another computer model.
If the file belongs to VTune or a SOURCENEXT application, use that product’s original installer or repair option instead. Do not use an A-Volute copy for those applications.
Verify the repair
The repair worked if the original application opens without the DLL message and the error no longer appears during startup. If the error remains, check whether the path has changed. A new path can show that a different installation or leftover startup entry is responsible.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a DLL. A cleanup utility can also remove a file that an installed application still needs.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
productinfo.dllor the application that owns it. - Expand the event and review the original file path, threat name, and action taken.
Restore a file only when all of these are true:
- The original path belongs to a trusted installed application.
- The application was installed from its official source.
- The file’s publisher and digital signature are consistent with that application.
- You are confident the detection is a false positive.
If the file is quarantined again immediately, do not keep restoring it. The file may be damaged, the detection may be genuine, or the vendor may need to investigate a false positive. Reinstall the owning application from its official installer instead.
To check a signature, right-click the remaining DLL or its parent executable, select Properties, and open Digital Signatures if that tab exists. A missing signature does not automatically prove that a file is malicious, but an unexpected signer or a path unrelated to the owning application is a warning sign.
Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 32-bit application needs 32-bit dependencies even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Do not choose a DLL based only on your Windows edition.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFirst identify the application architecture from its documentation, installer, or installation folder. Then reinstall the application package supplied for that application and device. Never replace the file with a copy from another product or architecture.
If the error separately mentions a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the required architecture from Microsoft’s Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads. Microsoft provides x86, x64, and ARM64 packages, and older applications may require a runtime to remain installed alongside newer versions.
Visual C++ is not the normal owner of productinfo.dll. Reinstalling the runtime is relevant only when the error or application documentation identifies it as a missing dependency.
Fix 4: Update or reinstall the audio driver
Use this step when the problem started after an audio-driver change, or when Device Manager shows an audio warning.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider and driver date.
- If the problem began after an update, select Roll Back Driver when available.
- Otherwise select Update Driver, then Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
For a complete replacement, download the audio driver for the exact computer or motherboard model from its official support page. In Device Manager, right-click the audio device, choose Uninstall device, select the option to remove the driver only if the manufacturer instructs you to do so, restart, and then install the downloaded package.
Searching manually for the right audio package can involve comparing several driver versions and companion components. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the application or OEM package remains the definitive fix when productinfo.dll belongs to that product.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components
Use Windows repair commands when several unrelated applications fail, Windows Update is damaged, or other protected Windows files report errors. These commands generally will not restore a third-party A-Volute, VTune, or SOURCENEXT DLL.

- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component image. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If both commands report that repairs completed, test the application again. If they report that no corruption was found, return to repairing the application that owns productinfo.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRepeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow and uncertain. Outbyte PC Repair can show what it finds in its free scan, while repairs are performed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the owning application remains the correct fix for a third-party DLL.

A pending Windows update can leave a driver or application installation incomplete.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Test the affected application.
Do not enable random Windows features to replace productinfo.dll. If the application’s own documentation specifically requires a Windows component:
- Open Start and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open the result.
- Enable only the feature named by the application’s documentation.
- Select OK and restart if prompted.
A Windows feature cannot substitute for a missing file from an unrelated application.

Fix 7: Use System Restore for a recent regression
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a driver, application, or update installation and no clean installer is available.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that will change.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore normally leaves personal files unchanged, but it can change drivers, installed programs, system files, and registry settings. After Windows starts again, reinstall any required application or driver using the correct official package.
What not to do
Do not download a random productinfo.dll
DLL download sites can provide the wrong vendor’s file, the wrong architecture, a damaged file, or a file bundled with malware. A replacement may also fail because the actual problem is a missing dependency, broken service, or incomplete application installation.
Do not copy the file into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A game folder
- Another application’s installation directory
Installers should place DLLs in their intended locations. The same filename can belong to unrelated products, so a SOURCENEXT file must not be used to repair an A-Volute installation.
Do not routinely run regsvr32
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically for COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that the A-Volute or Nahimic productinfo.dll should be registered manually.
Running:
regsvr32 productinfo.dll
may produce an error saying that the entry point was not found. It will not repair a missing dependency, damaged installation, or architecture mismatch.
Do not confuse productinfo.dll with product_info.dll
The filenames are different. product_info.dll is associated with other products, including security software, and must not be substituted for productinfo.dll.
FAQ
Is productinfo.dll a Windows system file?
No universal Windows component is established by this filename. It normally ships with the third-party program that installed it. A file with this name under System32 or SysWOW64 is not automatically legitimate.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Is productinfo.dll malware?
The filename alone cannot answer that. Check the full path, digital signature, owning application, and Windows Security history. An unexpected location or signer deserves investigation.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found when the file is present?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or incompatible file. Repair the owning application and check whether the application reports a separate runtime or driver dependency.
Can SFC restore productinfo.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while productinfo.dll is normally supplied by a third-party application.
What if the error appears at startup after uninstalling Nahimic or Sonic Studio?
The uninstall may have left a startup task or service. Check Task Manager > Startup apps, identify the owning application, and remove it properly. Do not delete random files from C:ProgramData while the product is still installed.
What information should I provide when asking for further help?
Record the complete error path, application name, Windows version, whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit, digital-signature details, Windows Security history, Event Viewer errors, and what changed immediately before the problem started.
