Project Hadar has reached a coherent vision for its world and major elements, but CD PROJEKT RED says the game is still not in formal pre-production. Developers are finishing the world-building stage, building small prototypes and testing gameplay ideas rather than producing a release-ready game.
What the latest Hadar update actually says
GamesRadar’s October 15, 2026 report describes a major step forward: CD PROJEKT RED has established a coherent vision for Hadar’s world and key elements, and the team is nearly finished building that world. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the project has been “our biggest undertaking to date, taking us several years.”

That progress does not mean Hadar has entered full development. The same report explicitly says the project is “not yet in pre-production.” Developers are making small prototypes and testing gameplay elements while they determine which ideas belong in the final game.

Where Hadar sits in development
The public descriptions from September and October use different wording because they refer to successive points in the same early phase. CD PROJEKT’s September 2, 2026 H1 earnings-call transcript called Hadar “still in the concept phase.” The company said it had more than 30 people working on the project, was testing different approaches and gameplay prototypes, and expected to grow the team to as many as 50 developers by the end of 2026.

In practical terms, Hadar has moved beyond an entirely open-ended brainstorm, but it has not reached the stage at which a large team is building the complete game against a locked production plan. Neither update announces a release window.
What kind of game is Project Hadar?
Hadar is CD PROJEKT RED’s first fully proprietary intellectual property. Unlike The Witcher, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, and Cyberpunk, which draws on a tabletop role-playing property, Hadar is being created internally from the company’s own ideas, resources and skills.

That distinction explains why the project’s world-building has taken years. The studio is not adapting an established setting with known characters, history or rules. It must define those foundations itself before it can communicate specific story or gameplay details.

No public information in the current updates establishes Hadar’s final title, genre, setting, characters, playable systems, platforms, screenshots, launch date or price. There is also no announced edition, preorder, soundtrack, book, collectible or other Hadar-specific product.

The September earnings call placed the project at more than 30 people, with a target of up to 50 developers by the end of 2026. That is a measurable sign of continued investment, but it is not a forecast of the final production team or the game’s scope. A concept team can include specialists exploring technology, narrative, art and gameplay without representing the much larger staff required for full production.

The company’s 2025 management report also listed Hadar as an internally developed new IP within its broader franchise-portfolio strategy. That report mentions ongoing work on tie-in products at the group level, but it does not establish any Hadar merchandise currently available for purchase.

When could Project Hadar release?
There is no reliable release estimate. A project that is not yet in pre-production still has major decisions ahead: locking the design direction, preparing production plans, expanding the team, creating larger playable builds and completing the long development cycle that follows. CD PROJEKT has not supplied a date or even a release window, so any specific year would be speculation.

Can you buy anything related to Hadar?
There is currently no verified Hadar-specific product to buy. Do not treat merchandise from The Witcher or Cyberpunk as Hadar merchandise, and do not assume an unverified marketplace listing is official. CD PROJEKT’s public material supports only the possibility of future tie-in products; it does not identify a current Hadar item or preorder program.
What to watch for in the next announcement
The most meaningful confirmation would be evidence that the project has entered pre-production or full production, followed by concrete information about its playable systems and target platforms. A formal title, setting, characters, screenshots or a release window would represent a substantially later stage than the one described in October 2026.
For now, the accurate picture is narrower but significant: CD PROJEKT RED has spent several years defining its first wholly owned universe, believes the world vision is nearly complete, and is still experimenting with gameplay before formal pre-production begins.
