Project Infinity 0.1 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. To run a server, use the server pack that matches the client build, Java 17 or 21, and roughly 8 GB of allocated memory as a starting point. A managed host can install the pack from its control panel; self-hosting requires extracting the server files, setting the JVM heap with -Xms and -Xmx, and starting the Forge server. Back up the world before every pack update because Project Infinity receives frequent changes and hotfixes.

What Project Infinity 0.1 is

Project Infinity 0.1 is a Forge-based Minecraft modpack targeting Minecraft 1.20.1. Forge is the mod loader, while 1.20.1 is the Minecraft version the pack expects. A server running another Minecraft version, another loader, or a different modpack build is not a compatible substitute.

The CurseForge listing summary reported release 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 on September 16, 2026. That date and build came from a search summary rather than a directly opened listing, so check the live CurseForge version list immediately before downloading. Host listings also cite 0.0.51.4, but hotfixes can change the exact file that should be installed.

Choose managed hosting or self-hosting

Both approaches run the same pack, but they shift responsibility in different ways. Choose the route that matches how much control and maintenance you want.

Decision point Managed host Self-hosted machine
Initial setup Select Project Infinity in the host panel and click the installation control; the provider prepares the server. Download the server pack, extract it, configure Java and heap flags, then start Forge yourself.
Control Less control over the underlying operating system and launch environment. Full control over files, launch arguments, backups, Java installation and update timing.
Cost Recurring hosting charge. No hosting-plan charge, but you supply a suitable computer, connection and administration time.
Java and updates The provider may select Java and expose pack updates through its panel; verify that the selected build matches your clients. You install Java 17 or 21 and decide when to replace the server files.
Best fit Players who want a quick deployment and do not want to maintain a server operating system. Administrators who need file-level access or already have a machine available.

A one-click install is convenient, but it does not remove the need to check the pack version. Before anyone connects, compare the build shown by the host with the build installed in every client.

Requirements before installation

Minecraft and loader

Install the Project Infinity 0.1 client for Minecraft 1.20.1 and use its Forge profile. The server must also be the Forge server pack for 1.20.1. Do not mix a client profile from one pack release with a server archive from another.

Java version

Use Java 17 or Java 21. Java 8 will not work with the setup described for this pack. Piggo’s guidance favors Java 21 when the host or operating system lets you choose, citing its garbage-collection behavior, while Java 17 remains within the recommended range. Confirm the active runtime with:

java -version

If that command reports Java 8 or another unsupported runtime, install the required 17 or 21 build and make sure the server’s launch script points to it rather than an older system Java.

Memory

Plan for at least about 8 GB for the server process. That is a practical starting point, not a universal hard requirement: individual host listings give different figures, and the number of players, world activity and other processes affect the result. Allocate memory through the Java launch command, not through server.properties.

Matching files

Download the server pack rather than copying a client installation. One CurseForge archive is named Serverfiles_Project_Infinity_0_1_0.0.45.2, demonstrating that server files can use a numbering scheme different from the current client listing. Treat the number as an identifier to match deliberately, not as proof that any similarly named archive is compatible.

Install through a managed host

Panels differ in wording, but the workflow is consistent. The provider documentation describes selecting the pack and pressing an Install button; other panels expose the same action under a modpack or software installer menu.

  1. Open the server’s modpack, game or software installer in the host panel.
  2. Search for Project Infinity 0.1 and select the Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge entry, not a similarly named pack or a different Minecraft version.
  3. Read the displayed pack build. Install the same build in each player’s client. If the panel offers only an older server build, either select that exact client version or wait until the host publishes the required one.
  4. Apply the installation and allow the panel to finish downloading and configuring the server. Do not launch while files are still being replaced.
  5. Open the Java or startup settings and confirm that the runtime is Java 17 or 21. If the panel permits a custom runtime, select Java 21 when it is supported and stable for your host.
  6. Set the memory allocation using the panel’s Java or startup-memory control. Begin around 8 GB for a small group, then use the player guidance below rather than assigning all physical RAM to Java.
  7. Start the server once with no players connected. Watch the console for completion, then stop it cleanly before editing world settings or installing additional server-side files.

Managed installation reduces file and Java maintenance, but the world is still yours to protect. Download a copy of the world and configuration before accepting a pack update, and retain the previous server build until the updated world has been tested.

Self-host Project Infinity 0.1

1. Obtain and extract the server pack

Download the server-files archive for the exact Project Infinity build used by your clients. Extract it into a dedicated folder rather than into an existing vanilla server directory. Keeping the pack isolated makes it easier to identify its Forge jar, configuration files, libraries and world folder.

2. Verify Java before the first start

Run java -version from the same account that will run the server. Java 17 and Java 21 are the supported range described for this setup; Java 8 is not suitable. On systems with multiple installations, use the full path to the intended Java executable in your start script so a system update cannot silently switch runtimes.

3. Set the heap on the launch command

The initial heap is controlled with -Xms and the maximum heap with -Xmx. Piggo’s example uses a 4 GB initial heap and a 10 GB maximum:

java -Xms4G -Xmx10G -jar forge-server.jar nogui

The jar name in your extracted pack may differ; use the Forge server jar supplied by that archive. The important settings are the two heap flags. Set -Xmx to the machine’s available memory minus roughly 1–2 GB for the operating system and other services. For example, a machine with enough free memory for a 10 GB Java maximum should not also run unrelated databases, launchers and monitoring tools inside that same allowance.

  • CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
  • EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
  • SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
  • PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
  • COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.

If the archive includes a start script, edit its existing Java line instead of creating a second competing launcher. Preserve any arguments supplied by the pack, add or adjust the heap flags, and keep the script in the server folder so relative paths continue to work.

4. Start and observe the first boot

Start the server from its folder and leave the console visible. A first generation can take time while Forge and the pack create files. Piggo’s troubleshooting guidance treats a start that remains stuck for more than 20 minutes as a likely memory problem. Before changing mods or deleting files, check the Java version, the actual -Xmx value in the running command, available system memory and whether another process is consuming the machine’s RAM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Connect only after the build is confirmed

Once the console reaches a ready state, stop the server cleanly, review the generated configuration and start it again. Have each player select the identical Project Infinity client build before attempting to join. A version mismatch can look like a networking or mod-loading failure even when the server itself started normally.

How much RAM does the server need?

Provider figures are recommendations rather than laboratory requirements. The most conservative common starting point is about 8 GB, while one host listing advertises 5,000 MB. Piggo’s player-count table gives the following baseline amounts and says its recommended figures are 2–4 GB higher:

Concurrent players Piggo baseline Range 2–4 GB above baseline
1–2 8 GB 10–12 GB
3–5 10 GB 12–14 GB
6–10 12 GB 14–16 GB

These figures describe Java allocation, not the total physical memory that should be installed in the computer. Leave headroom for the operating system, remote-access tools and any other services. On a small private server, start at the lower end that leaves the machine responsive, then increase -Xmx only when logs or performance measurements show that memory is the limiting factor.

Do not confuse a provider’s minimum with a guarantee. A 5,000 MB recommendation may boot a lightly used instance, while Piggo advises not going below 8 GB. The safer planning choice for a modded group is therefore to begin around 8 GB and size upward for additional players rather than treating 5,000 MB as a target for every world.

World creation settings that cannot be repaired later

Project Infinity’s starting-island setup is decided when the world is generated. Piggo warns that it cannot be changed after generation, so settle the seed and world options before the first player joins. Write down the intended values and keep them with the server backup.

  1. Stop the server before changing world-generation settings.
  2. Set the seed and the starting-island or related world options in the pack’s normal world-creation interface.
  3. Enable cheats during world creation if your group intends to use the administrative tools advised for the setup.
  4. Start the server and verify the generated spawn and island arrangement yourself.
  5. Only then invite players or copy the connection details to the group.

Do not test a new seed by overwriting the only copy of an established world. Create a separate test world or restore a backup first; changing the generated world later is a migration project, not a simple setting toggle.

Performance checks and first fixes

When startup takes more than 20 minutes

  • Confirm that the process is using Java 17 or 21, not Java 8.
  • Check the launch line for the intended -Xmx value; editing a script that the host never executes has no effect.
  • Make sure the operating system still has free memory. Increasing Java’s maximum while starving the operating system can make startup slower.
  • Read the final console lines for a repeating error before removing anything from the pack.

When gameplay feels slow

Piggo identifies TPS below 15 as a problem threshold. Check the server’s live TPS rather than judging only by a player’s connection bars. If TPS is below 15, reduce competing processes, verify that the Java heap is not constantly exhausted, and review the pack’s recommended G1GC launch flags. Apply one change at a time and observe the result so you know which adjustment helped.

When players cannot join

  • Compare the complete client and server build identifiers, including hotfix suffixes.
  • Confirm that every client uses Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
  • Check that the server finished its first boot and is running the same world you tested.
  • Read the client and server logs for a missing or mismatched mod before changing network settings.

Updating safely

Project Infinity changes frequently, and hotfixes can alter files that an existing world depends on. Treat every update as a migration with a rollback path.

  1. Stop the server cleanly and wait for the save to finish.
  2. Copy the complete world folder and the server configuration to a separate location. Include any scripts or custom settings you changed.
  3. Record the current client and server build numbers so you can restore the exact working combination.
  4. Install the new server build in a separate directory when possible. Do not overwrite the only working installation.
  5. Apply the new server files, retain only intentional configuration changes, and start the updated server without players.
  6. Test world loading, the starting area and the functions your group uses most.
  7. Update every client to the same build only after the server passes that test.

If the updated pack fails to load the world, stop it and restore the backup with the previous server build. Do not repeatedly launch a damaged or partially migrated world, because each start can write additional changes.

Common setup mistakes

Using the wrong archive

A server archive may show a number that does not look identical to the latest client release. That is expected in the available listings, but it makes deliberate matching essential. Use the server pack associated with the client build you selected; do not infer compatibility from a similar filename.

  • access new mini games and game modes through servers

Putting heap settings in the wrong file

server.properties does not control Java heap size. Set -Xms and -Xmx on the Java launch command or in the pack’s own start script. If memory does not change after an edit, inspect the actual process command or host panel startup line.

Allocating all physical RAM

Giving Java every available gigabyte leaves no room for the operating system and can produce worse performance. Keep the 1–2 GB operating-system allowance in mind, plus anything required by other services on the machine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Changing the world after players arrive

The starting-island setup is not a post-generation option. Decide the seed and world settings before the first player joins, and test them before treating the world as permanent.

Updating without a rollback

A hotfix can be valuable, but it is not a substitute for a backup. Keep a known-good world and server build until the new combination has been tested.

Recommended baseline configuration

For a small private group, use Minecraft 1.20.1 with the Forge Project Infinity 0.1 client and its matching server pack, Java 21 when available (Java 17 is also supported), and an initial launch such as -Xms4G -Xmx10G on a machine that has sufficient free memory. Confirm the exact release on the live CurseForge version list, generate the world with its final seed and options, and make a backup before accepting any later pack update.
