Compatibility and preparation
Supported Windows editions
- Windows 11, 64-bit, version 21H2 or newer.
- Windows 10, 64-bit, version 21H2 or newer.
The release notes do not list 32-bit Windows support. If Windows reports that your edition is unsupported, confirm the version by pressing Windows key + R, entering winver, and checking both the edition and version number.
Before you start
- Confirm that the card is seated correctly and that its PCIe power connectors are attached.
- Close games, overlays, monitoring utilities and other software that may use the GPU.
- Save open work. The display can flicker during installation and Windows may need to restart.
- Keep an internet connection available for the download and for Auto-Detect and Install.
- If this is an OEM desktop, all-in-one or notebook rather than a separately installed desktop card, check the computer maker’s driver page first. AMD recommends OEM-provided drivers when they are customized for system-specific features.
Manual download and installation
1. Open the exact AMD support page
Go to AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT Drivers and Downloads page. Do not select a similarly named RX 6700, RX 6700M or RX 6750 XT page; those products can have different packages.

2. Select your Windows version
Expand Windows 11 – 64-Bit Edition or Windows 10 – 64-Bit Edition. Review the release name, date, WHQL Recommended or Optional label and file size. If the page still displays 26.8.1 or 26.9.1 while AMD’s 26.9.2 release notes are available, treat the page listing as the download interface and verify the version shown on the installer before proceeding.

3. Download Adrenalin Edition
Select the download button for AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. The captured listings show approximately 942 MB for 26.8.1 and 941 MB for 26.9.1 and 26.9.2, so allow time for the complete package. Save it somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder, and avoid interrupting the transfer.
4. Start the installer
Open the downloaded executable, approve the Windows permission prompt and allow the installer to unpack its files. Read the license terms, then continue through the installation choices. Keep the default destination unless you have a specific storage reason to change it.
5. Choose the software installation
Install the Adrenalin software and display driver together if you want AMD’s control panel and configuration features. If the installer offers a minimal-driver choice, use it only when you deliberately want the display driver without the broader Radeon software interface. Do not shut down the computer while the screen resets.

7. Confirm the installed version
Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and use its system or software information panel to read the installed driver number. You can also open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, double-click AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, and inspect the Driver tab. The Device Manager number may use a Windows package format rather than the public Adrenalin version, so compare the complete details rather than only the first digits.
Using AMD Auto-Detect and Install
AMD describes Auto-Detect and Install as a utility that detects the AMD graphics-card model and the installed Microsoft Windows version, then offers the latest compatible official driver. The support-page listing shows a download of about 46 MB, and the utility requires an internet connection.
| Choice | Best for | Windows selection | Internet requirement | What you control |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual Adrenalin package | Readers who want the full Radeon software or a specific package | You explicitly choose Windows 10 or Windows 11 | Needed to download; the complete package can then be kept locally | Release label, package and installation timing |
| Auto-Detect and Install | Readers unsure which AMD product or Windows entry applies | The utility reads the installed Windows version | Required while it detects and downloads | Guided matching rather than manual selection |
AMD does not publish a benchmark showing that one method is faster or more reliable. Auto-Detect reduces the chance of selecting the wrong Radeon family, while the manual route gives you a local, identifiable package and explicit control over Windows 10 versus Windows 11.
Auto-Detect steps
- Open the RX 6700 XT support page and expand the Windows section.
- Download the AMD Auto-Detect and Install utility.
- Run it as an administrator and allow it to inspect the graphics card and Windows version.
- Review the compatible driver it presents. If the detected hardware is not an RX 6700 XT, stop and check the card and Device Manager before installing anything.
- Continue with the offered package, keep the display connected, and restart Windows when installation finishes.
What changed in Adrenalin 26.9.2?
AMD’s September 29, 2026 release notes list support for Minecraft Dungeons II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, Gears of War: E-Day, CONTROL Resonant and Valor Mortis. The notes also list selected fixes for timeout or freeze problems. Those changes matter most if you play one of these titles or are affected by a listed issue; updating does not guarantee a frame-rate increase or fix every game problem.

- Memory: 8GB GDDR6
- XFX SWFT Dual Fan Cooling Solution
- Boost Clock: Up to 2655 MHz
The 26.9.2 package is a dated release, not a promise that it will remain AMD’s newest package. AMD can publish a later optional or recommended build, so use the version and release notes shown on the live support page when you install.
Recommended versus optional drivers
WHQL Recommended
A WHQL Recommended entry is AMD’s general-purpose choice in the support listing. Use it when your system is stable and you prefer the release AMD presents as the main supported package.
Optional
An Optional entry can contain newer game support or fixes before those changes become the main recommended listing. It is reasonable for a newly released game or a problem addressed by the notes, but keep a record of the previous driver so you can roll back if the new package creates a problem.
Troubleshooting common installation problems
The installer says the operating system is unsupported
Run winver and confirm that Windows is 64-bit and at least version 21H2. Install pending Windows updates, restart, and try the package matching the actual edition. A 32-bit installation or an earlier Windows release is outside the compatibility stated for Adrenalin 26.9.2.

The RX 6700 XT is missing from Device Manager
Shut down the computer and check that the card is fully inserted, its auxiliary power connectors are attached, and the monitor cable is connected to the card rather than the motherboard. After booting, check Device Manager for Display adapters and Other devices. If the hardware is not detected at all, a driver reinstall alone cannot establish a connection; investigate seating, power, firmware or hardware faults.
The screen goes black or flickers during setup
Temporary flicker is expected while Windows switches display drivers. Wait for the installer to finish and restart. If the display remains unavailable after reboot, start Windows in Safe Mode, use Device Manager to return to the previous display driver, and retry the installation with unnecessary overlays and monitoring tools closed.
A game crashes after updating
First restart Windows and check the game’s own files and updates. Compare the installed Adrenalin version with the release notes to see whether your issue is among the listed fixes. If the problem began only after the update, use Device Manager’s driver rollback option or reinstall the last known stable AMD package you saved; do not install a package intended for a different Radeon model.
Recommended Free Tools
The installer repeatedly fails
- Restart Windows and make sure no previous AMD installer is still running.
- Temporarily close third-party hardware monitors, overclocking utilities and overlays.
- Download a fresh copy from AMD’s RX 6700 XT support page and verify that the file completed.
- Run the installer with administrator permission.
- If Windows still cannot complete setup, use Device Manager to record the current driver error and check Windows Update before attempting another package.
After installing a new card or changing Windows
AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT Quick-Start Guide says that a newly installed card needs the appropriate Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics driver and configuration software to use the card’s capabilities. The same guidance calls for reinstalling Radeon software after reinstalling or upgrading Windows. Therefore, repeat the download and installation after a major Windows reset or upgrade rather than assuming the old driver remains intact.
Keep the installer version, date and Windows edition in a note. That record makes it easier to identify which package was active if a later optional driver causes instability.
Quick Recap
As an optional shortcut, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan more than 100 devices for outdated, corrupted or missing drivers, install official drivers, show current and recommended versions, create driver backups, restore them and schedule scans. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, with a two-day free trial that requires no credit card before a subscription; results vary and no utility repairs every hardware problem.
