KytyPS5 and SharpEmu are experimental PS5 emulator projects, not dependable substitutes for a PlayStation 5. To judge whether either is relevant to a particular game, check that game’s status for the emulator’s exact build, then verify your PC’s operating system and Vulkan support. Their compatibility labels and documented features differ, and neither project’s published information establishes a reliable performance ranking.
How to compare PS5 emulators
Compatibility is specific to a game, emulator build, and host platform. A title marked “Playable” in one project’s database does not establish that it will run equally well in the other emulator—or on a different computer. Start with the exact game you want to run, then inspect the report’s build, platform, and notes about performance, graphics, audio, or crashes.
- Search the project’s compatibility information for the exact title.
- Check the report’s emulator build identifier and host operating system.
- Read the status and any notes; do not treat a boot or menu result as evidence of playable gameplay.
- If there is no recent report for that title and setup, treat compatibility as unknown.
SharpEmu maintains a title-level compatibility database. KytyPS5 links to a community compatibility list and warns that results can vary across versions.
Compatibility: what the current evidence shows
SharpEmu’s reported title statuses
On October 7, 2026, SharpEmu’s project-maintained database showed 76 tested titles out of 9,176 tracked. The project reported 24 as Playable, 12 Ingame, 6 Menus, 20 Boots, and 14 Nothing. These are reports associated with particular builds and platforms, not independent lab results or a guarantee for another user’s system. Some entries include caveats such as heavy performance demands, visual problems, or crashes. Check the live database because its counts and reports can change.

KytyPS5’s stated progress
KytyPS5 says it boots 2D games and a selection of 3D games, including titles built with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines. The project cautions that compatibility, stability, and speed vary by version; crashes and graphical glitches are possible.
One dated example should not be mistaken for a general benchmark: Tom’s Hardware reported on October 1, 2026, that a KytyPS5 build rendered gameplay in Marvel’s Wolverine at single-digit frame rates, while describing the result as far from playable for ordinary use. That demonstration does not predict performance in other games or on other computers.

System requirements and operating-system support
| Project | Operating systems and architecture | Graphics requirement | Other stated requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| KytyPS5 | Windows 10 version 1803 or later; a current Linux distribution; or macOS on Apple Silicon. Windows and Linux are its primary testing platforms. macOS is experimental: the x86-64 build runs under Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon, with Vulkan through MoltenVK. | GPU supporting Vulkan 1.3, with current drivers. | 64-bit x86 processor, or Apple Silicon running the x86-64 build through Rosetta 2. |
| SharpEmu | 64-bit Windows, Linux, or macOS; its downloads page describes Windows as the primary target. The macOS package includes MoltenVK. | Vulkan-capable GPU with an up-to-date driver; video output uses Vulkan, with MoltenVK on macOS. | Game dumps owned by the user. The downloads page does not state a detailed CPU, RAM, or named GPU minimum. |
These are the requirements the projects publish, not a guarantee that a system meeting them can run a particular title smoothly. Neither project’s cited pages provide a minimum CPU model, a RAM figure, a recommended GPU model, or a guaranteed frame rate. For a prospective graphics-card purchase, the evidence supports checking Vulkan compatibility and driver availability—not buying a particular model or upgrading without title-specific evidence.
Features and practical differences
SharpEmu
SharpEmu documents a desktop application with a game library that users point to their dump folders, settings, a log console, a built-in updater, and language options. It also offers command-line mode: the same binary can launch a game executable and provide logs. Its project describes the emulator as written from scratch in C# for research and education, with an early-development focus on accuracy and infrastructure.

KytyPS5
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source C++ project based on a heavily modified version of Kyty. Its reviewed project documentation emphasizes development status, supported platforms, requirements, and contribution and testing information. That documentation does not provide a feature-by-feature end-user interface inventory comparable to SharpEmu’s; the omission is not evidence that KytyPS5 lacks a particular feature.
Which emulator should you choose?
There is no verified, controlled head-to-head benchmark in the published material cited here. Choose based on the game and setup you care about, rather than a blanket claim that one emulator is faster or more compatible.
