PS5 error WS-115762-2 usually points to a temporary PlayStation Network maintenance or service-availability problem, especially when it appears with “We’re doing some maintenance on PlayStation Network right now. Please try again later.” It does not, by itself, show that your console hardware has failed.
Check Sony’s official PlayStation Network status page before changing settings, repeatedly restoring licenses, or buying networking equipment. If multiple users are reporting the same error, waiting for Sony is usually the correct response. If only your PS5 is affected and the status page is healthy, work through the local checks below.

What WS-115762-2 means
WS-115762-2 is generally reported alongside a PlayStation Network maintenance or service-availability message. Users have encountered it while signing in, opening the PlayStation Store, restoring licenses, checking digital-game entitlements, or launching games that need an online license check.
However, Sony does not currently publish a dedicated explanation for this exact code in its PS5 error-code index. That means its precise official meaning should not be treated as confirmed. The best-supported description is that it is consistent with a temporary PSN-side problem, not that Sony has formally documented the code as a specific outage code.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
If PSN cannot validate your account or game entitlement, the game files on the console may still be intact. The license check can fail simply because the relevant Sony service is unavailable.
Is PlayStation Network down right now?
Check the official PlayStation Service Status page first. Review each listed category:
- Account management
- Gaming and social
- PlayStation Store
- PlayStation Video
- PlayStation Direct
Record the result with the time zone and region—for example, “Checked September 9, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. IST.” Status changes quickly, and a page that is green now cannot prove that it was green when the error first appeared.
A green indicator is useful but not conclusive. A regional or partial incident, a recently resolved outage, or a delay in the status update can leave users seeing errors while the page reports normal operation. Conversely, a problem loading the status page does not automatically prove that your home internet is failing.
How to tell whether PSN or your network is responsible
| More consistent with a PSN problem | More consistent with a local problem |
|---|---|
| The same WS-115762-2 message is affecting users in multiple locations. | Only one PS5 is affected. |
| Sign-in, Store access, online play, and license restoration fail together. | Your PS5 fails its internet connection test. |
| Other devices use the same internet normally. | Other devices also have unstable internet. |
| The error began suddenly after PSN had been working. | The problem occurs only on Wi-Fi or one router. |
| Switching networks does not change the result. | The console works over Ethernet or a mobile hotspot. |
Community reports have associated this exact code and maintenance wording with users in several countries, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, and Austria. That is evidence of a reported multi-region pattern, not proof of the incident’s exact geographic scope or root cause. You can review those reports on Reddit, but Sony’s status page remains the primary source for service information.

What to do first
1. Stop repeatedly restoring licenses
If the error appeared during license restoration, repeated attempts are unlikely to repair an active PSN maintenance event. Check service status first and wait if Sony’s services are impaired.
2. Restart the PS5 normally
- Press the PS button.
- Open the power menu.
- Select Power > Restart PS5.
A normal restart is preferable to unplugging the console while it is running.
3. Test the PS5’s connection
Open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Menu wording can vary slightly with system-software revisions.
- Internet connection fails: investigate Wi-Fi, the router, modem, or your internet provider.
- Internet works but PSN sign-in fails: suspect PSN availability, authentication, or an account-specific issue.
- PSN works but one game fails: check that game’s publisher and server status rather than assuming PSN is down.
4. Restart the router or modem
Power off the router or modem, wait about 60 seconds, restore power, and allow it to reconnect. Then run the PS5 connection test again. This can fix a local network problem, but it cannot restore a confirmed Sony-side outage.
5. Try Ethernet or another network
If possible, connect the PS5 directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. You can also test briefly through a mobile hotspot, taking data usage and carrier restrictions into account. If the console works on another network, the original Wi-Fi or router becomes the more likely cause.

6. Check for system software updates
Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Sony’s error-code documentation recommends current system software for some related errors, but Sony does not list an update as a confirmed fix for WS-115762-2 specifically.
7. Restore licenses after PSN appears healthy
Once the relevant PSN services appear operational, try:
Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses > Restore
Restoring licenses is relevant when digital games or add-on content cannot verify ownership. It does not delete installed games and is not guaranteed to fix an active outage. It is best treated as a post-outage entitlement refresh, not a cure for server maintenance.
8. Contact PlayStation Support
If the problem continues after PSN services are operating normally, use the official PlayStation Support hub or Sony’s PlayStation Repairs service. Include:

Use this decision tree
If the official status page shows an outage
Stop changing console settings and wait for Sony to restore the affected service. Check periodically, but do not factory-reset the PS5, delete your account, rebuild its database, or replace your router for a confirmed PSN incident.
If the page is green but many users report the same error
Treat the situation as a possible partial, regional, or recently resolved PSN issue. Restart the PS5 once, run the connection test, and recheck later. A 15–30 minute recheck is a practical interval, not an official Sony recovery promise.
If only your console is affected
Restart the PS5, test the connection, restart the router, try Ethernet or another network, install available system software, and restore licenses after PSN appears healthy. Contact Sony if the error remains isolated to your account or console.
If only one game is affected
Check the game’s own server status, install its updates, and confirm whether it uses a separate account service. One game failing does not establish that PlayStation Network is down.

What not to do
- Do not factory-reset the PS5 for a maintenance message.
- Do not delete your user account or digital games.
- Do not repeatedly restore licenses while PSN is unavailable.
- Do not change DNS settings unless you have a separate, demonstrated DNS problem.
- Do not buy a router or other hardware before confirming that the issue is local.
- Do not assume PlayStation Plus will fix the error. A subscription may be required for online multiplayer in many paid games, but it cannot repair PSN maintenance or failed license validation.
Why different websites show different error codes
Check the characters on your PS5 carefully. WS-115762-2, WS-116762-2, and WS-115752-2 are not interchangeable codes.

One widely indexed third-party report uses WS-115762-2 in its headline, WS-116762-2 repeatedly in the article text, and WS-115752-2 in its URL. That inconsistency is a transcription or indexing problem, not evidence that the three strings describe the same error. If you contact support, quote the exact code shown on your console and, if possible, provide a screenshot.
Bottom line
WS-115762-2 is usually a wait-and-check situation when it appears with a PSN maintenance message. Verify Sony’s status page, compare reports from other users, and avoid drastic repairs. If PSN is healthy and the issue affects only your PS5, use the connection test, restart the network, try Ethernet or another connection, update the console, and then restore licenses. Escalate to PlayStation Support only after those checks and after confirming the exact code.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is WS-115762-2 a permanent PS5 problem?
Usually not. Reports associate it with temporary PSN maintenance or service availability, although Sony does not currently publish a dedicated definition for this exact code.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can I play games offline while this error appears?
Possibly. Offline access depends on the game, whether it requires online servers, and whether the console has already validated the digital license. A console that is not enabled for the account’s offline play may have fewer offline options during a sign-in or licensing problem.
Does restoring licenses delete my games?
No. Restore Licenses refreshes entitlement information and does not remove installed games or add-ons. Run it after PSN services appear healthy rather than repeatedly during an outage.
Should I change DNS settings?
Not as a first response. DNS changes are not a documented fix for WS-115762-2 and are unlikely to help when Sony’s services are unavailable.
When should I contact Sony?
Contact PlayStation Support if the official services are operating, the error affects only your console or account, and it remains after restarting, testing the connection, trying another network, updating the PS5, and restoring licenses.
