If your PS5 power cord is lost or damaged, look for a replacement AC power cord that explicitly fits your exact console model and has the correct wall plug for your country. Sony’s current setup and safety guidance explains how the cord connects and how to use it safely, but does not specify a universal third-party connector standard or compatibility list. This guidance was verified as of October 4, 2026; “2022” in the original title does not indicate that the information or product availability dates to 2022.
How the PS5 power cord connects
Sony’s setup instructions say to connect the included AC power cable to the AC IN connector on the rear of the PS5, then connect the power plug to an electricity supply. Sony does not identify a replacement connector standard or publish a universal third-party compatibility list in the reviewed setup and safety pages. Do not assume that a cord fits just because it looks similar.
What to check before buying a replacement
Search for a PS5 replacement AC power cord, then verify the details on the individual product listing. These are practical checks, not specifications established by Sony’s reviewed pages.
- Exact console fit: Check that the seller names your specific PS5 model. If you are unsure of the model, find it on the console before ordering.
- Wall-plug type: Make sure the plug matches the outlets used in your country. Do not rely on a listing that only shows the console-side connection.
- Electrical and cable details: Review the rating and construction information disclosed by the seller; the reviewed Sony pages do not establish a third-party replacement rating.
- Length: Choose a length that reaches your outlet without stretching or creating a trip hazard.
- Seller and returns: Check the seller’s return terms in case the cable does not fit your console or wall outlet.
- OEM or third-party: Confirm whether the cord is an original Sony part or a third-party product. A listing’s fit claim is not a Sony endorsement.
Important safety guidance
Sony’s CFI-2015 safety guide says to use the included AC power cord and not to use a cord that is damaged or modified. It warns against using a voltage transformer or inverter with the AC power cord, including for overseas travel or vehicle use, because this may cause heat build-up, burns, or malfunction. Keep the cord away from heat and places where it could be pinched.

“Do not use a power cord other than the included AC power cord.”
That is Sony’s wording in the CFI-2015 PS5 Safety Guide. It is not an approval of third-party replacement cords.

Before connecting the cord, check the plugs, connectors, and console AC IN port for dust or small particles. When disconnecting it, hold the plug and pull straight out; do not pull on the cord.

A console that loses power or will not start does not necessarily have a faulty cord. Sony directs users with these symptoms to its PS5 power-issues troubleshooting and PlayStation Repairs diagnostics, including a warranty-eligibility check. Follow that diagnostic path rather than treating a replacement cable as a confirmed fix.
