Sony’s advice is to keep the vents clear, use a handheld vacuum to remove dust, and—when needed—remove the covers as instructed and vacuum the dust beneath them. If you use a third-party filter, treat any performance claims as unverified unless supported by independent testing specific to PS5 Pro.
Do dust filters help a PS5 Pro?
Sony’s published PS5 Pro materials do not test aftermarket filters or quantify their effect on airflow, temperatures, or dust buildup. That means there is no sound basis here for saying a filter improves cooling—or that every filter harms it. The practical, manufacturer-backed approach is to keep the console’s vents unobstructed and clean dust as Sony instructs.
Sony’s teardown describes airflow openings at the rear and bottom, three new airflow slits, and a top-side dust catcher intended to make cleaning easier. Shinya Tsuchida, PS5 Pro Mechanical Design Lead, said: “On the top side, just like in previous PS5 models, a dust catcher is provided for cleaning purposes.” He also noted that the console “requires more air to cool it down.” These statements explain the design; they are not tests of add-on filters or evidence of a particular temperature or airflow effect. If you are considering a filter, check that the listing explicitly supports PS5 Pro and determine whether it covers an intake or exhaust opening. Also check how it attaches and can be cleaned. Claims about cooling or protection need independent, model-specific measurements to be established.

How should you clean dust from a PS5 Pro?
Sony’s PS5 Pro Safety Guide (CFI-70XX, Australia) recommends a handheld vacuum for dust on the vents and for dust beneath the covers. Disconnect the AC power cord before cleaning. The cover-removal instructions say to let the console cool first; use Sony’s PS5 Pro Console Covers instructions if you need to remove them.

- Turn off the console and unplug it. Disconnect the AC power cord before cleaning. If removing covers, let the console cool first.
- Check its placement. Leave at least 10 cm between the console and a wall. Keep it out of cramped spaces, off long-fibre rugs, and uncovered by cloth. Make sure nothing blocks the vents. The 10 cm distance is Sony’s setup instruction, not a measured cooling-performance threshold.
- Vacuum the vents. Use a handheld vacuum to remove visible dust buildup. Sony does not require a particular brand.
- Clean beneath the covers if needed. Follow Sony’s cover-removal instructions, vacuum dust trapped underneath, then refit the covers before turning the console on. Sony says not to use the console without its covers.
- Wipe the exterior. Use a soft, dry cloth on the plastic. Sony warns against insecticides, volatile substances such as paint thinner, benzene, and alcohol, and chemically treated cloths.
What not to do
- Do not block vents or cover the console with fabric.
- Do not open the chassis or disassemble or modify the console. Sony says there are no user-serviceable components inside.
- Do not use the console with its covers removed.
- Do not apply solvents, insecticides, or chemically treated cloths to the exterior.
