1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSony has not announced a PS6 release date or price. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has offered 2028 as his personal estimate, while separate reporting says Sony has considered a 2028 or 2029 launch. Neither is an official release window, and no exact launch day or month is established.
Has Sony confirmed the PS6 release date?
No. In a May 2026 investor Q&A, Sony said it had not decided when to launch its next console or what it would cost. The company cited memory supply and prices expected to remain challenging through fiscal year 2027 as considerations in its planning, but that does not establish that a launch has been delayed. Sony’s reported investor-Q&A position.
That is the clearest answer to “When is the PS6 coming out?”: the date is unknown. Any year currently discussed is a forecast or reported possibility, not a confirmed Sony schedule.
What are the PS6 release date predictions?
| Scenario | What the source says | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 | Earlier launch scenario referenced in reporting about a possible move to a later year. PC Gamer’s report relaying Bloomberg; GamesRadar’s report on Embracer’s comments. | Not confirmed; Sony has not announced a year. |
| 2028 | Yoshida said, “If the next PlayStation comes out in 2028, that feels right to me.” He also said he had no information about the next console and considered 2027 too early. Tom’s Guide’s coverage of Yoshida’s comments. | His personal forecast, not a disclosed Sony plan. |
| 2028 or 2029 | PC Gamer relayed Bloomberg reporting that Sony was considering a debut in 2028 or even 2029, citing people familiar with Sony’s thinking. Embracer Group separately said some analysts thought Sony might push a debut from 2027 to 2028 or 2029. PC Gamer; GamesRadar. | Reported possibilities and analyst views, not a finalized delay. |
Why are 2028 and 2029 being discussed?
Memory supply and pricing are cited as planning considerations. Sony said those conditions could remain challenging through fiscal year 2027; Bloomberg-based reporting and Embracer’s discussion also point to component costs, with Embracer mentioning RAM costs and US tariff volatility. These factors help explain why later launch scenarios are being discussed, but the available statements do not quantify a delay or show that Sony has approved one. How much confidence should you put in each forecast?
- Yoshida’s 2028 estimate: A named former PlayStation executive’s personal judgment. He explicitly said he lacked inside information, so it should not be treated as a leak or Sony guidance. Tom’s Guide.
- The 2028–2029 scenario: Anonymous-source reporting about what Sony was considering, plus an analyst view described by Embracer. That is meaningful reporting, but it does not prove a final decision. PC Gamer; GamesRadar.
- A specific month or day: No exact launch date is supported by these statements. A precise date would be speculation.
What should prospective PS6 buyers do?
If you are deciding whether to buy a console now or wait, treat 2027 as an earlier possibility and 2028–2029 as plausible later scenarios—not as a reliable countdown. Sony’s timing and pricing remain undecided in the reported May 2026 statement. For a purchase decision, base it on the games and budget you have now rather than an unannounced launch date.
Because console timing can change, check for a newer Sony announcement before making plans around a particular year.
