What happened during the July 24 PSN outage?
The disruption extended beyond online multiplayer. GameSpot reported problems across account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct. The reports do not establish how many players were affected.
During the incident, the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls developer account said it was investigating login and network issues and working to identify the cause. GameSpot also quoted a PlayStation status message: “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.” Neither statement identified a cause.
Was PSN back online, and how long did recovery take?
Recovery was not reported as a single, simultaneous return across every service. Game Informer’s July 24 update at 2:37 p.m. ET said most services were back after roughly eight hours of disruption, while the PlayStation Store was still experiencing issues. Later that day, GameSpot reported that the network appeared restored, while noting that individual experiences could vary.

That roughly eight-hour figure describes the outage as characterized in Game Informer’s update; it is not a precise downtime measurement for every user, region or feature. “Appeared restored” also does not establish that every player could connect at the same moment.
Is PSN down right now?
For the current status, use Sony’s official service status page, which changes over time and can show differences by service or region. In the page snapshot checked October 8, 2026, gaming and social, PlayStation Video and PlayStation Store were listed as running; account management showed a web Create Account issue starting at 12:08 a.m. The page also displayed an external internet-wide issues notice. Those entries describe that snapshot, not a guarantee of conditions when you read this.

What to do if you still cannot connect
- Check Sony’s live status page. Look for the affected service and any regional details before troubleshooting your console.
- If the status is clear, try again later. Sony’s guidance for error CE-108877-1 recommends checking PSN status and trying again after a few hours if the issue is temporary.
- Recheck the service before making changes. A platform-side problem may persist for some users after services begin returning, so a connection error alone does not establish that your console needs repair.
