A completely empty battery takes approximately 2.5 hours to charge, and a 10-minute charge is specified to provide about two hours of use. For a PS5, the included PlayStation Link USB adapter is pre-paired: insert it into a powered USB-A port, press the headset’s PS Link button, and wait for the indicators to show a connection.
Most connection failures come from an unpowered or poorly inserted adapter, an expired 30-second search window, outdated headset or adapter software, or a pairing state that needs to be reset. The procedures below separate a normal restart from the more destructive option that erases pairings and audio settings.

How long does the PULSE Elite battery last?
Sony rates the headset for up to 30 hours while playing audio and chatting through PlayStation Link and Bluetooth connections. That figure is a manufacturer specification measured at 77°F (25°C), not an independent endurance test, so an individual headset can deliver less runtime depending on volume, microphone use, wireless conditions, temperature, and battery age.

Charging with the included cable
- Connect the included charging cable to a compatible, powered USB-A port.
- Attach the other end to the headset’s charging port.
- Watch for the status indicator to slowly blink orange. That pattern means charging is in progress.
- When charging finishes, the indicator turns off.
You can use the headset while it remains connected to the USB device. The port must provide power; a passive or switched-off USB connection will not charge the battery.
Charging while the PS5 is in Rest Mode
The PS5 can supply power during Rest Mode only when the console’s relevant USB-power feature is enabled. If the headset does not charge while the console sleeps, turn on the PS5 setting that keeps USB ports powered in Rest Mode, then reconnect the cable. Sony’s support instructions do not establish a universal default for that setting, so check the current power-saving options on your console.
Optional charging hanger
The PULSE Elite charging hanger is another documented way to charge the headset. It is an optional accessory, not a requirement for normal USB charging.

On a PS5, you can also open the Control Center and select Accessories to view the headset’s battery level. The console display is useful when you need a continuous estimate instead of waiting for the headset’s flash pattern.
How do I connect PULSE Elite to a PS5?
The included PlayStation Link USB adapter is already paired with the headset for the initial PS5 setup. You do not need to create a Bluetooth pairing for this connection.
- Turn on the PS5.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter fully into a powered USB Type-A port on the console.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button.
- Wait while the headset searches. The indicator blinks blue during the search; solid indicators mean it has connected.
The search lasts 30 seconds. If no available connection is found, the headset turns off. Press the PS Link button again to start another search. If the headset repeatedly times out, confirm that the console is on and that the adapter is fully seated in a powered port before trying again.

Which other devices can use PULSE Elite?
The connection method depends on the host device and the wireless transport. PlayStation Link uses a compatible USB adapter or other supported PlayStation Link device; Bluetooth uses the headset’s Bluetooth radio and does not use the PlayStation Link adapter.

Bluetooth pairing on a mobile device
- On the mobile device, open Bluetooth settings and start a search for nearby devices.
- Press and hold the headset’s PS Link button for approximately eight seconds.
- Release it when the status indicator rapidly blinks blue; that is the Bluetooth pairing state.
- Select the PULSE Elite in the mobile device’s Bluetooth list and complete the pairing prompt.
The available Bluetooth controls depend on the mobile operating system. Sony’s guidance for this headset does not establish simultaneous audio from Bluetooth and PlayStation Link, so do not assume that both transports can play audio at once.
Using PULSE Elite on PS4
Sony says compatible PlayStation Link devices can be set up on PS4 with the USB adapter. The PS4 has specific limitations: it does not provide the headset’s battery-level display, and audio controls such as equalizer, sidetone, and 3D audio are unavailable there. A successful wireless connection therefore does not imply feature parity with PS5.
How do I update the PULSE Elite headset?
Update from a PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Accessories.
- Choose Headset.
- Open PS Link Device Software Update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the headset and the connected PlayStation Link adapter.
Sony also distributes PlayStation Link updates through PS5 system-software updates. Keeping the console current can therefore add device software without a separate manual download.

On a Windows PC, Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver can update both the PULSE Elite headset and its adapter. Connect the adapter and headset as directed by the driver, then allow the update to finish before disconnecting either device. The supplied documentation does not provide a current firmware-number list, so the important check is whether the driver reports that each device is current.

PS Link 2.0 requirement
For connection troubleshooting involving PS Link 2.0, Sony says both the headset and the included adapter should run software version 2.0 or newer. Updating only one side can leave the pair incompatible. If the problem started after moving between consoles or computers, update both devices and pair them again.

Use this sequence from least disruptive to most disruptive. It preserves your settings for as long as possible.
1. Check power and the adapter
- Turn on the PS5 or computer.
- Insert the PlayStation Link adapter completely into a compatible, powered USB port.
- On a PS5, prefer a direct USB Type-A connection rather than an unpowered hub.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button and allow the full search period.
If the headset has already shut down after its 30-second search, press the button again. A blue blinking indicator means it is still looking; solid indicators mean the link is established.

2. Update both ends of the link
Install available headset and adapter software updates. On PS5, use Settings > Accessories > Headset > PS Link Device Software Update. On Windows, use the PlayStation Link PC Driver. For PS Link 2.0 issues, confirm that both devices are on version 2.0 or newer, then pair them again.

3. Perform a normal headset reset
Hold the headset’s PS Link button for at least 10 seconds, until the headset powers off. Press the button once to turn it on again and retry the connection. Sony says this reset does not remove PS Link or Bluetooth pairings and does not erase audio settings, making it the appropriate next step when you want to preserve your configuration.
4. Reset only after the earlier steps fail
If a normal reset does not help, the separate pairing-wipe procedure can delete all headset pairings and audio settings. You will need to pair the headset again afterward. Use it only when you are prepared to rebuild those connections.
5. Reset the adapter separately
With the adapter connected to a powered, matching USB port, hold its reset button for 30 seconds. This is independent of the headset reset. Afterward, reconnect and pair the adapter and headset again using the normal PlayStation Link procedure.

Choose the least destructive action that matches the symptom. A normal reset is intended for a stalled headset; a pairing wipe is for a corrupted or unwanted pairing database; an adapter reset is for an adapter that remains unrecognized after port, power, and software checks.
Why is the headset popping after humidity?
Sony notes that high humidity can allow moisture to develop on the headset drivers. That moisture may cause occasional popping even when the headset is powered off. This is Sony’s troubleshooting explanation, not a guaranteed diagnosis for every popping sound.
- Turn the headset off.
- Place it in a well-ventilated area for 10–15 minutes.
- Try audio again after that ventilation period.
Do not treat the short ventilation step as proof that the hardware is permanently repaired. If popping continues, repeat the basic connection and update checks and consult current manufacturer support for the next service option.
A practical checklist before contacting support
- Confirm the headset has enough charge; rapid red blinks indicate an empty battery.
- Confirm the PS5 or computer is powered on and the adapter is fully inserted.
- Press the PS Link button and retry if the 30-second search timed out.
- Install updates for both headset and adapter, especially when troubleshooting PS Link 2.0.
- Try the 10-second headset reset before deleting pairings.
- Use the pairing wipe only when you accept losing saved pairings and audio settings.
- Reset the adapter with its 30-second hold if the adapter itself remains unresponsive.
- For humidity-related popping, power off and ventilate for 10–15 minutes.
These steps cover the documented PULSE Elite battery, connection, software, and indicator behavior. Actual runtime for a particular unit, current firmware release numbers, inventory, and independent performance results are not established by Sony’s support specifications.
