Roger Jr. is an upcoming TEKKEN 8 DLC fighter, so a complete, verified command list and tested combo catalogue do not exist yet. The published preview does establish his intended game plan: close the distance with a short-range character, use Rocket Stance and Astronauts to create layered decisions, and mix powerful throws into pressure. Bobbin Dance adds a Heat-only high/mid gamble, but it consumes much of the Heat timer. This guide separates confirmed information from details that must wait for release and direct gameplay testing.

Release status, platforms, and what this guide can verify

Bandai Namco has announced Roger Jr. as a Season 3 character under the nickname “Pocket Commander.” In North America, Season Pass 3 holders are scheduled for early access on November 12, 2026, followed by general availability on November 17, 2026. Those are publisher-announced North American dates; do not assume the early-access timing is identical in every region. The announcement lists TEKKEN 8 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. See the North American announcement for the release wording and platform information.

Until the character is playable, exact inputs, frame data, launcher punishers, damage values, wall routes, and reliable combo notation are not established by the available material. The October 11 development-team preview names attacks and describes their properties, but it is not a complete command list or lab-tested guide. Treat the strategy below as a practical preview rather than a finished tournament reference.

Roger Jr.’s identity and core game plan

The official character profile lists Roger Jr.’s fighting style as Commando Wrestling. The development team describes him as a close-range specialist whose short reach is offset by stance variety and powerful throws. Their stated plan is to get inside, force the opponent to make repeated high-risk defensive choices, and keep the pace aggressive. The team summarizes that approach this way: “The basic game plan is to make up for short reach with strength at close range.” Read the full TEKKEN development-team gameplay overview and the Roger Jr. character profile.

  • Arcade Quest - In the new single-player mode ‘Arcade Quest’, players can create their own avatar and conquer their rivals in a variety of different arcades. This mode serves as an introduction to the gameplay of TEKKEN 8, allowing players to acquire basic knowledge, learn practical techniques, and enjoy a unique storyline and battles different from regular matches. .

The same preview says his controls are simple for beginners to pick up while his mind games provide depth. That is the developers’ description, not an independent assessment of execution difficulty or competitive strength. In practical terms, a new player should learn the decisions around each stance before worrying about an enormous move list.

Confirmed moves and stances

System What the preview confirms What is not yet published
Rocket Stance Can be entered from relatively low-risk moves; supports selected lows and throws with simplified inputs. Wind-up Low Kick is named as an example. Whirling Punishment and Uluru Hurricane Bomb are highlighted options. Exact entry commands, button notation, frame data, ranges, damage, and the complete list of stance attacks.
Astronauts Certain moves that hit send Roger Jr. upward into the stance. It has powerful follow-ups, advantage-preserving options on block, Heat Engagers, and an unbreakable throw. Milky Way and Space Slam are named examples. The exact “big moves” that enter it, inputs, frame advantage, throw conditions, and combo routes.
Bobbin Dance Available through Heat-only transitions. It presents an unblockable high versus a mid; the mid leads to an air combo on hit. The choices use a large amount of remaining Heat time. Inputs, timing, exact combo route, damage, and how the interaction changes against different defensive options.

Rocket Stance: the first concept to learn

The development team calls Rocket Stance a cornerstone of Roger Jr.’s offense. Its important beginner feature is access: the team says it can be reached from relatively low-risk moves rather than only from a slow, obvious commitment. Once in Rocket, Roger Jr. can threaten selected low attacks and throws with simplified inputs. Wind-up Low Kick is the named low example, while Whirling Punishment and Uluru Hurricane Bomb are the highlighted throw choices.

That description suggests a simple decision tree. If the opponent stands still, a low can challenge their guard. If they crouch to anticipate the low, the stance’s throws become more attractive. If they attack during the transition, the safety of the specific entry matters; the preview does not provide the frame data needed to declare any entry universally safe. Do not convert “relatively low-risk” into “unpunishable.” Check every transition in Practice mode after release.

The source also says the throws use simplified inputs. This tells beginners that the stance is designed to make the choice accessible; it does not reveal the actual commands or guarantee that every throw has the same range, break, or reward. Wait for the in-game move list before memorizing notation.

Astronauts: stronger payoff, stricter access

Astronauts is the more committed stance. Certain moves that connect launch Roger Jr. upward into it, and the team specifically says the stance can only be entered from “big moves.” That restriction is the trade-off for its stronger collection of follow-ups: powerful attacks, options that retain advantage when blocked, Heat Engagers, and an unbreakable throw. Milky Way and Space Slam are the named examples.

For a beginner, think of Astronauts as a reward state rather than the place to start every exchange. First learn which confirmed hits actually enter it. Then identify one safe or advantage-preserving follow-up, one option that beats a likely crouch or stand response, and the unbreakable throw. The preview does not establish which move fills each role, so label these only after testing the released command list.

The developers describe Astronauts as decisive once entered, while acknowledging that its entry requirement is a weakness. This makes it a natural second layer of the game plan: Rocket Stance helps create close-range decisions from more accessible situations; Astronauts turns a successful big hit into a more forceful sequence.

Throws: pressure without invented notation

Whirling Punishment is described as a powerful throw, and Uluru Hurricane Bomb is also highlighted in the Rocket Stance discussion. The available source does not state their break types, startup, range, damage, wall interaction, or whether either throw has special conditions. Those details should not be filled in from an older Roger character or from another wrestler. Use the names as a checklist for post-release testing, not as a substitute for verified commands.

Heat, Bobbin Dance, and the resource decision

Heat changes Roger Jr.’s pressure by adding transitions into Bobbin Dance as well as Goo Goo Rush Straight and Goo Goo Rush Upper, which the team presents as a high/mid mind game. The Heat Smash is described as retaining advantage on block and transitioning to Astronauts. Named attacks associated with the Heat discussion include Heartwarming Sweeper, Tasmanian Express, Windmill Punch, and Galaxy Uppercut.

Bobbin Dance is the part that needs the most resource discipline. Its high option is described as unblockable, while its mid option leads to an air combo on hit. That sounds powerful, but the developers explicitly warn that the sequence consumes a large amount of the remaining Heat time. The correct beginner question is therefore not “Can I always enter Bobbin Dance?” but “Will this decision pay off before my Heat expires?” If the opponent is already near the wall, has limited health, or has shown a predictable response, the gamble may be more valuable; otherwise, preserving Heat for a simpler advantage sequence may be preferable. Those are strategic principles, not a claim about frame advantage or expected damage.

Because Heat Smash is said to retain advantage on block and transition to Astronauts, it deserves separate testing from Bobbin Dance. Compare the value of spending Heat immediately with the value of keeping the timer for a later Bobbin Dance attempt. The preview provides the properties and the resource warning, but no numerical Heat duration or damage figures.

Beginner strategy: a practical learning order

1. Solve the range problem first

Roger Jr.’s short reach is the central limitation identified by the developers. He is not presented as the character to choose when you want a quick, long-reaching check from far away. Begin by learning how to approach without swinging blindly: move into the range where his close tools can matter, observe the opponent’s response, and avoid treating every neutral exchange as an invitation to force a stance.

Since the preview gives no verified neutral-button list, use the released move list to mark attacks by purpose rather than by reputation: one approach tool, one fast interruption, one mid that discourages crouching, and one move that can enter Rocket Stance. Record the exact input and test its recovery before using it in matches.

2. Build a Rocket Stance decision tree

  1. Choose one confirmed, relatively low-risk entry and verify how it behaves on hit, block, and whiff.
  2. From Rocket Stance, test Wind-up Low Kick and the named throws separately. Note which defensive responses each one challenges; do not assume the low and throws share identical timing.
  3. Use the stance only long enough to make the opponent respect a choice. If they begin attacking the transition, return to neutral and test a different entry rather than repeating it.
  4. Once the opponent starts crouching for the low, use the throw option; once they stand or break the throw consistently, reintroduce the low or exit the stance.

This is a framework for organizing the confirmed tools, not a claim that any particular entry is safe. The exact answers belong in the released command list and training data.

  • With a variety of single-player content, such as the all-new Arcade Quest mode and a comprehensive customization system for characters and avatars, TEKKEN 8 offers the most exciting experience yet.

3. Add Astronauts after you can confirm the entry

Do not begin by memorizing every Astronauts option. First identify the “big moves” that can enter the stance and practice recognizing a successful hit. Then select a small set of follow-ups: one powerful attack, one block-tested advantage option, one Heat Engager, and the unbreakable throw if the move list confirms their conditions. Astronauts should feel like a reward for a confirmed opening, not a stance you enter randomly while out of range.

4. Spend Heat deliberately

In early matches, decide before activating Heat what you want it to accomplish. If the plan is Bobbin Dance, watch the remaining timer and avoid spending the whole window on a low-probability guess. If the plan is Heat Smash into Astronauts, verify the block advantage and transition in Practice mode, then compare that route with the Bobbin Dance threat. The developers’ warning about the large Heat-time cost is the key beginner constraint.

5. Add throws to make the opponent move

Throws are not an isolated gimmick in the preview; they are part of how Roger Jr. compensates for short reach once he is close. Use them after you have shown a mid or low so the opponent has a reason to hesitate. Avoid claiming a throw is unbreakable unless the source or in-game testing confirms it: the preview specifically calls an Astronauts throw unbreakable, but it does not apply that description to every named throw.

What is known about combos—and what is not

The only combo-adjacent statement in the published material is that the Bobbin Dance mid leads to an air combo on hit. No input, launcher condition, route, damage, wall carry, or ender is supplied. That single description is enough to identify the move’s purpose, but not enough to publish a usable combo recipe.

There is currently no verified beginner combo route from these sources. Do not import Roger moves from earlier TEKKEN games and present them as TEKKEN 8 data; the stance structure and commands may differ. Exact command-list and combo coverage should be added only after Roger Jr. is playable and the routes have been checked directly in the released game.

How to verify combos after release

  1. Open the in-game move list and record the exact input for the launcher, Rocket entry, Astronauts entry, and Bobbin Dance mid.
  2. In Practice mode, test the route against a standing opponent, then against different weights or wake-up states if the game exposes those settings.
  3. Check whether the route works from the stated starter, whether counter-hit or wall conditions are required, and whether Heat is active.
  4. Measure practical consistency before publishing damage or wall-carry claims: repeat the route from both player sides and after a short delay.
  5. Document the ender, oki position, and resource cost separately. A route that does more damage may leave less advantage or spend Heat that would be better saved.

Common beginner mistakes and corrections

Mistake Why it hurts Correction
Trying to play from long range Short reach makes distant poking less central to the announced plan. Use movement and a verified approach tool to reach close range before starting stance pressure.
Treating every Rocket entry as safe “Relatively low-risk” is not the same as unpunishable, and no frame data is published yet. Test each entry on block and after a whiff; vary the timing instead of repeating one transition.
Entering Astronauts without a confirmed big hit The stance is restricted to specific big moves. Learn the actual entry list and practice hit-confirm recognition first.
Spending all Heat on Bobbin Dance automatically The developers warn that Bobbin Dance consumes a large amount of remaining Heat time. Compare the high/mid gamble with Heat Smash or a simpler advantage sequence before committing.
Publishing or memorizing unverified combos The preview supplies no notation, damage, or route conditions. Wait for the released move list and test every route directly in the game.

A release-day checklist

  • Confirm your regional access date and platform version.
  • Capture the complete command list for Rocket Stance, Astronauts, Heat transitions, and Bobbin Dance.
  • Test the named moves: Wind-up Low Kick, Whirling Punishment, Uluru Hurricane Bomb, Milky Way, Space Slam, Goo Goo Rush Straight, Goo Goo Rush Upper, Heat Smash, Heartwarming Sweeper, Tasmanian Express, Windmill Punch, and Galaxy Uppercut.
  • Record which moves enter each stance on hit, block, counter-hit, or only under Heat.
  • Check throw breaks, ranges, damage, wall behavior, and whether the Astronauts throw is always unbreakable or conditional.
  • Build one stable no-Heat combo, one Astronauts conversion, and one Bobbin Dance conversion only after repeated testing.
  • Reassess the resource trade-off: compare spending Heat on Bobbin Dance with preserving the timer for Heat Smash into Astronauts.

Bottom line for beginners

Roger Jr.’s confirmed identity is a close-range, stance-driven wrestler who uses throws to make opponents hesitate. Rocket Stance is the most accessible starting point because the developers say it can come from relatively low-risk moves and offers simplified low and throw choices. Astronauts is the higher-payoff stance, but only after specific big moves connect. Bobbin Dance is a Heat-only gamble with an unblockable high, a mid that leads to an air combo, and a substantial Heat-time cost.

That is enough to plan your first week of practice, but not enough to publish exact commands, frame data, or a finished combo guide. Treat the current material as a roadmap, then verify every input and route in the released TEKKEN 8 build before relying on it in ranked play.
