qjson.dll is an application file, not a standard Windows component. If Windows says qjson.dll is missing, the safest fix is to identify the program that requested it and repair or reinstall that program.
Do not download a random copy into System32 or SysWOW64. Different applications may use different QJson builds, filenames, architectures, Qt dependencies, or vendor modifications.

What qjson.dll belongs to
QJson is an open-source JSON library used by Qt applications. The original project documents a Windows build that produces libqjson.dll, while individual vendors may rename, modify, or package the library differently.
Historically, applications associated with a file named qjson.dll include Nokia Suite, Autodesk software, and older Qt-based games such as Warzone 2100. That association does not identify the responsible program on your computer. The application shown in the error is the important clue.

Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
This is the fix most likely to work.
Find which program needs the file
- Read the title bar and full error message.
- Check the shortcut you used:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field.
- If the program opens briefly, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and note its executable name.
- Check Event Viewer if the message does not identify the application:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs and select Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Record the faulting application and faulting module.
Do not assume the file belongs to Windows because the message appeared on Windows. Look for the application’s own folder, such as a program directory under C:Program Files or C:Program Files (x86).
Use the application’s repair option
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps on Windows 11. On Windows 10, select Apps and then Apps & features.
- Find the program that produced the error.
- Select the three-dot menu, or select the program and choose Advanced options if available.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch the application again.
Some desktop programs provide their own maintenance tool instead:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Repair or Change if the option is available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
A successful repair normally restores the application’s original DLL set without changing unrelated Windows files. If the error remains, continue with a complete reinstall.
Fix 2: Reinstall the exact application
Use this path when repair is unavailable, the application was partly deleted, or the problem began after disk cleanup, an update, backup restoration, or a failed uninstall.
- Back up the application’s documents, saved games, profiles, or exported settings if needed.
- Uninstall the affected application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the application again using its official installer, launcher, or vendor-provided package.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator if the normal installation fails.
- Start the program from its newly created shortcut.
For an application with a launcher, use its Repair, Verify files, or equivalent command before uninstalling. Reinstall the complete application rather than copying only qjson.dll.
This matters because a replacement DLL can require a matching Qt runtime, compiler configuration, export set, or application architecture. Autodesk products, for instance, may contain a modified QJson component. An upstream QJson file or a file taken from Nokia Suite is not automatically compatible.
Recommended Free Tools
If the program is discontinued, its official installer or support package may no longer be available. Treat archived installers as unverified, scan them before use, and do not mix files from different applications.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate application DLL, especially after a malware-definition update.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an action involving the affected application folder or
qjson.dll. - Do not restore the file immediately.
- Confirm the application and file with the software publisher first.
- If it is confirmed legitimate, restore it through Windows Security or the installed antivirus program.
- Repair or reinstall the application afterward so all related files are restored consistently.
If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, stop launching the program and investigate the detection. A file being named qjson.dll does not prove that it is safe.
Fix 4: Confirm the filename, location, and architecture
Check that the error really names qjson.dll. Similar names are not interchangeable.

Open the application’s installation folder and check whether it contains other Qt files, such as QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, or QtNetwork4.dll. Their presence can help confirm that the program is an older Qt application, but it does not prove which QJson build it needs.
Also check whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform if your Windows version provides it.
- Check the application’s installation documentation or vendor requirements if the platform column is unavailable.
A 32-bit application normally needs its matching 32-bit private DLL, even on 64-bit Windows. Do not place a 32-bit file in System32 merely because Windows itself is 64-bit. Likewise, do not copy a DLL into SysWOW64 without knowing that the application requires it.
The correct location is usually the application’s own directory, restored by its installer. Avoid manually choosing a location.
Fix 5: Determine whether a dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found qjson.dll but could not load one of the DLLs that qjson.dll needs.
First, repair or reinstall the parent application. That is safer than diagnosing and replacing individual dependencies.
If the application documentation specifically requires Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages:
- Identify whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Install the matching Redistributable from Microsoft.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
Installing the newest runtime does not necessarily replace every legacy runtime required by an older application. Do not treat Visual C++ Redistributable as a general replacement for qjson.dll.

You can use a trusted dependency inspection tool for diagnosis, but use it to identify the missing dependency, not to download arbitrary DLLs. If the result points to a Qt file or another private application file, reinstall the complete program.
Fix 6: Update the old application or use supported compatibility settings
Older Qt software may fail after a Windows update or after files from different releases become mixed.
- Check the application’s official update or maintenance function.
- Install the latest release supported by the vendor.
- Right-click the application shortcut and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for only if the vendor recommends it or the application is known to require it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the program again.
Do not use compatibility mode as a substitute for a missing installation file. If the program worked before an update, first repair or reinstall it and check whether the vendor provides legacy support instructions.

A qjson.dll error is usually not a graphics or device-driver problem. Update drivers only if the application also reports a display, audio, printer, storage, or hardware initialization failure.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the additional error.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a vendor driver, download the package from the computer or device manufacturer and match the Windows architecture. Do not replace qjson.dll because a driver update is available.
Manually hunting through Device Manager can mean checking many devices and guessing which package is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can perform a free scan that shows what needs attention; the driver installation is completed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that application owns qjson.dll.
Fix 8: Repair Windows components only as a later step
Windows component corruption is less likely when only one application fails. DISM and SFC will not normally recreate an application-owned qjson.dll, but they can repair protected Windows components that may affect program loading.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports repaired files but the same application still reports qjson.dll, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time and obscure the real cause. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; its repair is completed by the full version. It is optional, and an application reinstall remains the definitive fix for an application-owned DLL.
What not to do
Do not download a random qjson.dll
Third-party DLL sites may provide an unsigned, altered, incompatible, or incorrectly architected file. Public listings also show inconsistent metadata, which does not establish a universal publisher, version, hash, or safe download.
A random file may introduce malware, load the wrong Qt dependencies, or leave the original damaged installation unresolved.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Private application DLLs are normally loaded from the application directory. Copying one into a Windows system directory can create DLL search-order conflicts and make future troubleshooting harder.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not run regsvr32 qjson.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A private Qt library is normally loaded by its application and is not registered globally. Running:
regsvr32 qjson.dll
is unlikely to repair this error and may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found.”
Do not mix files from different applications
qjson.dll, libqjson.dll, and qjson0.dll may represent different builds. Keep the complete set supplied by the same application installer.
FAQ
Is qjson.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an application-bundled library associated with QJson and Qt software. It is not a standard file that Windows normally supplies through System32 or SysWOW64.
Is qjson.dll part of Microsoft Visual C++?
No. A Microsoft runtime may be a dependency of the application, but it is not a replacement for qjson.dll.
Can I copy qjson.dll from another computer?
Only if the other computer has the same application release, architecture, and complete matching dependency set, and the publisher confirms the file. Repairing or reinstalling the application is safer.
Why does the error say the specified module is missing when qjson.dll exists?
A dependency of qjson.dll may be missing, damaged, or the wrong architecture. Reinstall the parent application first.
What if only one Windows user sees the error?
The affected profile may have a damaged shortcut, permissions problem, or per-user application data issue. Test the program from another Windows account, but do not copy DLLs between profiles. If it works elsewhere, repair the application and review its per-user settings.
