qomp2 is a puzzle-platform game about steering a Pong ball that has escaped its paddles—not a remake of Pong’s paddle-and-ball matches. Its two-button controls, inventive environmental puzzles, and four boss fights make for a distinctive short adventure. Nintendo Life gave the Switch version 9/10, while Steam’s smaller user-review snapshot was more mixed.
Is qomp2 worth playing?
For players who enjoy compact puzzle games built around one unusual control idea, qomp2 looks like a strong choice. Atari describes 30 levels across four worlds, with hazards, switches, enemies, hidden collectibles, and four bosses. The appeal is not recreating arcade Pong; it is learning to guide a ball through spaces designed around its momentum and limited actions.
Ollie Reynolds’s review of the North American Nintendo Switch version awarded it 9/10. Reynolds praised the variety of puzzles and traversal, the presentation and sound, the bosses, and the optional collectibles. The review disclosed that Atari provided the review copy. Reynolds’s verdict was that “qomp 2 is an excellent and worthy reimaging of Pong that honours the classic arcade game’s legacy while providing a unique experience for folks with no nostalgia for Atari’s seminal masterpiece.” Nintendo Life review
The main reservation in that review was that some moments limit the directions available to the player, and Reynolds would have welcomed another 10–20 levels. That makes the game’s compact scale a meaningful consideration: it offers a focused run rather than a sprawling campaign.

How does qomp2 play, and is it like Pong?
It borrows Pong’s ball, but not its familiar match format. You control the ball after it escapes the paddles, using two buttons: tap to change direction and hold to dash forward. Atari presents the game as a cerebral puzzler, with navigation and puzzle-solving at its center. Atari’s official qomp2 page
The dash is more than a way to move faster. In Nintendo Life’s account of the Switch version, it can break or shift certain blocks, while puzzles involve flipping switches, moving barriers, tracing patterns, and guiding enemies. Later areas change how redirection or boosting works; underwater sections are one example. These variations keep the central controls familiar while asking players to adapt their use of them. How long is qomp2?
Nintendo Life’s reviewer estimated a three-to-four-hour playthrough. That is one reviewer’s estimate, not a guaranteed completion time; searching for optional collectibles can extend the run. Atari lists 30 levels spread across four worlds, giving the adventure a defined scope rather than an open-ended structure. Atari · Nintendo Life
Is qomp2 hard?
The late stages can become “fiendishly tricky,” according to Nintendo Life, but Reynolds judged the overall challenge balanced. The difficulty comes in part from combining a small set of controls with situations that alter how direction changes and boosts behave. Players who want a demanding puzzle finish may enjoy that escalation; those looking for a relaxed, consistently easy run should expect some sharper late-game tests. Nintendo Life review

What do players think? Critic review versus store ratings
Critic scores and storefront user ratings measure different things, and the user figures below are small, dated snapshots rather than stable consensus scores.
| Source and edition | Rating shown | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Life, North American Switch review, February 19, 2024 | 9/10 | One critic’s review; Atari supplied the review copy. Review |
| Steam, all-time user reviews, snapshot from October 8, 2026 | Mixed: 68% of 22 reviews | A small Steam user-review sample; the percentage and review count can change. It is not a critic score. Steam listing |
The difference between the enthusiastic Switch review and Steam’s mixed snapshot is not enough to establish why players responded differently. The editions, audiences, and sample sizes differ, so treat each figure as evidence about its own source rather than combining them into a single verdict.
