qsvg.dll is a Qt SVG image-format plugin, not a Windows system DLL. It normally belongs to the application that installed it, so the safest fix is to repair that application’s complete Qt deployment rather than download a replacement DLL.

Which fix applies to you
Start with the situation that best matches what happened:
- The error started after an update, interrupted installation, disk cleanup, or moving the program: repair or reinstall the affected application.
- The file disappeared after antivirus activity: inspect Windows Security Protection history before reinstalling.
qsvg.dllis present, but Windows says “The specified module could not be found”: a dependent Qt or Microsoft runtime file may be missing.- You copied the application from another computer: replace it with a proper installation for the correct Windows architecture.
- The error names
Qt5Svg.dll,Qt6Svg.dll,Qt5Core.dll,Qt6Gui.dll,vcruntime140.dll, ormsvcp*.dll: repair the application and install the matching Microsoft Visual C++ runtime only when the error identifies it. - Several unrelated applications fail: investigate Windows component corruption, environment variables, or malware instead of treating this as one application’s missing plugin.
- Only one user account is affected: test another Windows account and inspect per-user settings or permissions.
Do not begin by copying qsvg.dll into System32, running regsvr32, or downloading a random DLL package.

What qsvg.dll does
Qt is a software framework used by many Windows applications, utilities, launchers, and games. Qt applications can load optional features as plugins. qsvg.dll is normally the Qt plugin that handles SVG image files.
The usual location is:
<Application folder>imageformatsqsvg.dll
Some applications use a layout like this instead:
<Application folder>pluginsimageformatsqsvg.dll
The application’s Qt configuration determines which plugin directory it searches. A qt.conf file or application-specific Qt paths may change the expected location.
qsvg.dll is separate from qsvgicon.dll. The former is an image-format plugin, while the latter is an icon-engine plugin normally found under an iconengines directory. One cannot safely substitute for the other.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no universal qsvg.dll version, size, hash, or architecture. Applications may use Qt 5, Qt 6, or a customized Qt build. The matching plugin must have the correct architecture and must agree with the application’s Qt libraries.
1. Repair or reinstall the affected application
This is the most likely solution because the application installer is responsible for deploying the correct plugin and its related files.
First identify the program producing the message. Check the title bar of the error, the application shortcut, or the path shown in the message. Do not assume that the program is Qt itself. Qt is often embedded inside another application.
Use the program’s repair option
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
The repair option normally keeps the application’s data while restoring missing program files. If there is no Repair button, open the application’s own installer and look for Repair, Modify, or Fix.

If repair is unavailable or does not work:
- Back up saved games, profiles, templates, or other application data if the program stores them outside its installation folder.
- Uninstall the affected application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application publisher’s official website or use the official launcher.
- Install the program to its normal location.
- Start it before restoring optional modifications or third-party plugins.
A clean reinstall restores the application’s matching imageformats directory, Qt runtime libraries, and compiler runtime files. If the program is distributed through a game launcher, use that launcher’s file-repair function first. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. In Epic Games Launcher, open the game’s three-dot menu, select Manage, and choose Verify.
Run the application as administrator only as a test
If repair appears to finish but the application still cannot read its own files:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the program.
If this works, the underlying issue may be permissions or security software rather than a missing qsvg plugin. Do not permanently use administrator mode unless the publisher requires it. Instead, check the installation folder permissions and reinstall the application in a location where it can update correctly.
2. Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a Qt plugin after an update or a false detection.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the affected application folder or
qsvg.dll. - Expand an entry to inspect its original path, publisher, and detection details.
Restore a quarantined file only when the original application, publisher, installation path, and digital signature are trusted. If the entry is unclear, leave it quarantined and reinstall the application from its official source. Reinstalling is preferable to restoring an isolated DLL because it replaces the complete, matching Qt deployment.
After reinstalling, add an exclusion only if the application publisher or your security administrator confirms that it is appropriate. Do not disable antivirus protection broadly to make an unknown DLL load.
3. Check whether the named file is really the missing component
Windows loader messages can be misleading. For example:
There was a problem starting qsvg.dll. The specified module could not be found.

That wording can mean that qsvg.dll exists but one of its dependencies cannot be loaded. Look in the application’s installation folder and its Qt directories for these related files:
Qt5Svg.dllorQt6Svg.dllQt5Core.dllorQt6Core.dllQt5Gui.dllorQt6Gui.dllvcruntime140.dllmsvcp*.dll
Do not download individual files to fill gaps. Repair or reinstall the application so all files come from the same package.
If the error specifically identifies a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that matches the application:
- x86 for a 32-bit application
- x64 for a 64-bit application
- ARM64 for an ARM64 application
The redistributable must be at least as recent as the toolset used to build the application. If you do not know the application architecture, check the publisher’s system requirements or use the application’s official installer rather than guessing.

A 32-bit program needs a 32-bit qsvg.dll. A 64-bit program needs a 64-bit plugin. Files copied from another Qt installation may look identical in name while being incompatible.
Also, Qt major and minor versions matter. A Qt 5 plugin cannot replace a Qt 6 plugin. Qt can also reject a plugin built for an incompatible minor version or a different build configuration.
The practical fix is to restore every Qt file from the same application installer. Do not mix qsvg.dll from a development kit, another game, or another program.
4. Diagnose a plugin that exists but will not load
If qsvg.dll is visible in the expected imageformats folder, the file may be blocked, mismatched, or missing a dependency.
For a Qt application that you administer, enable Qt’s plugin diagnostic output:
- Open the application folder in File Explorer.
- Click the address bar, type
cmd, and press Enter. - At the command prompt, run:
set QT_DEBUG_PLUGINS=1
application.exe
Replace application.exe with the actual executable name. The diagnostic output can identify the plugin directory Qt searched and the dependency that failed.

A system-wide QT_PLUGIN_PATH can also make one Qt application discover plugins from another installation. To inspect it:
- Press Windows + S and search for environment variables.
- Select Edit the system environment variables.
- Select Environment Variables.
- Review both User variables and System variables for
QT_PLUGIN_PATH. - Remove or correct a system-wide value only if you understand why it exists and it is not required by managed software.
Qt applications should generally use their own deployment paths rather than a global plugin path.

5. Reinstall or update the application’s drivers only when evidence points there
Graphics drivers and DirectX do not normally supply qsvg.dll. Update a driver only when the application also reports graphics initialization errors, device failures, display corruption, or a publisher specifically requires a driver update.
To check drivers through Windows:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean driver reinstall, right-click the device, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then install the driver supplied by the computer or graphics-card manufacturer. Avoid removing a working driver merely because qsvg.dll is missing.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through hardware pages and guessing which of several drivers is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for an application-owned Qt plugin.
Do not install legacy DirectX merely because the error mentions qsvg.dll. DirectX repair is relevant to errors naming files such as d3dx9_*.dll or XInput, not normally to this Qt plugin.
6. Repair broader Windows components only when several programs are affected
qsvg.dll is normally an application file, so System File Checker will not recreate the correct copy in a program’s private Qt directory. Use Windows image repair when multiple unrelated applications or Windows components are failing.
- Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
If DISM reports that it cannot repair the image, record the exact message and repair Windows through supported recovery options. If SFC reports repaired files but the same application still shows the qsvg error, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed rarely repairs an incomplete third-party deployment. Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of identifying system problems less guess-based: its free scan shows what it finds, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it cannot replace reinstalling the application that owns qsvg.dll.
To inspect Windows optional features, open Settings > Apps > Optional features > More Windows features. No standard Windows Feature supplies qsvg.dll, so enabling random features is not a normal fix.
7. Use System Restore only for a wider system change
If the problem began immediately after a driver, system, or software change and several programs are affected:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore may roll back system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs. It will not necessarily restore an application’s separately deployed Qt files, so repair or reinstall that application afterward if needed.
Why regsvr32 and DLL download sites are wrong here
Do not run:
regsvr32 qsvg.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose Windows COM registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. qsvg.dll is discovered by Qt’s plugin system as an image I/O plugin. Registering it does not repair Qt’s plugin search path and may only create a confusing error.
Do not copy the file into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not the normal home for this application plugin. Copying a mismatched file can cause version and architecture conflicts while leaving the application’s real deployment incomplete.

The safe sources are the affected application’s official installer or launcher, the application publisher’s support channel, and Microsoft’s official Visual C++ packages when the error specifically identifies that runtime.
For developers packaging a Qt application
If you maintain the application rather than merely use it, deploy Qt files with the matching Qt toolchain. From a Qt command prompt, the standard deployment command is:
windeployqt pathtoapplication.exe
For a Qt Quick application:
windeployqt --qmldir pathtoqml pathtoapplication.exe
This scans the executable and copies the relevant Qt libraries, plugins, QML imports, translations, and compiler runtime files. Confirm that the resulting qsvg.dll is under the deployed imageformats directory and that the application does not depend on an accidental system-wide QT_PLUGIN_PATH.
When to contact the application publisher
Contact the publisher if reinstalling from the official source still fails. Provide:
- The application name and version shown by its installer or launcher
- The complete error text
- The full path where the application is installed
- Whether
qsvg.dllexists underimageformats - Whether the application is 32-bit, 64-bit, or ARM64
- Any named dependency such as
Qt6Svg.dllorvcruntime140.dll - Whether Windows Security quarantined a file
- Whether other unrelated applications work normally
That information lets the publisher supply the correct deployment package instead of asking you to guess at a standalone DLL.
FAQ
Is qsvg.dll a Windows file?
No. It is normally a Qt application plugin and should not normally be installed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Can I download qsvg.dll separately?
You should not. Restore it through the application’s official installer or launcher so its Qt libraries, architecture, and plugin build match.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when qsvg.dll is present?
The message may refer to a dependency of qsvg.dll, such as Qt5Svg.dll, Qt6Svg.dll, Qt Core or GUI libraries, or a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime.
Is qsvgicon.dll the same file?
No. qsvgicon.dll is a separate Qt icon-engine plugin. It cannot substitute for qsvg.dll.
Should I run regsvr32 qsvg.dll?
No. Qt discovers this plugin through its plugin system, not COM registration.
Will SFC repair qsvg.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while qsvg.dll normally belongs to a third-party application. Repair or reinstall that application first.
What if only one Windows user has the problem?
Test the application from another account, check per-user environment variables such as QT_PLUGIN_PATH, and compare permissions. If the second account works, the application may be intact and the original profile needs further troubleshooting.
