The qt5sensors.dll error may say “The program can’t start because Qt5Sensors.dll is missing,” “The code execution cannot proceed,” or “The specified module could not be found.” The file may also be reported as damaged or “not designed to run on Windows.”
The 60-second answer
qt5sensors.dll is the case-insensitive filename for Qt5Sensors.dll, a Qt 5 application library. It belongs to the application that installed it, not to Windows.

What qt5sensors.dll does
Qt Sensors is a module in the Qt application framework. It provides C++ and QML interfaces that applications can use for sensor-related features. Windows does not install it as a protected system component.
A normal Qt application keeps this library beside its executable, alongside other files such as:
Qt5Core.dllQt5Gui.dllQt5Widgets.dll- Other Qt plugins and application files
The exact Qt version depends on the program. Public file records include examples such as 64-bit version 5.8.0.0 and older 32-bit versions 5.6.0.0, 5.2.1.0, and 5.1.1.0. These examples do not establish which version your application needs. A newer-looking DLL is not automatically compatible.

The error dialog usually names the executable or appears immediately after you launch a particular program. Start there rather than searching Windows for a replacement DLL.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the program’s desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the executable name and installation folder.
If the error appears while opening a game, record the game name and launcher. If it appears after opening a document or media file, check which application is associated with that file type.
Check the installation folder
Open the folder containing the executable and look for other Qt DLLs. If Qt5Core.dll and related files are missing as well, the installation is probably incomplete rather than missing only one file.
If you cannot identify the program, open Task Manager immediately after the error appears:

Fix 1: Repair the owning application
This is the most likely solution for a missing or damaged qt5sensors.dll.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the application that produced the error.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the application again.
Repair normally preserves application data, but back up irreplaceable settings or licenses first.
If Repair is unavailable or does not work:
- Download the application’s installer from its official publisher.
- Close the application and its launcher.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair, Modify, or reinstall as appropriate.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Test the application before deleting any remaining files.
For a game, open its launcher and use Verify files, Verify integrity, Scan and repair, or the equivalent command. This should restore the complete Qt deployment rather than only one DLL.
If reinstalling the program fixes the error, the cause was probably an incomplete update, damaged installation, failed extraction, or accidental deletion.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine a legitimate application file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the application folder or
Qt5Sensors.dll. - Check the detected file’s full path and publisher context.
Do not restore a file merely because its name matches. Restore it only if it came from the legitimate application directory and the application’s installer and publisher are trustworthy. If the file was quarantined repeatedly, update or reinstall the application from its official source and run a full scan.

Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 32-bit application needs a 32-bit Qt library, even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application needs a 64-bit build.
Do not mix a DLL from:
- Another application
- Another Qt installation
- A developer SDK
- A different compiler toolchain
- A different architecture
To check an installed program’s architecture, consult its official documentation or inspect the executable with a trusted dependency-analysis tool. You can also compare the application’s installation package and launcher records. The filename alone does not reveal whether the library is 32-bit or 64-bit.
A correct repair replaces the application’s complete deployment. Copying a 32-bit file into System32, or a 64-bit file into SysWOW64, is not a generic repair. Those folders have architecture-specific Windows meanings, and Qt libraries normally belong beside the application executable.
Fix 4: Check whether a dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that Qt5Sensors.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load it because another library required by it is missing.
Look for a second error mentioning:
VCRUNTIMEMSVCP- Another Qt DLL
- A graphics or platform plugin
- A file named in the application’s launcher log
If the program was built with Microsoft Visual C++, it may require the matching Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Microsoft packages include vc_redist.x86.exe, vc_redist.x64.exe, and vc_redist.arm64.exe.
Install the architecture that matches the application, not merely the architecture of Windows. A 64-bit Windows computer can need both x86 and x64 packages because it may run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
After installing or repairing the redistributable:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the affected application.
- If the error changes to another missing runtime file, record the new message.
- Repair the application deployment rather than copying individual runtime files.
Visual C++ installation is conditional. It does not install Qt5Sensors.dll and is not a universal fix for Qt errors.
Fix 5: Restore a complete portable deployment
Portable applications can fail when only part of an archive is extracted or when a cleanup utility removes unused-looking DLLs.
If the program is portable:
- Delete or move the damaged extracted copy after backing up settings.
- Download the complete package from the publisher.
- Extract every file to a short local folder.
- Avoid running the executable from inside a compressed archive.
- Launch the program from the newly extracted folder.
For a developer-owned application, run the deployment tool from the matching Qt installation:
windeployqt pathtoapplication.exe
For a QML application:
windeployqt --qmldir pathtoqml pathtoapplication.exe
The resulting folder must contain the required Qt libraries and plugins in the locations expected by that executable. Qt 5 and Qt 6 deployments are not interchangeable.
Fix 6: Update or reinstall drivers only when the app identifies a driver problem
A display, sensor, or hardware driver is not a general source of qt5sensors.dll. Reinstalling a driver is relevant only when the application separately reports a graphics, input, sensor, or device-driver failure.
To check a device:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sensors, or Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean reinstall, use the hardware manufacturer’s official driver package. Do not remove a working driver solely because this Qt DLL is missing.
When manually hunting through Device Manager for outdated drivers, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix when the problem is its Qt deployment.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only if Windows itself is damaged
Qt5Sensors.dll is a third-party application file, so System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use DISM and SFC when multiple Windows components are failing, Windows features are corrupted, or other protected system files also report errors.

- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If either command reports corruption it could not repair, restart and run the command again. If only qt5sensors.dll is missing while Windows otherwise works normally, return to repairing the owning application.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make diagnosis difficult. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the application that supplied this Qt file.

Fix 8: Use System Restore only for a suitable recent change
System Restore may help if the error began immediately after a system or application change and a restore point predates the failure.
- Press
Win+R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the results.
- Select Finish only if the consequences are acceptable.
System Restore can remove recently installed applications or drivers and is not guaranteed to restore a third-party Qt file. Prefer application repair or reinstall when available.
Why regsvr32 is not the fix
Do not run:
regsvr32 Qt5Sensors.dll
Qt runtime libraries are normally loaded by the application’s dependency system, not registered as COM components. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.
If it reports that DllRegisterServer is missing, that is expected. It does not indicate that the Qt file needs registration.

Third-party DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- An incompatible Qt build
- A file intended for another application
- A modified or malicious file
- A DLL that still lacks its dependencies
Even if the error disappears temporarily, mixing one file into an otherwise incomplete Qt deployment can create a second loader error. Use the application publisher’s installer or launcher instead. Use Microsoft’s official download pages for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, not reposted installers.
There is no general Windows feature that installs Qt5Sensors.dll, and Windows Update is not a direct source for this application library.
If the error still persists
Collect these details before contacting the application publisher:
- The complete error text.
- The executable name and full installation path.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether the program was recently updated, extracted, cleaned, or quarantined.
- The names and versions of nearby Qt DLLs.
- Launcher or application logs.
- Any missing
VCRUNTIME,MSVCP, plugin, or graphics message.
If every repair attempt fails, the application may be obsolete, incorrectly packaged, damaged on disk, or incompatible with the current system. The publisher of the affected program is the correct support source because it controls the required Qt deployment.
FAQ
Is qt5sensors.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is a Qt 5 application library supplied with the program that uses it.
Can I copy it to System32?
No. Keep the matching library in the application’s installation directory and restore the complete deployment through the official installer.
Does installing Qt 6 fix a Qt5Sensors error?
No. Qt 5 and Qt 6 libraries are not interchangeable. The affected application needs its matching Qt 5 files.
Does the DLL’s presence prove it is working?
No. It may be corrupted, blocked, the wrong architecture, or unable to load a dependency.
Should I run SFC first?
Only when Windows has broader file or component problems. SFC normally does not restore this third-party Qt library.
Why does the error mention a missing module when the file exists?
Windows may be reporting a missing dependency of Qt5Sensors.dll, not the Qt file itself. Check the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime and the rest of the application deployment.
