qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll is a Qt Solutions Property Browser library used by some third-party Windows applications. If Windows says qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll is missing or could not be loaded, repair the application that installed it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this DLL is
The file belongs to the Qt Solutions Property Browser component, an open-source Qt widget library used to create property managers, property browsers, and editing controls. It is an application library, not a Windows component.

It is also not part of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. An application may need Visual C++ as a separate dependency, but installing that runtime will not recreate this Qt DLL.

Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
This is the most reliable fix because the DLL normally needs matching Qt libraries and application files beside it.
Find which program is affected
Start with the error message:
- Read the title bar and the full text of the dialog.
- Note the application name, if shown.
- Click OK, then open the shortcut or launcher you used to start the program.
- Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, check Target. The executable path often identifies the application.
- Open File Explorer and browse to the folder containing that executable.
- Search that folder and its parent folder for
qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll.
If the error appears during Windows startup:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an unfamiliar or recently installed application.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location, if available.
- Use the folder name and executable name to identify the parent program.
Do not assume that the DLL filename identifies the vendor. Search for the executable or installation folder instead.

Use the application’s repair feature
For a traditional desktop program:
- Press Windows+I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and follow the prompts.
- Restart the application.
If there is no Repair button:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Change, Modify, or Repair, depending on what the installer provides.
- Complete the repair and restart Windows if requested.
A successful repair should allow the application to start without the DLL message. If the same error remains, uninstall the application from its official uninstaller or the Installed apps page, restart Windows, and reinstall it using the developer’s official installer or the original trusted installation media.
Do not remove the application’s remaining folders before checking the publisher’s instructions. Some programs store settings or licenses there.
Verify files for a game
If the error belongs to a game, use its launcher rather than copying a DLL manually. Open the launcher, find the game in your library, and look for a menu named Verify files, Verify integrity, Scan and repair, or Repair.
The exact menu differs by launcher, but the result should be a fresh check of the game’s installed files. Launch the game again after verification. If the error changes to another missing Qt file, the installation is likely missing more than one bundled component and should be reinstalled.

Security software can remove an application DLL during installation or after an update.
In Windows Security:
- Press the Windows key and search for Windows Security.
- Open it and select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions for the affected application or DLL.
- Expand an entry to view its path and detection details.
Restore the file only if you recognize the application, obtained it from a trusted official source, and have verified that the file belongs in that application’s folder. Microsoft’s quarantine guidance explains the restoration process.
If the file is repeatedly quarantined:
- Do not broadly disable antivirus protection.
- Uninstall the application if its installation is damaged.
- Download a fresh installer from the application publisher.
- Install it with Windows Security enabled.
- Contact the publisher if the clean installer is removed again.
If you do not recognize the program or its installer, leave the file quarantined and run a full security scan.
Fix 3: Restore the complete Qt dependency set
Qt programs commonly distribute several libraries together. A package may contain this DLL beside files such as QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, QtNetwork4.dll, QtWebKit4.dll, and QtXml4.dll.
If qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll exists but Windows still reports “the specified module could not be found,” another dependency may be missing. The named DLL may have been found, while a library it needs could not be loaded.
Repair or reinstall the complete application rather than replacing individual files. If the error changes to a missing file beginning with msvcp, msvcr, or vcruntime, install the appropriate Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft. Select the architecture required by the application, such as x86, x64, or ARM64.
Installing Visual C++ can repair a secondary dependency, but it does not supply qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll.
If the file is present and the application still fails:
- Check the application’s own log folder.
- Look for installer or launcher repair logs.
- Use a reputable dependency inspection tool to identify the missing library.
- Avoid replacing the Qt files one at a time.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 32-bit application needs 32-bit Qt libraries even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. A DLL copied from another program may have the wrong architecture or an incompatible build.
Typical symptoms include:
- “The file is not designed to run on Windows.”
- An entry-point error.
- The application opening and immediately closing.
- A crash after the DLL was manually replaced.
Restore the exact file from the same application release. Keep the application’s Qt libraries together and do not mix files from different programs.
To check the application architecture, open the application’s documentation or installation information. You can also inspect the executable with a trusted file-analysis utility. The important match is between the application, its bundled Qt files, and the DLL, not simply between Windows and the replacement file.
Fix 5: Check permissions and blocked installation files
A failed update or restricted installation can leave the application incomplete.
Try this sequence:
- Restart Windows.
- Right-click the application’s shortcut.
- Select Run as administrator.
- If it starts, close it and repair or reinstall the program normally.
- Right-click the official installer and select Properties.
- On the General tab, look for an Unblock checkbox.
- If present, select it, choose Apply, and run the installer again.
Do not permanently run ordinary applications as administrator unless the publisher requires it. If the installer fails, check whether Windows Security, endpoint protection, or a company policy blocked one of its files.
Fix 6: Update or reinstall related drivers only when evidence points there
A graphics or device driver is not normally the source of this Qt application DLL. Consider a driver update only if the application also reports display initialization failures, crashes when opening a 3D view, or shows device-related errors.
To check manually:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters or the category named in the application’s error.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean reinstall, right-click the device, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the driver from the hardware manufacturer or your computer manufacturer. Do not uninstall a critical device without first confirming that you can reinstall its driver.

Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through many driver versions: its free scan identifies outdated drivers, while the full version performs the driver installation. It is optional, and reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for this DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 7: Use System Restore for recent accidental changes
If the application worked recently and the file disappeared after cleanup software, an update, or a system change, System Restore may help.
- Press the Windows key and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it and select System Restore.
- Choose Next.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes and select Close.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore reverts monitored system changes to a selected restore point. It is not a targeted DLL download and may not restore an application-local file. If it does not help, repair or reinstall the parent application.
Fix 8: Run DISM and System File Checker only for broader Windows problems
Because this is normally a third-party application file, SFC and DISM will not usually restore it. Use them when Windows itself is unstable or several protected Windows files are failing.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Successful output should report that the operation completed or that Windows Resource Protection found and repaired system files. If both commands complete without changing the application error, return to repairing the application and checking its dependencies.

What not to do
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
This DLL normally belongs beside the application executable. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can create path conflicts and still leave the application without its matching Qt libraries.
If a copy is already in a Windows system folder, do not delete it blindly. Remove it through the owning application’s uninstaller after identifying where it came from.
Do not use random DLL download sites
A separately downloaded DLL can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to another application release, or fail because its dependencies are also missing. Use the application publisher’s installer, launcher verification, original trusted media, or a verified backup instead.
Manual copying is reasonable only when you are restoring the exact file from a verified backup or from the application’s own installer contents into that application’s directory.
Do not use registry cleaners
This is a file-loading and application-integrity problem, not normally a registry problem. Registry cleaners do not rebuild the Qt library set.
Do not normally run regsvr32
Ordinary Qt runtime libraries are not generally COM or ActiveX components. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.
If a vendor specifically instructs you to register a component, use the command and path supplied by that vendor. Otherwise, running commands such as the following is unlikely to help:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
regsvr32 "C:Pathqtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll"
A registration error for this file is usually expected and does not prove that Windows is damaged.
If the problem keeps returning
A recurring failure can indicate that security software is removing the file, storage is corrupt, malware is altering installations, or the application’s updater is defective.
Check these items:
- Confirm that the installer came from the publisher.
- Review Windows Security Protection history.
- Check the application’s update and error logs.
- Run a full security scan.
- Check whether other applications are also losing files.
- Test the disk if files are disappearing or Windows reports read/write errors.
- Reinstall from a known-good backup or official installer.
- Contact the application publisher with the exact error text, application version, installation path, and relevant log files.
If every application begins reporting different DLL errors, investigate storage health, malware, or Windows corruption rather than downloading each missing file separately.
FAQ
Is qtsolutions_propertybrowser-head.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a third-party Qt Solutions application library and should not normally be installed in a Windows system directory.
Recommended Free Tools
Which program installed it?
There is no single confirmed owner. Multiple Qt applications have used this filename. Identify the executable, shortcut, launcher, or installation folder connected to your error.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable restore it?
No. Visual C++ may fix a separate dependency if the error changes to an msvcp, msvcr, or vcruntime file, but it does not provide this Qt DLL.
Can I download this DLL separately?
You should not. Repair or reinstall the parent application so that the DLL and its matching Qt dependencies come from the same trusted package.
Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The loader may be unable to find a dependency required by the named DLL. Check the application’s logs or use dependency analysis, then repair the complete application installation.
Should I run SFC or DISM first?
Only when there is broader evidence of Windows component corruption. For this file, repairing the application is normally the correct first step.
Is an unsigned copy automatically malicious?
No. Older application libraries may be unsigned. Verify the installer source, file path, publisher, and surrounding application files instead of judging the DLL by its signature alone.
