What are the best Quantic Dream games?
- Heavy Rain — best starting point for a compact psychological thriller built around several perspectives and consequential choices.
- Beyond: Two Souls — best for a character-led supernatural story, with a choice of story order and local duo play on its PC edition.
- Detroit: Become Human — best for a near-future science-fiction story following three android protagonists through a branching narrative.
The order is about narrative progression and fit, not a measurable score. The available studio material describes each game but does not establish a comparable critic ranking, player ranking, or count of which one has the most choices.

1. Heavy Rain: the strongest place to start
Heavy Rain puts four characters on separate paths through a search for the Origami Killer and a missing person. Quantic Dream presents it as a psychological thriller unfolding over four days, with player decisions able to alter the consequences and determine who survives. That mix of multiple perspectives, investigation, and high stakes makes it the clearest entry point if you want a tense crime story rather than a broad science-fiction setting. PC requirements and ratings listed by the studio
The official PC page lists Windows 7 or later, 64-bit. Its minimum target is 720p at 30 FPS, with a minimum GPU of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB. The recommended target is 1080p at 60 FPS, with a GTX 970 4GB or Radeon R9 390 4GB. The same page lists PEGI 18 and ESRB Mature 17+. 2. Beyond: Two Souls: a life-spanning supernatural drama
Beyond: Two Souls centers on Jodie Holmes and Aiden, the entity connected to her, and follows Jodie’s life. Its supernatural premise makes it the most character-focused contrast to Heavy Rain’s murder investigation. If you are deciding between the two, choose Heavy Rain for a crime-thriller structure and Beyond for a story organized around one person’s unusual connection and experiences. Story order and local duo play on PC
The PC edition lets players experience the story in cinematic order or chronological order, and play solo or in local duo mode. It also includes the Advanced Experiments DLC mission and two difficulty modes. The PC page lists support for 4K resolution, 21:9 displays, and 60 FPS. Quantic Dream lists PEGI 16 and ESRB Mature 17+ for this page. These edition-specific features should not be assumed to apply to every platform or release.
3. Detroit: Become Human: the broadest science-fiction ensemble
Detroit: Become Human moves the action to Detroit in 2038, where human-like androids are widespread. You follow Kara, Connor, and Markus as decisions shape the branching narrative; Quantic Dream says those choices can have life-or-death consequences. It is the natural pick if you want several central protagonists and a near-future setting rather than a grounded psychological thriller or Jodie’s personal supernatural story. The official page emphasizes branching, but the material available does not establish a reliable comparison of branch or choice counts against the other games. Should you play Heavy Rain or Detroit first?
Start with Heavy Rain if you want a murder mystery told through several perspectives; start with Detroit: Become Human if android characters and a branching science-fiction setting are the stronger draw. There is no story-continuity requirement between the two in the descriptions here, so the choice can be made by premise rather than chronology.

What the sales and player figures actually mean
Quantic Dream reported that Detroit: Become Human had sold five million units worldwide across platforms by August 5, 2020. That is a dated milestone, not a current lifetime total. In an October 16, 2025 post, the studio said more than 25 million players worldwide had shared the journeys of Ethan Mars, Jodie Holmes, Kara, Markus, and Connor. Quantic Dream announced on June 18, 2020 that all three games were available on Steam. Its announcement listed European prices at that time of €19.90 each for Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, and €39.90 for Detroit: Become Human.
