Across Updates 0.2.0, 0.3.0 and 0.4.0, Path of Exile 2’s endgame changes touched Atlas progression, access to Pinnacle encounters, map rewards and monster balance. The biggest distinctions are patch-specific: 0.2.0 added Corrupted Nexus encounters and reduced monster armor; 0.3.0 changed how most Pinnacle content is entered; and 0.4.0 revised map-tier scaling and added protection against bursting down bosses as they emerge. These notes describe those updates, not a verified live-state guide: whether a later update has superseded any change is not established here.
What changed in the endgame?
The updates changed different parts of progression rather than replacing one unified endgame system. In 0.2.0, corruption areas gained a central encounter that rewards Atlas progression. In 0.3.0, most Pinnacle content moved to splinter-based entry with selectable difficulty. In 0.4.0, map tiers shifted from pack-size scaling to stronger non-unique monsters, while tablets received a four-modifier limit.
Update 0.2.0: Corrupted Nexus progression
Grinding Gear Games’ Content Update 0.2.0 — Dawn of the Hunt notes added a Corrupted Nexus at the center of Atlas corruption areas. Corruption spills from slain enemies and combines into stronger monsters as players make their way toward it. At the Nexus, players cleanse the source of corruption and fight faction bosses. Completing the task grants Crystalline Shards, which provide Atlas Passive Skill points.
Update 0.3.0: Splinter-based Pinnacle entry
In Content Update 0.3.0 — The Third Edict, most Pinnacle content changed from a single combined key to splinters. Players bring splinters to the Realmgate, use its interface to choose a difficulty, and pay the entry cost for that difficulty. The Arbiter of Ash is excluded from this access change.

Existing Simulacrums, Breachstones and Audience for the Kings can be right-clicked to grant 100 relevant splinters; they can no longer be used directly in the Realmgate. Atlas passive trees no longer determine the difficulty of this content. Instead, they affect the content when it appears in maps.
Update 0.3.0: Campaign route into the endgame
The Third Edict also removed Cruel Difficulty and introduced three temporary interludes. The interludes carry characters to level 65, where endgame begins.
Update 0.4.0: Map tiers and tablets
Content Update 0.4.0 — The Last of the Druids changed how map tiers scale encounters. Higher tiers no longer increase pack size by default. Instead, non-unique monsters gain increased Effectiveness, which raises their life, the experience they grant and the quantity of items they drop.

Tablets are capped at four modifiers, and defeating the Arbiter of Ash unlocks tablet crafting beyond two modifiers. The update added or revised modifiers that affect encounter composition and rewards. For example, the official notes list Breeding at 6–10% increased map pack size, up from 4–10%; Teeming at 50–70% increased magic monsters, up from 25–70%; and Bountiful at 25–40% increased gold found, up from 15–40%. These are listed modifier ranges, not measured averages for map outcomes.
How did monster changes affect maps and combat?
The balance changes do not amount to a blanket monster nerf. They target different defenses and encounters, with some changes making monsters less durable and others increasing specific threats.
Monster armor and Soul Eater in 0.2.0
The 0.2.0 notes reduced armor by 30% for all monsters. They also changed Soul Eater: each stack grants 1% Skill Speed and 1% less damage taken, up to 50 stacks. Previously, each stack granted 5% Skill Speed and 2% less damage taken, with a 45-stack cap.

Level scaling and Act 3 bosses in 0.3.0
The 0.3.0 notes lowered monster evasion growth with level, leaving level-80 monsters with 30% less evasion than before. Most Act 3 bosses also received approximately 15% less life.
Rogue Exiles moved in the opposite direction: their life scaling was increased from level 65 onward. The notes estimate approximately 30–70% more life between Tier 1 and Tier 16 Waystones. That range describes the stated change across those tiers, not a single increase applied uniformly to every Rogue Exile.
Other encounter adjustments in 0.2.0
The same update increased monsters’ Light Stun damage scaling by level, reaching around twice the previous amount in the endgame. Ritual encounters received a lower maximum number of simultaneously living monsters, particularly earlier in the game. Electrocute and Pin also build up more slowly on non-player characters.

What changed for Pinnacle bosses?
Three different kinds of changes matter: access rules in 0.3.0, life adjustments in 0.2.0, and an anti-burst mechanic in 0.4.0. They apply to different parts of the encounter and should not be read as one shared balance change.
Life adjustments in 0.2.0
At Difficulty 0, several named Pinnacle bosses had roughly half their former maximum life, with the reduction scaling back to no change at Difficulty 4. The notes name Olroth, Xesht, the King in the Mists and the Arbiter of Ash, among others. The Trialmaster and Zarokh also received life reductions.
Entry rules in 0.3.0
For most Pinnacle content, the Realmgate interface lets players select a difficulty and pay its corresponding splinter cost. The Arbiter of Ash is the exception to this system change. This is an access and difficulty-selection change, separate from the boss-life adjustments in 0.2.0.

Anti-burst protection in 0.4.0
In 0.4.0, damage reduction begins after a boss finishes emerging or becomes aggressive, then tapers to zero over time. A boss moving away from its starting position makes that reduction fall off faster; bosses with little ability to move have a shorter duration. The mechanic therefore protects the opening moment of an encounter without maintaining the reduction indefinitely.
The update also improved phase transitions for Act 2 and Act 4 bosses, Great White One behavior and Rogue Exile behavior. It improved visibility for explosive fungus.
What did the 0.2.0f preview add?
The separate 0.2.0f patch notes preview described further map and Pinnacle changes. It said Pinnacle bosses would allow unlimited respawn attempts at Difficulty 0. Tower and Hideout Maps would have a higher minimum number of rare monsters, and—with enough Waystone Chance—the final rare monster defeated would drop a map of the same tier. The preview also described UI tracking for rare and unique monsters in specified map types. These are preview-note details and should not be confused with the three main content updates above.
Quick Recap
How to read these notes as a player
- For Atlas progression: the Corrupted Nexus and Crystalline Shards belong to 0.2.0.
- For Pinnacle access: the splinter-and-Realmgate system for most content belongs to 0.3.0; the Arbiter of Ash is excluded.
- For map scaling: 0.4.0 describes higher-tier non-unique monsters gaining Effectiveness rather than tiers automatically adding pack size.
- For monster balance: check the affected group and version. The armor reduction in 0.2.0, the evasion and Act 3 boss changes in 0.3.0, and increased Rogue Exile life scaling do not point in the same direction.
- For current mechanics: these official notes establish what the listed updates changed, but do not establish whether a subsequent update has altered those rules.
