Ra Ra BOOM is a side-scrolling brawler from Gylee Games built around four-player local co-op, fast arcade-style combat, and upgrades earned by fighting robots. It is a good fit for players looking for a colorful game to play with friends, though one release-day review praised its combat while noting occasional hitbox and lane-alignment problems. The available evidence supports a promising co-op premise, not a claim that it is a must-play for every beat-’em-up fan.

What is Ra Ra BOOM?

Developed and published by Gylee Games, Ra Ra BOOM released on Steam on August 12, 2025. It is a side-scrolling, arcade-style brawler in which four high-schoolers from outer space fight robots on Earth. Players can choose Aris, Saida, Ren, or Vee and battle through nine colorful levels. Steam’s listing gives the game’s premise and feature details.

Combat mixes quick strikes, heavier combos, aerial juggles, ranged attacks, and boss fights, according to MP1st’s review, published August 12, 2025. The game also has a progression loop: defeated enemies drop Scrap, which players can spend to improve stats or unlock abilities.

How does the combat and progression hold up?

Combat feel

MP1st praised the responsiveness of the combat, its enemy and boss variety, and the way different attack types keep fights moving. The same review reported occasional hitbox and lane-alignment issues, as well as frustration with some enemy types. The outlet disclosed that it received review code from the publisher, and its assessment reflects one reviewer’s experience rather than a broad consensus.

Upgrades and replay

Scrap gives fights a direct payoff: spend it on stronger stats or new abilities as you progress. The game also offers replayability through its characters and co-op, but player reactions are mixed. Steam Community excerpts include praise for the presentation, music, and playing with friends, alongside criticism of repetitive combat, reused content, and weak reasons to replay. Those comments are individual opinions, not a representative measure of player sentiment. Steam Community reviews

Can you play Ra Ra BOOM in local co-op?

Yes. The Steam description calls Ra Ra BOOM a four-player local co-op brawler and lists shared/split-screen co-op. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets players use that feature remotely. On Xbox, the store specifies local co-op for two to four players. The Xbox listing also identifies solo play as an option.

Who is Ra Ra BOOM for?

  • Consider it if: you want a bright, character-driven brawler to play locally with friends, and the mix of melee attacks, ranged moves, and upgrades appeals to you.
  • Be cautious if: you are particularly sensitive to hitbox or positioning issues, or you need strong evidence that the game offers substantial variety and replay incentives. The available review notes control frustrations, while player comments on replay value differ.
