The listing was not an AMD announcement or a performance test, but it correctly previewed the memory split later confirmed by AMD.
That mattered because the RX 9060 XT was heading into direct competition with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, which also arrived in 8GB and 16GB configurations. The contest would depend not only on GPU speed, but on VRAM capacity, memory bandwidth, ray tracing, software features, and launch pricing.

What the filing revealed
The April 10, 2025 report was based on an RRA regulatory filing listing two Gigabyte Radeon RX 9060 XT Gaming OC cards:
GV-R9060XTGAMING OC-16GDGV-R9060XTGAMING OC-8GD
The “16GD” and “8GD” suffixes strongly suggested 16GB and 8GB memory capacities. The same filing reportedly included several Gigabyte RTX 5060 Ti models, including Eagle, Windforce, Aero, and Aorus variants. Regulatory filings can reveal board-partner products before launch, but they do not establish every final specification, price, or availability detail.
#1 Best Overall
- Chipset: AMD RX 9060 XT
- Memory: 16 GB GDDR6
- XFX SWFT Dual Fan Cooling Solution
- Boost Clock Up to 3320 MHz
In this case, however, the inference proved accurate. AMD later confirmed that the RX 9060 XT would be sold in both capacities.

Why the 8GB and 16GB split mattered
VRAM capacity had become a major concern for mainstream gaming GPUs. Modern games can use substantially more memory at 1440p, with high-resolution textures, ray tracing, or large asset packs. When a workload exceeds a card’s usable VRAM, the result can be texture reductions, stutter, or poor frame-time consistency—not merely a small change in average FPS.
The two RX 9060 XT versions therefore targeted different buyers:

- Next‑Gen AMD RDNA 4 Architecture: Powered by the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU with 32 Compute Units featuring 3rd Gen Ray Tracing and 2nd Gen AI Accelerators, delivering exceptional 1440p gaming and AI‑enhanced performance.
- Blazing‑Fast Engine Clock: Delivers a boost clock of up to 3290 MHz and a game clock of 2700 MHz out of the box, providing the raw power for smooth, high‑framerate gameplay.
- 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.
- 8GB: The lower-cost option for mainstream 1080p gaming, but with less headroom for demanding future titles.
- 16GB: The more sensible long-term choice for buyers targeting 1440p or planning to keep the card for several years.
More VRAM does not automatically make a graphics card faster. If a game fits comfortably within 8GB, the 16GB version will not necessarily deliver higher average frame rates. Its advantage is avoiding capacity-related limits when the workload needs more memory.
The memory-bus question
The filing also drew attention to the RX 9060 XT’s expected 128-bit memory bus. A narrow bus can limit throughput, but bus width alone is not a reliable predictor of gaming performance. Memory speed, cache, compression, GPU architecture, clocks, resolution, and the game engine all affect the result.
The confirmed RX 9060 XT uses GDDR6 memory running at up to 20Gbps, giving it peak theoretical bandwidth of up to 320GB/s. The RTX 5060 Ti also uses a 128-bit bus, but pairs it with faster GDDR7 memory. That gives NVIDIA’s card a substantial theoretical bandwidth advantage.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
That advantage does not guarantee that the RTX 5060 Ti wins every game. Bandwidth is separate from VRAM capacity, and neither specification replaces independent testing.

RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti compared
| Feature | RX 9060 XT | RTX 5060 Ti |
|---|---|---|
| VRAM options | 8GB or 16GB | 8GB or 16GB |
| Memory type | GDDR6 | GDDR7 |
| Memory bus | 128-bit | 128-bit |
| Theoretical bandwidth | Up to 320GB/s | Higher, owing to GDDR7 |
| Upscaling and frame generation | FSR and AMD’s RDNA 4 feature set | DLSS and NVIDIA frame-generation features |
| Software ecosystem | Strong gaming-focused support | CUDA, Studio, NVENC, Reflex, and broader NVIDIA application support |
The fairest comparisons are capacity-to-capacity. An RX 9060 XT 8GB should be compared with an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB when price and software features are the priority. For longer-term 1440p use, the RX 9060 XT 16GB and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB are more relevant alternatives.

What performance claims could—and could not—show
AMD claimed the RX 9060 XT was approximately 6% faster than the RTX 5060 Ti across 40 games without upscaling or frame generation. That figure should be treated as a vendor-selected comparison, not a universal benchmark result. Game selection, resolution, settings, drivers, ray tracing, card capacity, averaging method, and board clocks can all change the outcome.
The 16GB Gigabyte card tested independently by HotHardware was factory overclocked, so its results should not be treated as representative of every RX 9060 XT. The review found competitive performance in its class, improved ray tracing over earlier AMD generations, useful software updates, and good overclocking potential. It also noted higher power use than the RTX 5060 in some comparisons, continued NVIDIA advantages in ray tracing, and some performance inconsistency.

Which card makes more sense?
Choose the RX 9060 XT 16GB when:
- You prioritize conventional rasterized gaming performance and VRAM capacity.
- You are targeting 1440p with high texture settings.
- The card is close to its $349 launch MSRP or otherwise meaningfully cheaper than the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.
- You do not depend on CUDA or NVIDIA-specific creator applications.
Consider the RTX 5060 Ti when:
- Ray tracing or path tracing is central to your games.
- You specifically want DLSS, NVIDIA frame generation, Reflex, NVENC, or NVIDIA Studio.
- Your creative or compute software requires CUDA or has better NVIDIA support.
- The price difference is small enough to justify its software and feature advantages.
Be cautious with either 8GB model when:
- You plan to keep the card for several years.
- You regularly play at 1440p with high-resolution textures.
- You use demanding ray-tracing settings or large visual-modification packs.
That does not make every 8GB card unusable. Many games remain playable with 8GB, especially at 1080p and sensible settings. The issue is reduced capacity headroom, not an automatic performance failure.

The RRA filing correctly pointed toward the RX 9060 XT’s defining product split: 8GB and 16GB models. The 16GB RX 9060 XT ultimately became the more attractive AMD option for buyers who wanted a mainstream card with greater VRAM headroom and a lower launch price than the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.
The RTX 5060 Ti remained compelling for ray tracing, DLSS, GDDR7 bandwidth, CUDA, and NVIDIA’s broader software ecosystem. The 128-bit bus was worth noting, but it was never enough to decide the showdown by itself. Capacity, workload, features, and real street pricing mattered more.
