Verdict: The Radeon RX 9070 XT is an excellent 1440p rasterization GPU and a capable 4K raster card for Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong. Its ray-tracing results are much more conditional: Cyberpunk remains manageable with upscaling, but Black Myth: Wukong can drop to approximately 30 FPS at 1440p RT in published testing.
The short verdict
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is an excellent rasterization card for Cyberpunk 2077 and a capable 1440p/4K card for Black Myth: Wukong when ray tracing is disabled. Its position changes sharply once RT or path tracing becomes the priority. Cyberpunk 2077 remains reasonably manageable with moderate ray tracing and upscaling, while Black Myth: Wukong exposes a much larger Radeon disadvantage in RT-heavy testing.

That makes the RX 9070 XT a strong choice for players who value high conventional-rendering performance and 16GB of VRAM, but a conditional choice for anyone buying primarily for maximum ray-traced or path-traced image quality. It should not be described as a universal GeForce RTX 5070 Ti replacement: the answer depends on the game, resolution, preset, ray-tracing mode, upscaler, and whether frame generation is enabled.

What the RX 9070 XT brings to the test
AMD lists the RX 9070 XT as an RDNA 4 graphics card with 64 compute units, 64 ray-tracing accelerators, and 128 AI accelerators. It has 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit interface, up to a 2,970MHz boost clock, up to 640GB/s of memory bandwidth, and a 304W total board power rating. AMD recommends a 750W power supply.
The 16GB memory capacity is useful at 1440p and 4K, particularly when games use high-resolution textures. However, VRAM capacity is not a promise of high RT performance. The benchmark gap between conventional rendering and ray-traced rendering shows that rendering throughput and game-specific scaling can be the limiting factors even when the card has enough memory.
There is also no single physical RX 9070 XT design. ASRock, Sapphire, XFX, and other board partners can use different coolers, dimensions, factory clocks, power limits, and connector arrangements. Anyone comparing a Radeon RX 9070 XT should check the exact model’s length, thickness, power requirements, and included cables rather than assuming that every version fits or behaves identically.

Rasterized performance
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is a strong showcase for the RX 9070 XT when ray tracing is disabled. TechSpot recorded approximately 125 FPS at 1440p and approximately 65 FPS at 4K in its rasterized test. The 4K result was broadly comparable with the GeForce RTX 4080 in that review, and the RX 9070 XT was ahead of the RX 7900 XT.
In practical terms, 1440p Ultra is an appropriate target for a high-refresh display, provided the processor and the specific scene can keep up. At 4K, the cited result is in the 60-FPS class, although demanding areas, crowd density, patches, background applications, and CPU limitations can move the observed result above or below that level.
Ray tracing and path tracing
The picture becomes less favorable with RT enabled, but the RX 9070 XT is not automatically unusable. TechSpot recorded approximately 68 FPS at 1440p with upscaling, placing the card roughly 8% behind the RTX 5070 Ti in that test. At 4K with upscaling, it remained playable in the review configuration but trailed the RTX 5070 Ti by approximately 12%.
A separate Tom’s Guide result demonstrates why those numbers should not be treated as a universal 4K RT forecast. With Cyberpunk 2077 set to Ultra ray tracing at 4K, the RX 9070 XT averaged approximately 25.7 FPS, compared with 33.7 FPS for the RTX 5070 Ti. That test is not numerically comparable with TechSpot’s 1440p, upscaled result. It does, however, establish the practical warning: native or near-native 4K Ultra RT is demanding even for this class of card.
Path tracing should be treated as an even more demanding enthusiast setting. The available figures support an upscaling-and-settings compromise rather than a claim that the RX 9070 XT can sustain a high-refresh 4K path-traced experience.
Recommended Cyberpunk settings
- 1440p, ray tracing off: Start with Ultra. A carefully tuned Ultra/High mix is sensible if the goal is a steadier high-refresh frame rate.
- 4K, ray tracing off: Ultra is viable in the 60-FPS class according to the cited test. Reduce the most expensive settings modestly if a locked 60 FPS is more important than maximum image quality.
- 1440p, RT enabled: Use an upscaler and a balanced quality setting rather than assuming maximum RT will deliver high-refresh performance in every scene.
- 4K, RT or path tracing enabled: Treat the mode as a visual-quality compromise. Upscaling, reduced RT settings, and—where appropriate—frame generation may be necessary.
Black Myth: Wukong: good raster performance, severe RT compromise
Rasterized Cinematic mode
Tom’s Guide measured approximately 57 FPS at 4K on the RX 9070 XT using the game’s Cinematic preset. That is a reasonably strong result for a demanding title and makes 4K play viable, especially when a variable-refresh display or a small settings adjustment is acceptable. The RTX 5070 Ti reached approximately 73 FPS in the same table, so the Radeon card was capable but not the faster option in that test.
At 1440p in rasterized Cinematic mode, the RX 9070 XT is a sensible target for players who want more headroom than the 4K result provides. Upscaling can be used when the desired frame rate exceeds what demanding scenes deliver at the native resolution.

Ray tracing changes the recommendation
TechSpot’s RT test was substantially less favorable. The RX 9070 XT produced approximately 30 FPS at 1440p—nearly 60% faster than the RX 7900 XTX, but about half the performance of the RTX 5070 Ti. TechSpot characterized Black Myth: Wukong as a particularly difficult RT workload for Radeon GPUs.
Recommended Free Tools
This is why the card should not simply be labeled “good” or “bad” for Wukong. Its rasterized Cinematic performance is viable, including at 4K with suitable expectations. Its RT performance is an enthusiast option that requires significant compromises and should not be the default recommendation for a buyer seeking a smooth, high-refresh experience.
Recommended Black Myth: Wukong settings
- 1440p, rasterized Cinematic: Use this as the primary target. Add upscaling if demanding scenes do not meet the desired refresh rate.
- 4K, rasterized Cinematic: The cited result is around 57 FPS. A locked 60 FPS may require modest reductions in the most expensive settings or the use of upscaling.
- 1440p, RT enabled: Expect a major performance reduction. The approximately 30-FPS result makes RT a visual-priority setting rather than the best default.
FSR 4 and frame generation: useful, but not the same as raw GPU performance
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 added FSR 4 support for compatible AMD GPUs and FSR 3.1 frame-generation support for compatible hardware. The game’s official patch notes state that the FSR 4 option requires a supporting AMD driver before it appears in the settings menu. Availability can therefore depend on both the game build and the installed driver.
These technologies should be reported separately from native-rendered FPS. An upscaler renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output, while frame generation inserts additional displayed frames between conventionally rendered frames. A result such as “68 FPS with upscaling” is not equivalent to 68 native-resolution FPS, and a frame-generated display figure should not be presented as the same thing as the underlying render rate.
For this GPU, upscaling is most useful when the base rendering rate is already reasonable and the player wants more visual quality or smoother presentation. It does not erase the underlying RT disadvantage seen in Black Myth: Wukong, and it should not be used to hide whether a benchmark includes frame generation.
Why the two games tell different stories
The RX 9070 XT’s conventional-rendering performance is strong enough to make both games credible 1440p choices and to make 4K rasterization practical. Ray tracing introduces a different workload, and the performance cost is not consistent from one game engine or RT implementation to another.
Cyberpunk 2077 is comparatively favorable: its raster results are excellent, and moderate RT with upscaling can remain playable. Black Myth: Wukong is less favorable to Radeon RT scaling, with the cited 1440p result falling to approximately 30 FPS and landing around half the RTX 5070 Ti’s performance.
The presence of 64 ray-tracing accelerators and 16GB of VRAM does not make those workloads equivalent. Hardware specifications describe capability and capacity, but published game results reveal how a particular engine actually scales. Buyers should therefore select the RX 9070 XT based on the games and rendering modes they intend to use, not on the VRAM figure alone.
System fit and buying guidance
AMD’s 750W recommendation is the appropriate starting point for a complete system, but the exact board-partner model remains important. Check the card manufacturer’s power recommendation, connector configuration, physical length, slot thickness, and clearance around front radiators or drive cages. The 304W total board power rating also makes case airflow and a sensible fan layout relevant, particularly in a compact case.
Before ordering, compare current board-partner listings for the Radeon RX 9070 XT without assuming that the cheapest version has the same cooler, noise profile, dimensions, or warranty terms as a more expensive design. Prices and availability change frequently, so a current retailer check is necessary before making a price-based recommendation.

For the card’s strongest general-purpose target, a 1440p gaming monitor with adaptive synchronization is a logical match. A high-refresh model makes better use of the card’s raster performance in Cyberpunk 2077, while a 4K variable-refresh display is more appropriate for a player who prioritizes image detail and accepts settings adjustments in demanding scenes. No particular monitor model is implied here; refresh rate, adaptive-sync support, connectivity, and the chosen RX 9070 XT board should be checked together.
When replacing a weak or aging power supply, look for a 750W power supply for RX 9070 XT or higher-capacity unit that meets the exact card’s connector and quality requirements. The wattage label alone is not enough to confirm compatibility with every board-partner design.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy the RX 9070 XT for these games?
- Buy with confidence if: the priority is 1440p Ultra rasterized gaming, strong 4K conventional rendering, 16GB of VRAM, and a willingness to tune RT settings rather than max them out.
- Buy with reservations if: the main games include Cyberpunk 2077 with moderate RT. The experience can be good with upscaling, but 4K Ultra RT is demanding and the result depends heavily on the test configuration.
- Look carefully at alternatives if: Black Myth: Wukong RT, maximum ray tracing, or path tracing is the central reason for the purchase. The published RT result shows a substantial disadvantage against the RTX 5070 Ti.
- Do not overpay for it solely because of: the 16GB memory capacity. That capacity is valuable, but it cannot guarantee high RT frame rates.
How to reproduce or compare these results
Published FPS figures are only meaningful when their conditions are recorded. A useful retest should document:
- The exact game build, including whether Cyberpunk 2077 is running Update 2.3 or the later 2.31 build.
- The AMD graphics driver version and whether the driver supports the FSR 4 option used by the game.
- Resolution, graphics preset, individual RT or path-tracing settings, and texture quality.
- The upscaler and quality mode, such as native rendering, FSR, or another reconstruction mode.
- Whether frame generation is disabled or enabled, and whether the reported number is the base render rate or the displayed frame rate.
- The CPU, system memory, background software, and whether the benchmark uses a built-in sequence or captured gameplay.
The figures in this analysis come from published TechSpot and Tom’s Guide reviews. They are not results from a new hands-on test, so no single number should be treated as a guarantee for every driver, patch, processor, scene, or RX 9070 XT board.
Final assessment
The RX 9070 XT is best understood as a high-performance raster card with conditional ray-tracing performance. In Cyberpunk 2077, it is excellent with RT disabled and still workable with moderate RT plus upscaling. In Black Myth: Wukong, rasterized Cinematic play is viable at 1440p and around the high-50-FPS range at 4K in the cited test, but RT is a clear weakness.
For a 1440p or 4K raster-focused player, the card makes a strong case. For someone who specifically wants the fastest RT or path-traced experience in both games, especially Black Myth: Wukong, the buying decision should be made against competing GPUs using matching test conditions rather than by relying on the RX 9070 XT’s VRAM capacity or raster results alone.

Yes for rasterized gameplay, with realistic expectations. Tom’s Guide measured approximately 57 FPS at 4K on the Cinematic preset. Ray tracing is a different story: TechSpot measured approximately 30 FPS at 1440p, making RT a settings compromise rather than the default recommendation.
Is 16GB of VRAM enough for these games?
The 16GB capacity is useful for high-resolution gaming and textures, but it does not guarantee high ray-tracing performance. The cited RT results indicate that rendering throughput and game-specific scaling, rather than memory capacity alone, are the main concerns.
Should you choose the RX 9070 XT over an RTX 5070 Ti?
It depends on the rendering mode. The RX 9070 XT is a strong rasterization alternative, but the published results do not support calling it a universal replacement for the RTX 5070 Ti. The RTX comparison is more favorable to Nvidia in the tested RT workloads, especially Black Myth: Wukong.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose the Radeon RX 9070 XT for excellent 1440p and capable 4K rasterized gaming. It is a more conditional purchase for ray tracing, and Black Myth: Wukong shows the clearest reason why: its RT performance can fall to roughly 30 FPS at 1440p in published testing.
