In WoW Classic: Season of Discovery, Rainbow Generator is a bind-on-pickup, item-level-60 trinket rewarded by the Blackrock Depths quest Ever After. The level-50 quest requires level 48, and the trinket’s use effect is “Rainbow power!” with a 30-minute cooldown. It is not the similarly named retail toy.
What Rainbow Generator does in Season of Discovery
The Season of Discovery Rainbow Generator is a trinket with item level 60 and a 30-minute cooldown. Its use text is “Rainbow power!” and it binds when picked up. These item details are listed in the Season of Discovery item entry.
How to get Rainbow Generator
Complete Ever After in Blackrock Depths (BRD). Rugged Traveler gives and completes this level-50 quest, which has a level-48 requirement. Rainbow Generator is one of the quest rewards; the other listed rewards include Premo’s Poise-Demanding Uniform, three Student Fodder, experience, currency, and faction reputation. See the Ever After quest entry.
A 2025 hotfix recorded on the quest page allowed Ever After to be completed by groups larger than two. Earlier player advice about needing a smaller group may therefore be out of date.

Race availability and historical quest issues
Blizzard’s Season of Discovery hotfix post dated April 16, 2024 states: “Rainbow Generator should now appear for troll, tauren, night elf, and all other races.” This is the official race-availability statement in Blizzard’s Season of Discovery hotfixes post.
In April 2024, players reported that the relevant NPC disappeared during some BRD attempts and discussed the Wanted Notice and group workarounds. These are historical player reports, not reliable current instructions; quest behavior can change with patches. See the quest entry for its recorded update.

If the quest reward is missing
One player reported completing Ever After without seeing Rainbow Generator, and a reply suggested checking the keys tab. Treat that as an anecdotal troubleshooting suggestion, not an official guarantee that the item is stored there. The report and reply are in this player discussion.

Retail World of Warcraft has a separate item with the same name: a toy associated with the Open Their Eyes quest. The Season of Discovery version is the BRD trinket awarded by Ever After. Check the game version and the item type before following an acquisition guide. The retail item is listed in its retail item entry.
